Mexico is "Enraged" with the proposed U.S wall.

I see you are very compassionate to those who break the law and that is fine.

But it increases the population--and resources have to be utilized for them.

I just don't understand how it is okay for someone to break the law just b/c they can when other nationalities who wish to come here for a better life or just pure desire to live here---must be able to provide for themselves.

To say they aren't taking away from our present resources via their illegal status is a false statement. I'm sure if you do one of those silly little math problems that breaks down how many government hours via federal, state, and local government that are spent on illegal immigrants--the number is very costly and the resources pretty significant.

I was just in a Las Cruces Alberston's and Wal-mart this week. One fruit came from Florida and the other came from Mexico. So where exactly is the $5 an hour illegal immigrant field laborer fruit coming from? Specifically IIRC--the berries came from the country of MEXICO as did the pineapples that were on display.

Well, when they show up on the steps of a hospital, half-dead, our bleeding heart doctors take care of them. Awful, isn't it?

No it isn't awful. But the cost is still passed along and those who can afford to pay--must absorb that cost.

no, but they are not expected to pay it off. people come here just so they can get free medical care.

Got news for ya, there are a LOT of Americans that don't pay their medical bills either. You really think the alien non-payers contribute more to the cost of health care than huge malpractice suits, insurance premiums and plain old fashioned "greed" from our drug companies?

For instance. Elidel Cream...made in Germany, marketed by Novartis. In America without insurance $70 per ounce, in Mexico $30 an ounce...sane brand, same manufacturing facility, roughly same amount in freight from Europe to both the US and Mexico.

Maybe medical costs are so high here partly, and simply, because they CAN be, because Americans WILL pay it.

WWJD?

I doubt many Americans would pick strawberries, milk cows or do other farm related work in the Texas summer temperatures, even at $10.

BTW, if you think you can hand pick 25 Quarts of strawberries in an hour, you've never picked strawberries. That's 50 pounds, on your knees or bent over in the heat.

BTW, Why do you think $5 (OK $5.15) isn't a legal wage? It may not be where you live, but it is minimum wage under Federal law, and is the minimum wage here in TX.

Other states would solve their farm problems much like Ct. does. We have migrant farm workers that come primarily from Jamaica to work on tobacco and when that crop is harvested they move on to apples and then go home.

Not doing a job b/c it is "beneath you" (as how I read someone's description of those who collect unemployment rather than do undesirable work)--just isn't a good enough reason to justify breaking the law.

Please place the blame for this - where it belongs. With our unemployed, that collect, and our government, that pays out the claims, under those conditions.

We do import food from Mexico. But the US also uses "illegal" Mexican laborers to harvest much of the food produced here. Especially in California and Texas. The deserts of New Mexico aren;t exactly a rich productin region for fruits and vegatables, butit is a milk producing area, especially El Paso, TX and Anthony, NM, which is 20 miles from Las Cruces.

Again, to qualify for medicaid, you MUST be documented so they can verify income. Other than that, the only free medical care illegal immigrants receive is emergency treatment. I would hope no one would be denied life saving treatment, would you?

This isn't true. My friend had to apply for Medicaid and, on the form, it clearly states that you do NOT have to be a documented citizen to qualify. Maybe that's just MA, but it's wrong - whether it's one state or all of them.

We have to educate their children, which takes resources away from our own children. They can and do get food stamps and Section 8 housing and free health care. That takes resources away from our citizens who need those benefits and raises insurance rates to the point where a lot of people are being priced out of health insurance.

As for "emergency treatment" - have you ever sat in a waiting room at an emergency room at a hospital? See how many people are there with no papers and unable to speak English for things like colds and muscles sprains.

I've never experienced the system in other states, but I did a lot of public interest work in MA and you'd be surprised at how well the illegal immigrants there are treated - instead of being deported, they are given public housing, food stamps and free care or Medicaid. The hospitals are flooded with them getting cold medications and ace bandages.

Meanwhile, as a citizen, I needed help paying my COBRA when DH was laid off. The state told me to rot, pretty much. Perhaps if I renounced my citizenship and walked over the border, they would have been more forthcoming with the help.

Someone used this as justification for why we should allow illegal immigrants to come here and do the menial labor b/c our own workforce won't do it.

I simply said that allowing an illlegal act b/c there are those who are above this type of work--is silly.

No need to place blame--I wasn't doing that at all.

I'm not from here--just noticed that there was very little produce from CA and TX at the time I was shopping. :confused3

Think about that one ;)

I have and I doubt he would be complaining about taxes, especially if he was not even paying any. ;)

The US has no official language, and if you think all immigrants should speak only the language of the country they immigrate into, perhaps we should all be speaking Native American dialects. Hmmm...then again, Spanish WAS spoken by many folks along the border BEFORE English ever was. No one is "forcing" you to speak Spanish, are they?

In our area 55% of the people are of Hispanic/Mexican decent. I only hope they'll treat the new "minority" better than they were treated.
Look, let's not get into the language thing for the millionth time. The common language in this country, the language that we use, speak, do business in etc. is English. I don't give a flip if it's never been made the "official" language...it is the coommon language. If you go to any other country in the world, there are going to be people that speak other languages. I've been to Spain...there are people there that speak Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Franch. Does that mean everything has to be in all those languages??? No. The common language is Spanish, that's what they do business in, that's what the people who choose to live there learn to function in that society. If I moved to Spain, I would learn Spanish. I would not expect all the people, signage, official documents etc. to be in English for me.

If you come here from another country, learn English. I don't care what langauge you speak at home. I don't care if you know 12 other languages. One of the 12 better be English so you can function in the United States when necessary. I shouldn't have to learn Spanish, Italian, Swahili, Kurdish or any other language to talk to you. If you need or want something bad enough, learn to ask for it in English. You want to live in your little pockets of ethnicity, that's fine. But know the damn common language of the country.

As far as Mexico being ticked...why do we care? Our country, our land. If we want to build a 25000 mile long, 75 foot high wall, why do we care what Mexico thinks?

And yes, if I needed money that badly, I would work for $5/hour. And have.

ROFL......

Yes, I'm sure Jesus would be laughing at the idea of taking care of poor people too.
