Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

This is the most cheerful post I have seen you write up at 5:30 on a workday morning! :surfweb: It should all be downhill from here... and just think, this time next year you will be well into summer vacation!

You were doing good Sheryl.. the air just can't keep up here either! I am about to buy more drapes! It was 90 in the house the last two days... (we turn the a/c off around 3:30 as the air is no longer able to keep up and the temp keeps rising anyhow... for the sake of my electric bill) Last summer was so much cooler, I was spoiled.

I have not been sleeping well... I think I am just too darn hot during the day to do much (including sleep) and then my nonproductivity torments me at night. When I do slep, I have the strangest dreams... the other night I had a dream that I went to help Bethany change her licence over and they switched us. So they would call me Ms. Piglet and her Ms. Burger and we kept telling them no it wasn't right. Evidently we were causing a disturbance so they got the police to bring us home, only they wouldn't let me come to my house, Bethany had to live with my family and I had to live with her DH and all were miserable (well, except Spencer cause he loves her so he didn't mind having a new mom so much) ugggh... it was the kind of dream that when you wake up.. you feel you really haven't slept cause you have been stressed. :3dglasses

I was cheerful until I got to work and wanted to go back home! :lmao: What a day! But it's one more day down and now we only have 1.5 kid days left + that afternoon on Friday. I need to update the attendance that afternoon and load up the rental car I'll have on Friday and Saturday.

There's a staff End of Year party on Friday night. I don't want to go and have never gone to the staff parties but people keep telling me I have to go since I'm leaving...so I guess I'll just go. At least everyone should be in a good mood since summer will have started by then!

You've all got me a weebit nervous about the heat you're dealing with. :scared: I'm sorry it's so hot even inside your house. I'd put a hug here but I doubt you want one in the heat... so ummm....:flower3: here's a flower instead...look at it quick before it wilts.

We are finally warming up. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 88 and Friday 92. The humidity is not leaving though; it's still in the 90%+ range. Tomorrow will be what they call up here a "Triple H" Day - Hazy, Hot, and Humid. I can't WAIT!

Your dream was funny....especially about Spencer. He is too funny. Us? Causing a disturbance? NEVER! :rolleyes1

I'm in the dark as well. Poor Sammie just sleeps since she can't look outside , Mom's got everything shut. My temp stayed at 79 yesterday, so far we're at 77 today.:sad2:

I know you're tired but that dream is a classic, both you & Bethany need to write this stuff down.:lmao:

Sammie is your beagle, right?

:lmao:

**********Warning proud mom moment.**********

This morning I got a call from Kendall's cheer coach. It was only about an hour after I dropped her off for practice but when I see the name on the caller ID I'm thinking something happened to her. She's a flyer and I'm always praying that they don't drop her. Anyway, the first words out of the coach's mouth is that Kendall isn't hurt. Then I can breathe, and she tells me they are going to announce that Kendall has been picked to be the Captain of the squad for next year. She wanted to take her out to lunch so that was the reason for the call. I sent Kelsie to the grocery to pick up a cake and I went in the other direction to get some balloons. I'm just so proud and I knew how bad she really wanted this. When Kendall got home you couldn't wipe the smile off her face. :)

:cheer2: That's great news!! Congratulations!

Thanks everyone for the prayers. My procedure is scheduled for July 2 first thing in the morning.

I'll give you a hug, despite the heat.... Will you remind us closer to the date? I have a lot on my mind but don't want to forget to pray for you that morning.

My son David got his ACT score today. He got a 30. We are very happy and excited over here:cool1:

Good for him! :woohoo:

Yes we did, the time is what we have left to finalize. I was thinking about 1:00

Sounds good to me...the meet is the only thing I have for that day so any time is fine with me.

Bethany, I hope the new dog works out!

Hey y'all! It's raining over here! Just a few sprinkles so far, but it sounds & looks like it might really be something!

Thanks! :goodvibes

YAY for the rain!! It was raining hard here....of course only from when I left work until when I got home...but I was soaked. I hope you get enough rain to cool you all off but not too much rain!

Oh maybe you all could come up for the weekend. The place next door is holding a seminar on "Preventing Heat Exhaustion".

GOSH! miss one day reading and you gals get VERY chatty!

Mary - praying for you and will continue to... and AWESOME score for David!

Lorie - laugh and a half! You too Cara - we should have a "seen on the NOLA METRO Disboards" book....

Kendall (hope that is right) way to go!:cheer2:

Bethany - SIX MORE DAYS!!!

Lori - love ya - my advice from experience is don't give any money to someone you aren't able to see as a gift and write off. Family can be even worse because of that emotional tie. It has been hard these last few weeks to not send money to bail out my brother. But if I wrote about how many times he calls needing it..and if I had helped each time, I would have had to file bankruptcy.... Your peace of mind is uttermost

Can't wait to see everyone again! could we start a little earlier cause i have something that day I have to bring Grayce to at 2p on the westnbank? or I will have to leave and come back if that is ok.....

My mp3 player got (slightly...I hope) water damaged in the rain today. Any ideas? :confused3

It turned on and played fine...until I plugged in the headphones then it went wonky. :sad2:

OMGosh- I have had to catch up on 3 pages!!

Lori,:hug:I hope you get the house situation resolved.

I am set up to get my uterine ablasion next week. I'm kinda nervous about it. I'll be glad when its over..
Thank you!

My friend had this done and she has been a happy camper ever since. It has been a couple years!

I hear ya'll on the heat. It seems like my AC never kicks off any more. I hate to get that bill next month.

awwww! Congrats!!!!:cloud9:

Can ya'll take a "Proud Mom Moment" a second time today:

My son David got his ACT score today. He got a 30. We are very happy and excited over here:cool1:
Holy Cr--! That is awesome!! What year is he???

Yeah, that is how we feel. We called her to even see if she is interested in loan to deed. I am calling Sheryl for more info, but know both parties are protected and that they pay a 3rd party, not us. If she is interested, we will look into it.
I love her too much to risk our relationship.

OK, so since some of you all are expressing proud mom moments, I am gonna share mine. Kids got SAT scores(Stanford) and I am VERY happy with the results. One got 88th percentile and 1 got 50th. I am VERY happy to have one avg and one not so avg child. I was considering changing Language arts curr. for my 88th percentiler, but she scored "Post High School" across the boards on that so I am leaving it be! It is kinda hard with comparisons with 2 TOTALLY different children, which is why I am not specifying who is who. But I am secretly thrilled!

Anyway, Ashton went to the ortho today and she is finally ready to start braces. She got her spacers in. THEN we found out that our insurance was terminated on May 31st:eek:What???? So I call Paul to tell him and he is like "no, they told me there would be no lapse, it would be a smooth transition"(since it is the same company, same insurance, no changes), but no, they have him as "terminated" on May1st and rehired June 1st, so insurance won't go into effect till the 1st of the month following hire.
I would have NEVER made this appt if I had no insurance to cover it. ughh I am so mad. We are uninsured till July 2nd(not the 1st), but I will make the appt mid July to make sure. The ortho office has graciously said they will not file anything till we are insured.

FYI- my friend doesn't have dental and she paid out of pocket-$3000 for her childs braces. My quote was $4900 and insurance covers 50%- so for having insurance I get a $550 break-doesn't make all that much sense does it?? O well, even though we have premiums they are not that expensive and it is worth having for paying for 2 sets. Paul says we may as well figure in an extra $100 per month for the next 4 years b/c Haley is not far after. And she was a thumb sucker, so I am sure it is worse than Ashton's, who never got into her fingers or a paci, for that matter.

My baby is in pain tonight though. She couldn't even eat they hurt so bad.

Lori

Lori, Congratulations on the SAT scores!! :cheer2:

I'm sorry Ashton is hurting tonight! It's been many years for me, but as soon as I read spacers put in, I cringed. I remember how much that hurt!

I'm ticked off about the insurance! That's really rotten that they didn't follow through as promised.

Wow, Now wonder we were all so hot, it broke a record at Audubon with 104!

Lori

uggggh on the insurance deal. Sometimes I wonder what good insurance is... then I get a hospital bill.

I totally understand what you are saying about having the two types of kids. I have one that is very bright and one that is average. The funny thing is if you just have an average conversation with them you would never guess which one is which. My average kids is very up to date on current events and loves facts... the really bright one doesn't want high expectations placed upon him... We celebrate the differences around here too...

but

congrats to Haley and Ashton!

Oh, I forgot my news...

Today a very good friends call to tell me they were very excited because they booked a WDW vacation. I of course was excited (as we crazy Dis'ers are when other people go to Disney) and asked when they were going.

They are going the same days as us and staying at the same resort... (they too are a family of 5 so POR it is)

We are so excited about it and what a coinkydink.. they did not know we were going at that time. Now I am going to have to rework the plans to make sure it is convienient to meet up, but without overdoing it. I do want to remain friends once we return to NOLA after all... and the boys are over the moon that their very best friends are going to Disney with them. I couldn't have worked this better if I tried.

ugh, am still up. I slept when the lights were out b/c I couldn't do anything-unless you count straightening up in a hot house with no a/c- so I finished drama camp project(check!), got rid of old icing and threw away cake:eek:. Watched Inkheart and ordered curriculum. I better be done b/c I just spent $350 on it-which is REALLY good, considering how much curriculum is.

DH checked into flights for possible trip to WDW and they are available(free ones too!), so transportation will be like $450-woohoo!!! The ONLY reason we didn't book yet is b/c DH still feels hope for this Hammond thingy. I really have NO hope for it. Thing is, if Hammond comes through, he won't have vacation time to take and we'd have to cancel. I was really suprised he is still hanging on to that, b/c i am not. I feel like our heads and hearts have been on a really spinny, non stop Mad hatter Teacup ride.(we truly cannot do this ride any longer, makes the head spin for while after).

good morning-Lori

going to sleep!
