Mexican Riviera 2/27 - 3/6 - DisneyZell TR new 3/31: FINISHED!!!

they just weren't "on". the server was constantly looking everywhere else around the dining room, not sure why? the asst server was good but in a "just trying to get the job done" way. they didn't seem to work well together. but with all of that we still had a great time and didn't let them bring us down!!!
we cruised on the magic last year, our first cruise, and didn't have anything to compare it to. the servers were excellent! so i guess we were a little spoiled from that!

a side note...just watched some of our video from the trip... your family is on it! :)

I always like to be a part of other people's videos. That way I live on in infamy...even when those people didn't realize it! :)

the unfortunate part of having really, really good servers on one cruise..is that it ruins you forever. Even good servers end up paling by comparison...and that kind of stinks!

:)

DW here again...not to be nit picky or anything, but our upgrade was $1680, not $1700...that's a few drink of the days for those who are pinching their pennies.

Loved your trip report and I have a question for you... How did you find out the amount for your upgrade at the port prior to getting there? I am considering doing this but I have no idea what kind of cost we would be looking at. Our upgrade would be lower than yours; inside stateroom to verandah or inside stateroom to porthole room. I would be grateful for any help you can give me on this. Thanks!!:goodvibes

Through TR's and general discussion on the board. There isn't any way to specifically find out how much it is except through others telling you what they paid. The $1680 we didn't find out for sure until we were at the port...though DW had heard that it was around $1700. :)

Good luck :)

Dear DisneyZell family,
I haven't been on the DIS boards in a LONG time but was getting a little DIS-sick having not been on DCL for a while and thought I'd get myself all jealous and read some trip reports. I recognized your name & family right away from previous reports - always enjoyed the humor and truth and tips!! Anyway, thanks for taking the time to share your trip!

Thanks for posting this great TR! I love the dolphin pics - that is my dream - I will swim with dolphins some day soon!:goodvibes

I'm impressed you enjoyed your last day right up to the last minute! We are always so sad to leave we don't enjoy our last morning. I like Deanna's idea of a reading retreat! :thumbsup2

So I know you hate me, but your TR has helped me to get excited and get ideas for our Wonder cruise in 20 DAYS!!!

Oh, sorry to be too excited :rotfl2:

Thanks for checking back in! your name rings a bell as well, but not sure why. Hope you can get out on the seven seas again soon! :thumbsup2

Hate is a strong word. Despise comes to mind... :lmao:

Ah...if only I could be kicking back by the goofy pool eating some nice twice baked crispy pizza. Ahhhhhh...But we are only a few months away from our Dream adventure, look for the Pre-Trip Report on that one soon! :) Thanks for stopping by and have a Wonderful trip!

Thank you! I'm not sure how much lounging by the pool eating pizza we will do - this will be quite a chilly cruise, actually. I'm hoping they are anticipating that and have blankets out to wrap up in while you watch for whales! I will be looking for your Dream TR!:3dglasses

The adult side has blankets...so here is what you do. Go have them put your pizza back in the oven, go get your blankets, return and get your pizza and plop down on a chair snuggled in your blanket. There, problem solved! :thumbsup2

Well for the many who followed along, and might be curious, DZ did a wonderful job on our door.....the first day.

k.jpg

Don't really know what happened after that, but it seems he apparently got lost and never returned to change the door decorations daily. In my daily search for DZ, I did discover this:

k1.jpg

and my thinking was that he saw me coming and ran and hid because they were quite crispy!

Having never done door decorations before, I was surprised that people would constantly remove them and throw them elsewhere on the door, usually upside down. We ended up moving them as high as possible, but in the end, took them down since a few also disappeared (which was hardly in typical Disney spirit). :sad2: We did, one day, have two extra ones that were left by Iwanna..., which was a nice surprise! We had a great time, met some great people from the DisBoard, including our dinner mates, who we are now going on a cruise with on 03/22/12 on the Dream! I guess the new countdown begins!

Thank you again, DZ, for such a comprehensive TR. Everything was just as you indicated! I'm glad, though, I choose not to read the Navigators ahead of time. ;)

AH!!! that's great. I did do a wonderful job of decorating. Sorry, I was tired after that first night...do you have any idea how uncomfortable it is to sleep inside a trunk??? My view off the back of Deck 7 was fabulous. And no one bothered me about standing there in my undies. So that worked for me! :thumbsup2

That stinks about the magnets. We didn't have that issue...but know that quite a few people do. Not sure if we were in a good location or something?:confused3

Gotta be kids would be my guess.

As you know, I really enjoyed having you comment on my TR...and my pre-trippie will be coming up soon...and in July we are going on the Dream...so once again I can help you out...just don't read the navigators. :)

and as far as the pizza...that was wrong to rub that in. :rotfl:

There should be no excuses about the trunk, we got the largest one and put in the silk down pillow, sheets and blankets. I mean, after all, we only tipped you over twice on the way onto the ship. Oh ya, and sorry about that ramming from the gangway onto the actual ship, but we were just so excited that they were calling our name because apparently they thought we were famous, that the trunk was really a mere after thought. :rotfl:

We were midship down the hall quite a bit from the elevator, so I guess as people were walking the hall....who knows, people are unpredictable. I did notice there were other doors which had a lot of magnets and by the second or third day, they had pulled most of theirs in (I presumed) or else they were taken. I guess they, too, got tired of redoing. It bummed me out that people would be like that, but that's life. :confused3

Can't wait to see what you will be doing with your "pre-trippie" and your TR once you return. What room are you in on the Dream? BTW, we seriously considered doing the same cruise you are on, just for laughs, but because we met such great table mates, and it will be hubby's birthday on the 22nd, we decided to do the short Bahamian cruise with our new friends.

Finally, that wasn't your pizza? Ut oh......guess hubby ate someone else's! :rolleyes1

At 4:45 we had one of the benefits of being in a concierge room. We had a Concierge reception from 4:45 - 5:45 on the deck of BBBB (do you remember what that stands for???). This was a pretty cool event, they had some appetizers: Shrimp, coconut shrimp, and several other things. They also had chocolate dipped Mickey Mouse shaped rice crispy treats. Then they also had a selection of drinks you could choose from. While I don't remember their names...they also had Malibu Rum and Pineapple juice which DW loves (and loved several times at the reception to the point that in the future there will be no more froo-froo drinks...only Malibu Rum coming with us for her). DS8 named the drink the "Crazy Porcupine" which actually made one of the servers smile. The other one was grumpy. Not sure what was up with that.

In the background here you see Thomas, our Concierge. Needless to say we didn't need a big group picture with him.

I just jumped on your TR yesterday and have been reading like a crazy woman, but something caught my eye-

:scared1: I know Thomas! I knew him ages ago, had no idea he was on the ship now. I'll hold my tongue about my opinion (probably similar to yours), but what a small, small world

Don't worry, the bumps on my head have healed...and I've since learned that you didn't give me silk, you gave me SATIN. Like I wouldn't figure that out! Sheesh! no wonder I didn't put any magnets on your door after day 1. Wheesh!

DW will have to answer abour room on the Dream...She is definately the organizer of the two of us. Soundsl ike your trip next year will be fun...Birthday cruises are cool...but DW tells me the no longer bring out a free cake like they used to...Disney is slipping! :)

Ha! no need to hold your tongue. Honestly I'm sure he would have been fine if we needed him...my problem is that I pretty much fend for myself....so that makes me not like to pay for anything. :rolleyes1

Hope you enjoy the rest of the TR...and look for the pre-trip coming up! I got the last peice of information that I need...you poor, poor people will be subjected to more of me!

DZ

Oh, they definitely do the free cake. We got one for our anniversary on this cruise (and it was even the day after since we were in Palo on our actual anniversary). Also, the last day of the cruise, our table mate received one for her birthday. :)

I swear, they were silk! For what I paid, they better not have messed up the order!

Sorry about the bumps. Like I said, we got so excited when they thought we were famous when we boarded, we didn't treat the trunk properly. :guilty:

Great trip report!!

I was semi-excited to do our cruise, but now I am WAY excited.

Reading Cruise Confidential, good book. :thumbsup2

supposed to be flying Continental (our now-not-so-favorite-airline-for-a-couple-of-reasons), Through Newark.
--Disneyzell

I didn't get thru the 1st post and have to comment. First of off all.... :rotfl2::rotfl2: I can't wait to read the rest cause you are just too funny. But, I hope I NEVER have to do continental or Newark if life or death depended on it. LOL!

But, I digress, and now back to reading your TR... Can't wait to read more! :thumbsup2

Ha! apparently now I feel the same way! Actually, to be honest, prior to United and Continental merging I actually felt that Continental was a step above United (it used to be the other way around). But when the merger happened both airlines dropped tremendously. Frankly I think they have all the employees who have been around for 20 years and just don't give a darn anymore. Sad!

Enjoy the reading. I was surprised to see this TR pop back to the top! hope you like it!
