Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Lorie, That sure sounds like Erik is getting anxious to be here! Do you feel ready if he comes early?
No I'm not ready, but I'm beginning to think that I'll NEVER be ready! The house will never be clean enough, the errands will never be done....he may as well just come on already! BUT, he needs to wait until after Friday- I'm getting my hair done that day. ;) Yesterday I just kept thinking "oh, not today- I need to get my hair done first!" :upsidedow

Lori- Just ramble away! I am also selfishly hoping that an even better job offer comes and y'all can stay here. I completely understand what you mean about this place being a safety net (that's why we chose to come back here after Katrina- warts, mold, and all!)

Bethany- I am thinking that your sickness is caused by stress (disclaimer: I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV...). Not to get all into it, but I grew up in a very dysfunctional household and had a difficult childhood, and I was constantly sick. I was ALWAYS in the doctor's office with every virus known to mankind- in the sixth grade I wound up in the hospital and almost had to repeat that grade from excessive absences. My doctor wanted to do an AIDS test and all kinds of other testing because my immune system was shot. Well, all the tests came back negative. He sat my mother down and told her it was stress causing all of this and that she needed to make my life less stressful or I would continue getting sick. Of course, she blew him off, and the sickness continued. Guess when I got better? When I moved out of that house when I was 18. Aside from the occasional bug and sinus issues, I haven't really been sick since- my Dr was absolutely right. It is amazing how stress can really wear you down physically. I really hope that this move will help make you better...

Jenny- That Jack is a smart boy! ;)

it is just home.....

anyway, I just joined the southeast Texas home educators association-which many Louisiana homeschoolers go to thier yearly conference. I already have someone coming next summer to stay with us for it!

Homeschooling looks really good in texas-lots of classes and sports and all kinda stuff we can join up!

Hey, does anyone know anything about different kinds of ways someone can rent to buy a house(a rent to deed???? or something???). I am looking for ways that my sister can have my home if they do not qualify:laughing:.

Lori

:cool1: :woohoo: So right after I got up from attempting to take a nap, I got a call from the apartment I sent the application to on Friday. They have received it and are processing the application, but they have a unit for me! :yay:

I still feel horrible. We have an easy field trip tomorrow (they are in one room in a restaurant and there are other teachers going so I'll have support with my kids), so I'm planning to go in, but if I still feel bad after work I'm going to go to the ER because no way will I be able to get into the doctor. They'll try to give me an appointment for August or something....

We looked into that and I think I just googled those terms and got lots of stuff!

Congrats on the apartment, which one did you decide on....pm me. I'm hoping you're feeling better tomorrow.

Morning Y'all,

Lorie, Thank you for the thank you note! I'm glad we were able to do it! It was so much fun, I hope we can all do it again next month! (Well not the baby shower, but the getting together part!)

Lori, I'm sure that leaving your church & friends is going to be very hard. Prayers that y'all get through it.

That would be great if your BIL could seing buying the house! :wizard: I pray that works out, it would make life so much easier!

Kat, You hardly rambled! You do read my posts don't you??? ;) Now I ramble!

I'm just so happy for Kyle & his Mom! :goodvibes

Kristina, On the Corks n Canvas, If we book a regular time (not a private one) do you know if we can still bring in food & drinks? I doubt that we'd have 20 of us to do a private party. I do think it would be a blast!

If we can't or don't want to do Corks n Canvas, The Posh Paint Pub on Metaire Rd has 8 person minimum to paint pottery. More info:
http://www.poshpaintpub.com/www/index.php?page=parties

Jenny, The kids won't tell y'all they are cold. You won't know until there lips turn blue! ;) I hope they have fun, maybe the teachers will pull out some games other than water stuff.

ditto on all the stuff shovan said to everyone.

If we do decide enough in advance on a date to paint /wine and pay, we can still bring our own stuff (I think). they don't supply any of the wine or regular liquids or food. we would all have to do it pretty fast though, and if you are a last minute person or have to drop not sure what refund policy is.

I have a coupon I won at auction for posh paint pottery - we did a girl scout thing there. probably no alcohol there but we did bring cookies...

*note* I had to go and take most of the smileys out. I had 48 and the limit is 25! Oops!

Bethany- feel better

My BIL mentioned interest in our house today, this is my DN6(the one we are super close to) step dad. I told him if he wasn't serious to shut up b/c that would make this move THAT much easier on my heart and the move- my DSis, and her family here in our special place. Then thinking of all the fees and selling issues we could surpass. I told him if they were serious to get thier credit report, get qualified and see if thjey can afford it. It's not a high end home here so I am praying it can happen.

Lori

I am hoping that will happen for your peace of mind.

The wedding on Saturday was wonderful. My niece was beautiful, my kids did great, the drinks were flowing and we danced the night away. We had a second line from the church to the hotel. It was only a three block walk but with a police escort, a brass band leading the way and about 400 people making the trek while tourist were taking your picture was so exciting. Now that it's over I am officially in Disney mode for our trip next week.

That sounds wonderful. Do you have some pictures? I am having a hard time picturing this. *blush*

Bethany I hope you feel better ASAP.. you have been sick off and on for a while now.

Thanks...and yes I have.

Good Morning y'all!

I swear I thought yesterday was going to be "the day"... I woke up feeling terrible- very tired, achy, and sweating with horrible pain and pelvic pressure. I thought for sure my water was going to break or contractions start. But no, nothing happened. I went to bed and actually had a good night's sleep and feel fine today. Little guy is messin' with me already!

What is up with this weather? I'm definitely not complaining, but when I woke up this morning, my hardwood floor felt too cold to go barefoot- I had to put on my flipflops!

I hope you feel better soon. I'm hoping that when you move here, the heat just melts away any germs or sickness you've got! My father actually believed that- whenever we were sick when we were younger, he would make us go sit outside in the sunshine for a little while because he swore that the sunshine and warmth would help cure anything. Crazy, but I would feel better after sitting outside for awhile.

Oh Lorie....glad you feel fine today! He's gonna come soon!

*gasp* You needed flip flops! LOL

Hahaha...I did go sit outside yesterday but it was cool and overcast and a weebit windy. I just wanted some "fresh" air to see if it would help. Not in this case.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

Believe me, he'll find the time for Mariah....

Thanks...and LOL about Mariah.

Bethany, I'm worrying about how sick you've been! I hope coming down here makes a big difference!

Uh oh...it was only about 3 pages back you were talking about fussin at me for bein sick. :scared:

Thanks ya'll! I love you all!
Paul and I got to go on a date Saturday night-my friend had both of my girls sleep over!! We went to a movie and dinner(God have we spent some money this weekend). We saw Star Trek(DH's pick and I didn't have a preference) and went to Copelands, where I had a glass of wine(Pinot Grigio that was really good). Well, being that I had spent the whole 15 minutes from the movie to a late dinner and in the parking lot boohooing over leaving(I mean uncontrolled sobbing like a baby), the wine put me right OUT! Paul was really cool about it and even told me we didn't HAVE to do it if it upset me this MUCH, but I told him that I am cool with moving but he would just have to expect me to have my moments-and LET me have them. We moved on to a nice dinner though and talked a lot about what situation we want the kids to spend thier teen years in. Part of my uncontrolled sobbing is this....

When we moved out of the home I grew up in in River Ridge that we were in for my 1st 18 years of life, and due to a divorce-I felt like I was losing EVERYTHING. I do not like change and I guess I get hung up on the safety and love that home provided for so long. Literally, Paul had to drag me kicking and screaming crying away from that house when we were 18, on moving day.

So we talked about the very different reasons from that time to this move. The safety comes from my family being together, not the house-and we are not getting divorced no matter how much he can get on my nerves.

I am probably gonna reminisce with you as our time here in this house comes to a close. I will feel like this....:cloud9: and you will be like....:headache:"girl, get over it and go to Houston!!" and maybe a few of these.....

Ramble on dahhhhling...if we get annoyed we'll just scroll past it...:lmao:

Seriously though, it sounds like you are just going to need a lot of hugs. And I can't speak for the others (although I suspect they feel the same just cuz they are all AWESOME! :goodvibes), but you know I can relate and will listen to/read your ramblings anytime you need to ramble! I posted either on here or WFD that I felt like this about moving: :scared::confused3

I have to say...I haven't cried once about this particular move. Maybe I will when the plane takes off? I have cried about moves in the past though. And I've had quite a few.

9 months sounds like much too long for it to be viruses.

Have they said if it's swine flu? If they close the school now, won't y'all have to make up the lost school days? That wouldn't be good.

Yeah...9 months does seem too long...but it's not a baby. :lmao:

I don't know if it's swine flu or not. And I have NO IDEA if they will have to make up the days or not, but I WILL NOT BE HERE to do it! I don't have a place to live here after June 30....I could work one extra day (Monday, June 29) but that's it. I am NOT missing my plane! So there! :lmao:

:scared1: I would think y'all have met the criteria to be shut down with those numbers!

I cried too. I also told Johnny yesterday that it's not fair that we're just getting to know Lori and she's leaving us.:sad1:

I would think so too...I am miffed because 14 schools are now closed, and not ONE is in my borough. :headache:

I cried too... and I haven't even met her in real life yet. :sad1:

BUT, he needs to wait until after Friday- I'm getting my hair done that day. ;) Yesterday I just kept thinking "oh, not today- I need to get my hair done first!"

Lorie - :lmao: about your hair!

The city has WARTS too? What else are you not telling me about? Hmmmm?!? (And it's too late to back out now....:headache:)

Lorie, I totally agree with you. I think it's the stress wearing down my immune system, and then I'm not fully recovering in between one virus and the next. I've never been a really sick person. I used to rarely get sick. Based on what I saw of the school last month, I don't think it will be nearly as insane of an environment. :goodvibes

Lorie- LOL!! I had my hair done before each of my 2 alos-had to look cute after having a baby!!;) It just makes you feel better and more like yourself.

Bethany- with all that pig flu hanging in the air, I'd be using LOTS of hand gel in my classroom and remind them to conver their sneezes and coughs with thier arm, not hand! Feel better,I am concerned for you.

Lori

I know- the pictures taken right after giving birth are bad enough (at least mine were- I looked like Night of the Living Dead!), no need to have bad hair too!

I am in so much discomfort right now- I swear this baby is doing The Hustle in here. He's moving around so much that my belly is moving and contorting all around and is starting to freak DH out, lol. Now he's got the hiccups too (the baby, not DH).

GOOD MORNING NEW ORLEANS!!!!

What a gorgeous, gorgeous day!!! I'm sitting on my patio, DISing, having coffee & listening to the birds and trickling of my fountain. I don't think it gets any better than this!! :goodvibes

I sure hope you can hang on until Friday! I soo understand the hair thing!

Lorie, If you need anything in the next couple of weeks, please ask me. Alexis' has kindg. graduation tomorrow. I will have her here at home for about a month. We won't be doing much, so if you need a sitter or someone to take you somewhere, let me know! Plus I'm feeling really good right now, so I can help! :goodvibes

I'm glad to hear you excited about this! :goodvibes It sounds good!

Lori, It's called Bond for Deed. We are doing that with Bob's half-sister on the home his Mom left to him. ( Long story, but if she gave the sister the house, it would already gone. His Mom gave his sister her inheritance before she passed. She went through $55,000 in 3 months! On nothing!) Anyway, if you want more info, give me a call.

Kristina, I'll call both of those places today & ask.

Bethany, I am so happy about your apt!!! :cool1: Was this your 1st choice or the 2nd? I'm sure you'll get well once you are down here. :wizard:

How exciting to already have visitors and school activities to look forward too.

For our future New Orleanian (Bethany) here are a few pictures of the Second Line from the wedding.

And one more of my family thrown in.

Just a quick check in from the bus ride back to the school. I had no parents come but I still have all the kids I brought! Yay! We still met the ratio though because of parents from other classes.

Thanks for the photos! I am looking forward to seeing them larger on my laptop!

I do not know what I'm going to do tonight in terms of going to the doctor. I think its just a bad head cold/allergies/sinuses. I'm still very congested but I think I am feeling better overall. I will have to see how I feel at 530- they can't find someone to cover me for after school. We are going to get back to school about 90 minutes before dismissal. I fail to see why they do this every time. Whatever. 27 more days after this one ends...not that I'm counting or anything....

Have a great rest of the day everybody!

Ok Bethany if you do not go to the Dr. you need to go to the drug store and buy some medication....tylenol cold sinus or something...speak to the pharmacist about your symptoms so he/she can recommend something for you.

GP - Very nice picks...Your family looked great.

Tricia, Thanks for posting the pics! What a pretty bride and your family is beautiful! I don't think there are any better weddings than N'awlins Style! You've made me excited about my niece's upcoming wedding in July! Especially since I already found the dress & shoes for it.

Bethany, I think Kat & I might have to start fussing....;) I hope you can get to the dr this evening.

Kristina, et al.. , I just realized we discussed July 11th for our Meet! That is my niece's wedding day! :sad2: I don't know what I was thinking! I'm sad.

I did call the Posh Paint Pub & you can pick your time and bring in whatever you want for food & drink (including wine!)

I've been in there, but haven't done anything yet. I've been wanting to do & just never got around to it.

I also just called Corks n Canvas. We need a minimum of 15 for a private party. Private parties can be held on Mondays or Wednesday evenings. Saturday afternoons or all day on Sunday.

However we can pick a day that they have regular classes & still have a "party". They just seat us all together & we can bring in food & wine for our group! The schedule isn't out yet for July, but they sure have some pretty pictures to paint in June. Here's the June schedule just to get an idea:
http://www.corksncanvas.com/calendar.php?storeID=3&month=7&year=2009

I asked about the techinique and you do actually draw it yourself & paint the picture. DD showed me a couple of pictures that her "non-painting" friends did & they were really very good!

Tricia - Great wedding pics, looks like such a fun time! Your family is really beautiful!

Bethany - I need a fussing smilie right now.......
