Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

We are atching Ike out of the corner of our eyes. We are washing clothes but not putting them away. I am going to live out of my "hurricane box" for another week and restock it as we used most of the perishables.

Glad you are home safe.

Lori

I'm glad to hear you all got through Gustav okay. A friend of mine in Baton Rouge is still waiting for power...she's expecting to wait 3 weeks now. I cannot imagine what that is like to live through.

Anyways, I'm going to start praying for Ike (and Hanna...she's coming to visit me this afternoon). I don't want you all to have to deal with another hurricane so soon after this last one. You've been through enough already.

Good morning everyone!

I'm so happy that we all fared well for Gustav. We were in Jackson and left yesterday morning. The trip up took 9 hours. The trip home took 2 hrs 45 min! What a difference!

I certainly hope we don't have to leave again for Ike. We've got a WDW vacation planned for Thanksgiving week and living expenses while being evacuated are so costly, that I don't want to start dipping into our WDW savings.

One of the most stressful parts of this whole thing happened early last Sun morning when we were about to pull out. We had the oil changed, tires checked, fluid levels checked, etc. on our van on Saturday morning. But at 2:30 am just as we were prepared to pull out the driveway, the van just wouldn't start. I thought my husband would flip out. So we switched to plan B and were able to transfer most everything to my Toyota. And my mom was able to fit my three containers of pictures and photo albums into her vehicle.

Anyway, I'm SO happy to be back on the disboards! Now I can start dreaming of Disney again! :woohoo:

Good luck with Hannah. I've got a friend on another thread who lives in Virginia and is welcoming the rain. I hope it's not too bad for you. Thanks for the well wishes.

Heading home today, still no power.:sad2:

Drive safely and hopefully by the time you get home the power will be back on.

Christie I hope your van was just being stubborn.

Hey Kathy... hope you make it home safely !

We are busy around here, getting ready for a possible visit from Ike and packing for WDW!

hey we are going to be at Pop the same week! (not sure if we figured this out before). PM me and maybe we can meet while there!

ok the new 5 day forecast has us RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the cone of error for Ike....I am anxious already:sick:

My brother fared well and his electricity, which was said to take up to 3 weeks for power, came back on today!!
Since he is working his tail off 24/7, it seems, his wife and 2DD's came to her moms, right ariound the corner from us.

Lori

Lori - In case DB hasn't been able to relay or receive the message, let your SIL know the BR Diocesan principals are meeting this Monday afternoon to decide on back to school. It's looking like Wednesday. I've heard Ascension Parish may try to start up on Tuesday, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Just checking in on everyone... hope all are okay.
Looks like we are watching another big one...many prayers coming your way

Afternoon everyone...2 of my aunts from St. James is here doing laundry since they still do not have power. My dryer and washer have been on overload!.

Thanks Lauren!:woohoo:

Thanks for the update Lauren. I am happy to hear she has electricity!

I am concerned for you Kathy-you have seemed really serious and not yourself lately. I know you have a lot going on in life, so I will keep you in my prayers. You have always been really supportive and I appreciate it.

Glad everyone else is getting home safely.

Not even looking at Ike until Monday. I need a weekend not related to hurricanes. I worked today and it was like a Monday. Many many people coming in with chest pain that is not heart related-hmmmmmm... anxiety maybe????

I must say that being able to go to WDW was such a blessing and kept our spirits up and worries low. Of course, we could not afford to do that again, within a week. Although all that was unexpected out of pocket was paying for a 1 day ticket for each kid(which was high of course, but worth it). We'd have paid for hotel no matter where we were and the day we spent at Typhoon Lagoon was Disney rewards points.

Like my MIL said before we evacuated and due to her having lost everything from Katrina,"all this stuff is just material, wood, and plastic-it doesn't mean anything and I am not attached to it". It put things into perspective for us and we just made sure the stuff we cherish was a safe as possible (within our power) and got ourselves out.

I am thankful for whoever posted about bagging up the stuff in the freezer and fridge-how HANDY and wonderful THAT was. I have told everyone about it b/c it saved so much headache and stink!! Whatever doesn't come with me, will get bagged from now on. I LOVED that idea. It was great!
