Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Morning ladies.

Mrs. Kraemer - you go girl...Keep up the good work with the workout.

StrwLdy - Welcome

Good morning everyone.

Strwlady, nice to meet you:flower3: I didn't know almond cake was a NO thing. Wow,now I know I'm spoiled.

Stephanie, you do beautiful work.

Sheryl, I hope Alexis is still feeling better.

Kyle was honored by the West Bank Quarterback Club last night as one of the areas athletes of the month. It was very nice but long......there were two guest speakers and about 10 kids who were being honored for various sports as the athletes of the months for Feb, March & April.

Of course Kyle had me in tears during his acceptance speech. He thanked his coaches, teammates, his Dad & God, then he stopped and paused. He kinda teared up and looked directly at me and said "I thank my Mom the most. If you look up the word dedicated in the dictionary you would see my Mom. She has dedicated the past 17 years of her life exclusively to me and I love you so much Mom".....I LOST IT......:sad1:

Kathy, Kyle sounds like a sweetheart. I teared :sad1: up reading your post. Congratulations to Kyle and his wonderful mom. And of course, his dad too.

Hi everyone,

I have posted here a few times before but read it often. I was born and raised in NO (Algiers) but now live in Dallas. All of our family is still in NO. I read here to get a bit of my NO fix every now and then

We were in NO in March. Of course I flew back with some very important items...Bunny Bread, Blue Plate Mayo, Hubigs Pies and Elmers Easter Eggs! LOL I had it all packed safe and secure in a box and when the attendant at the air port asked me what was in the box I thought she was gonna pass out laughing. I even brought back bunny bread for my nephew who moved up here after Katrina. I haven't had a chance to see him yet so the bread is in the freezer. He better come by soon or my 10 year old son will be breaking in to the bread! He loves Bunny too.

I hope all of you are ok and hanging in there from Katrina. We drove down West End Blvd when we were there in March and it made me heart sick to see so many homes still boarded up or being worked on.

My prayers for yet another quite Hurricane Season this year.

Take care all and I'll be reading and saying hi here and there

Hugs
Jamie

HI Jamie!!!!
Stick around and post.
Holy Moly what would i do without Almond flavored cake LOL!
Im off for another busy day, helping another friend who is getting a divorce move today.
Im telling you people, if you come to the Denham Springs area dont drink the water if you like your spouse ; )
Oh and crap... tball practice tonight too.. i think ill bring a flask and self medicate while its going on, that should keep me sane!

Hey y'all!

I've had horrible sinus problems the past couple of days and I am sooo ready for this weather to get back to normal! No more cold fronts- it's killing me!

mckryan- sorry I can't help, I don't have any plans to be in the French Quarter in the near future, but if I do end up that way and get any info, I'll send you a pm.

Stephanie- Beautiful cake! Good going on the walking- if you ever want a change of pace from walking on the West Bank, let me know and we could do a walk in City Park and have the kids play on the playground and feed the ducks. They are replacing all of the walkways in City Park right now but it should be done in a couple of weeks.

Terry- I LOVE your new avatar! DH and I love Jiminy Cricket but have never seen him in the parks. If we did we'd probably scare the poor guy with our excitement, knocking children out of the way while running over to him. :rotfl:

Lori- Sorry about the computer problems, I totally understand. My laptop died after only 2 1/2 years and I had no choice but to buy another computer and was totally unprepared for that expense. All of my pictures were on the laptop and thankfully we managed to get them all off there before it completely died.

Jenny- Your post made me laugh about the tball- it reminded me of my friend's description of watching a three year old girl's dancing class: not much dancing going on, mostly like herding cats.

Kathy- Your post made me teary eyed too! You should be so, so proud of him! He sounds like a wonderful young man! :goodvibes

Strwlady- I had no idea that almond cake was a NOLA thing either! That's what we had for DD's 2nd birthday- almond cake with pineapple filling from Haydel's. Still walking off that cake. ;) And post with us more often!

I think all Moms are alike, we're all saps. There was a Mom sitting across from me last night who I didn't know and she told me "I should have never looked at you because I started crying"....:rotfl:

Thanks so much, I would really appreciate it!

Coming from GA, I can tell you that we loved the cold front that came through over the weekend! I wasn't ready for hot and humid just yet. I'm sorry it's messing with your sinuses, though.

Let me just say, again, what a great time our group had in the city! We stayed at the Windsor Court with a Bare Escentuals Girls' Getaway Weekend. We ate lots of great places - never had a bad meal. It was a little crowded with the FQ Festival, but it was fun. I came home with great souviners, like my fleur-de-lis car magnet, 2 pairs of FDL earrings, and a few extra pounds! LOL It was my very first visit to LA and NO, and I don't think it will be my last!

I'm so glad you had a great time! French Quarter Fest is great because it's FREE!:woohoo: (except for the food, which is what really counts  ) Jazz Fest starts next week (but sadly is not free) and is lots of fun too. Come back and visit!

wow.. thats awesome Terry.. ive been very lazy the last cpl of weeks with gym stuff, I need to get back to it.

Sheryl.. hope Alexis is all cleared up!

Jack started tball this week... HOLY CRAP i have never seen anything like it.
Playing in the dirt, staring at the sky, pickin their noses, spinning circles.. how the heck do these kids get through a freaking game. I swear i had to come home after the practice and have a glass of wine. It about drove me slap crazy. I KNOW I KNOW they are all just five, but gosh it was frustrating.
OH WELL, maybe this will be the start of something great and he will grow to be a great ball player just like Kyle LOL!

Jenny, I can still see it like it was yesterday... My DD standing in the outfield with her glove on her face & her friend practicing her dance moves as the ball flew over thier heads!:lmao:

After a few games I asked her if she wanted to quit ball. She said "Yeah, it's boring, but can we still go to the park for the after-game snacks?"

Welcome Jamie! I guess the airport attendants are used to seeing red beans & such, but you surprised them with the Hubigs & Bunny Bread!

And I also had no idea that almond cake is a LA thing!

Jenny, What's is up with your friends? There really must be something in the water over there! Well just one more reason to fill that flask with an adult beverage! Stay away from the water!

Lorie, Sorry to hear you've been sick!

mckryan, Glad you had a great time in our fair city! Come back soon!

LORIE.. feel better soon!

Thanks for the get better wishes....I have had a sinus headache since Monday and I'm about to go crazy! I feel bad for Sienna because Mommy has been high on Sudafed since then and not much of a playmate...:hippie:  At least she is getting her Disney education with all of the movies I have been popping into the DVD player for her. :rotfl:

Lorie, Hope you start feeling better soon! Just remember you're a good Mom, you can't be Super-Mom all the time!

Stephanie, I meant to tell you this morning, that you're cake is beautiful!!!

Lori - I hope you feel better soon too. Ms Sienna probably realizes you aren't yourself anyway. They have a way of knowing.:)

Thanks for the replies. I'll try not to be so quite any more! LOL being quite has never really been a problem for me!

With seeing the different areas everyone is from I'm wondering if its possible I might know some of you! :) Especially those of you in Terry Town. So I was wondering where did y'all go to high school and when did you graduate.

I went to Blenk and graduated in 1981.  Yea I'm old. :rotfl:

As for the Almond flavored cake. This is what I always knew of for a Wedding cake. The first wedding I went to after moving to Dallas, the cake was some strange nutty thing and there was one wedding that it was chocolate cake! WHAT? Who are these strange people. Oh and yea I went to 2 weddings here that the reception was cake and punch!!! Ummm where are the finger sandwiches, the little meatballs, the muffaletas and so on :) But back to the cake thing...every time we come in town we buy a cake from Creative Cakes in Harvey! :)

It was a bit of culture shock when we moved here. I mean I have to drive 15 minutes to my parish church!!!!! LOL it was so strange not seeing a Catholic church on every street corner and gasp you mean every Catholic church doesn't have an elementary school???? Oh and tuition!! My church started a school 6 years ago. Tuition is $5500 a year. :scared1: LOL everytime I think about paying it I pull out my sons testing scores and remind myself it's worth it. Oh and the Catholic high school that he would go to is only $12000 a year!!!! Ummm hes in 4th grade now. I wonder if I start selling blood now if I can afford one years tuition by time he graduates from 8th grade hehe.

See I told y'all being quiet isn't much of and issue with me. Y'all gonna be sorry LOL

Hugs
Jamie

I thank my Mom the most. If you look up the word dedicated in the dictionary you would see my Mom. She has dedicated the past 17 years of her life exclusively to me and I love you so much Mom".....I LOST IT......:sad1:

Oh my goodness I got chills reading this :) How sweet!

Is that a picture of Kyle in your signature? If so I'm guessing thats a Shaw uniform. My brother-in-law pitched for Shaw back in the 80's and then went on to UNO. He did a few years in the minor leagues but once they had a child felt the constant moving around was just too much.

Hugs
Jamie
