Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

I'm on the evacuation team but I work in the Hammond FOC building, so we're not sure if we're evacuating yet. The reason for that office was due to storms but if our office has to close for a day or two we'll have to go to Arkansas. I'm none too thrilled about Little Rock! :scared:

Right, the HRSC is also moving. I work downtown so you know we are out of here. I packed up my desk today!

Wm on Barataria is out of most types of flashlight, and those individual tuna snack things...I went before work.

I met Kristina and Grayce! Grayce wants to take my class!

If I lived closer I would take your class!!

Lori

ok so this is the thing. If I am going to drive 8 hours to dallas or Tennessee I might as well just suck it in and go to Orlando, darnit!

oh yeah, that's a definite!

Where are you evacuating to?

My group is not being sent to a certain place. I am personally either going to Dallas or Arkansas.

I am right there with you girl! :rotfl: I do not feel like being in a car that long either.

I told Dh the same thing! I do however want to see some family in Atlanta, and then Durham(sp?)...

You all know from my posts that i feel the same way. I want to head to Orlando and have fun. I mean, if we HAVE to pay for a hotel room.....;)

We may just be heading to BR to hang out with DB and SIL, but b/c I am getting killed by this cold, I am not sure about being around the baby and thier 4 year old. I could just stay upstairs away from everyone. I think if we go to Dallas, we will get the broken up storms leftover from this hurricane. If we go to Orlando, it is looking like clear skies and that Hanna has other ideas!!

DH not budging right now, except for staying at DB's(cause it is free and we have a generator to bring). I feel bad going to his home since the whole Katrina thing- a nightmare not only due to the damage it costed people. His wife didn't handle it very well-but who could blame her-18 people(1 very sick), 4 dogs, 2 talking birds, 2-3 cats and a turtle. Mostly her issue was with her family, but I know she avoided too much contact with everyone, incl. me and DH.

Cold has me up again...

Good morning.

Jenny I did the toe thing yesterday too.

I'm still so confused as to what's going on with Gustav. It keeps getting pushed back. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad at that fact. I think I just want it to be done with.

Good morning, Now the computer models have it wither going west or right over Slidell, LOL! I am so confused!

Also hubby keeps walking around saying "we're gonna flood again". Um, STOP THAT!! I still havent gotten things back like I want them after K and now he's saying we're gonna flood again?? And the crazy part is that he doesn't see WHY that makes me so upset when he says that!:scared: MEN!!

Then I say that I'm not sure how much more of this I can take and maybe we should look at the possibility of moving and he says "well I'm not quitting my job!" Okay, he's a PE teacher and coach, its not like he's the President or something. Um, I think they have teachers everywhere the last time I checked..........I felt like telling him "FINE! Dont quit! Stay here and continue to put the house back together and replace all your belongings every few years and DD and I will be somewhere north of here. When you feel the need to evacuate, you can come stay with us but is gonna be hard to have joint custody of her when we are 400 miles away.":headache:

He gives me a headache. I think the storm or possibility of one has us all a little testy now.

Hoping everyone has a nice day and has a plan, just in case.......

Allyson

Allyson what area of the city do you live in? I think all of us are a little "testy" right now. I know I keep snapping at my husband and kids (which I really don't do very often). I think it's just my nerves getting to me and I can't stop it. :confused3

Good morning. How is everyone holding up this morning?

I am very snappy and nervous too right now. DH keeps telling me not to look at the TV weather reports so much, that we won't know anything 'til later on tonight.

Last night, I fell asleep watching the news. I heard noise upstairs and started fussing at the kids that they should be sleeping and yelling that my son should especially be sleeping and had better not be on the Xbox. I was in a daze because I haven't had a good night's sleep since all this Gustav thing. DH says "Mary, who are you talking to?" and I said "You, son, and don't talk back to me". DS was sound asleep. DH and David(DS) sound so much alike, in my daze I was yelling at DH. My daughter was cracking up and said "Nice, mom".

I live on the Northshore, in Slidell. We got about 10 inches of water with K. Certainly not as much as others so we were lucky in that regard but just enough to have to replace carpet, furniture and walls.

Good morning!

Okay, is anyone else confused by the latest models vs. what they are saying on the news regarding mandatory evacuations tomorrow? The latest tracks brings the storm more west, but I'm hearing about Orleans mandatory evacuations tomorrow. Are they trying to completely freak me out? I mean, are they using this a test? I don't want to be a guinea pig and be completely panicked in the process. :confused3

They are evacuating New Orleans because there's more of a chance this storm will be on the BAD SIDE of us (ie. the west) so that's going to cause some very harsh conditions!
I would make preparations to leave if I were you...good luck!

Hey, everyone! Doing OK this morning?

I keep eating malted milk balls and chocolate chip cookies. Add me to the "nervous eaters" club.
Yep, the most important part of the Hurricane box....CHOCOLATE! Well, that and an adult beverage or two! ;)

One positive thing about this whole mess is Gov. Jindal. I am so impressed with him. He's having a press conference at 4:45.
That goes double for me. Of course, with Blanco's Big K debacle, Jindal has no choice but to be pro-active. Even if it's ultimately gross over-reaction, it'll be a case of better safe than sorry.

Are y'all going to Prive'? Let me know how it goes. They've been getting some really positive press, but the prices are kind of scary.

Things are getting crazy here gang. Not a drop of bottled water left in Sam's yesterday after lunchtime (no surprise), and the milk was wiped out too. I've actually heard of couple of different reports that a few gas stations were out of gas (I presume they're bumping up their deliveries), and I've noticed the prices have gone up 11 cents a gallon overnight. I'm hearing some grousing about "chicken little syndrome", but honestly, it just tells me that people are heeding the warnings to get prepared.

Again, I don't want to wish this storm on anyone, but I just hope & pray that this is just a big dress rehearsal.

Ill check in later ladies,
Hugs to all of you!

Chocolate calms me down so much. I have two frosted chocolate fudge pop tarts in the toaster right now.
