Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Bethany, I'm so glad you posted that quiz. I am now totally prepared for Hurricane season!:rotfl2::laughing:

I'm requesting prayers again! This time it's for my sonIL Josh's little sister Courtney (24). She is having surgery tomorrow to repair her arm that was damaged badly in a wreck last year. Her arm did not heal properly & she can't straighten it. They are going to have to do radiation to stop that bone growth & then break the elbow socket. They will have to keep her in for 3 days under sedation and "work" the joint. Then she is looking at a painful recovery period. To make matters worse she has very serious juvenile diabetes & they will be removing her pump for the procedure.

She goes in early but the surgery is long, so I don't know if I'll hear anything before I go for my injection appt tomorrow. Depending on how loopy I am after, I will try to let y'all know how it goes!

This is from the NYC Office of Emergency Management website:

This month's quiz is about hurricanes to celebrate Hurricane Awareness Month. ("Celebrate" :confused3 I'm STILL hung up on that word and it's the 12th already...)

1. You should not only develop a disaster plan to prepare for emergencies, but you should:
Ignore it in an emergency
Practice the disaster plan
Eat three meals a day

2. Every household member should assemble an emergency:
Work belt
Movie collection
Go Bag

3. Which of the following isn't an item you would have in your Go Bag?
Computer mouse
Flashlight
Granola Bar

4. You should keep enough supplies in your home to survive for at least:
3 months
3 days
3 hours

5. To avoid heat-related illness in the summer months you should:
Work outside in the sun
Drink plenty of water
Do excessive physical activities

THANK YOU NYC OEM. I now feel FULLY PREPARED for hurricane season, thanks to your FANTABULOUS QUIZ. Or NOT! :lmao:
:rotfl: I highlighted the answers that worked best for our family... hope they help:rolleyes1

Lorie - I'm so excited for you! The little guy (or girl? ;)) is going to be here so soon! I hope you are not in pain though.

Mary - I hope you can get some answers and relief at the doctor this week. Take it easy, okay? Or Sheryl and Kat will be fussin' at YOU!

I'm sorry you get fussed at work! But.. Kat & I would have to fuss at you, for things like not going to the dr. when you need to, overall just not taking good care of yourself! So BE GOOD and we won't have to fuss! :goodvibes

Thanks...I need a hug! I'm going BACK again to the doctor next month. I don't know if the asthma stuff is working so well. I'm back to daily albuterol again, even with the daily thing whatever it's called. After they scraped my ceiling at work, it smells WORSE like mold/mildew/I dunno the difference well enough, and now where they painted it white it's already turned yellow and bumpy. :headache: Today my nose was bleeding and I had a headache all day and the kids were complaining of headaches too.

Well, today was Spencer/Mommy day and we had a ball... but first we had to get the 4 year shots... he was very brave but it went like this...popcorn::

Nurse: okay Spencer, you need 4 shots today
Spencer: okay
Nurse: okay, here is the first one... you can look away if you want
Spencer: no, I wanna see... hey now... you know that hurts
Nurse: good job, now the other arm... ready?
Spencer: is it gonna hurt
Nurse: just a little *pokes him
Spencer: Hey LADY, why do you want to hurt me...
Nurse: i'm sorry... now your leg
Spencer: okay.. just two more
Nurse: yep, just two
Spencer: LADY, what did I do to you
(at this time I am holding him down praying that he won't kick her just to get his own lick in)
Nurse: you are all done... you did great... no tears...
Spencer: You can go... I never want to see you again
Nurse: you don't have to see me until youre 11...
Spencer: 11... I'm not coming back when I am 11... you like to hurt people

After that episode... we went to the aquarium to pet the shark... he wasn't interested in the otters, penguins, or other things... just the shark... where he promised the shark attendent that he would not choke the shark. The poor man's eyes got as big as saucers and asked him why he would choke a shark. Spencer pointed to the How to Pet a Shark sign and said "two fingers"... then the man relaxed but insisted on "helping" him pet the shark anyhow... Spencer was fine with that as he got to stay with the shark for quite a while singing rock a bye baby to it like it was gonna go for a nap...

I can just see him and hear him with all this! :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2::laughing:

He's pretty sharp though with the math....all while being poked! :lmao: And I like how HE allows her to leave...:lmao:

NO CHOKING!!!

The New York street corner- When I was in high school a million years ago, our drama club went to NYC. A couple of girls and I were behind a group at a corner waiting to cross. We began to cross when the others, then the light changed:scared1:!!! We were in the middle of the street-near Times Square- with cars zooming on either side of us. It was pretty scary. I had grown up in New Orleans, so I was kind of fazed but my friends were from "down the bayou" in Galliano. I thought that I'd have to scrape a couple of them off the road they were so scared, they couldn't move!!! From then on, it was taxis everywhere:rotfl:.

:lmao: Did the taxis scare them? They are gray-hair inducing in their own right. The one in Boston the other day kept accelerating as he was APPROACHING curves. :scared:

catholic high schools have ceremonies for EVERYTHING. Every year we got some new silly somesuch...a pin, a cub (on a string), a ring. Then (to make more money, I'm sure) seniors are allowed to wear a tan color sweater instead of the dark brown sweater, so you're supposed to buy a brand new sweater for one year.

I was supposed to leave the example up throughout the lesson so they can refer back to it. I usually do, but for this particular assignment I did not want them copying, so we reviewed it and then I erased it.

See, the administrators will walk in (or sometimes look in the door as they pass), stay for 5-10 minutes, then write up a full page or more from what they see in that time. There's a lot of assuming going on about what you did before and after they were there.

We had school rings but they weren't JUST for seniors. Anybody (but freshman) could get one and it wasn't in a ceremony. You just ordered it and when it came in, you got it and put it on.

I'm so tired and it's late. Goodnight.

OMG ROFLMFAO :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: that is TOO Spencer!!!

Ok Kristina, you got me on this one. I know the ROFL is roll on floor laughing but you lost me with MFAO.:confused3

Spencer sure was a brave little man. So glad ya'll had a great mommy and son day.

Sheryl prayers said for Courtney. I hope all goes well.

I'm in countdown mode until my niece's wedding this weekend. :bride: It's hard to believe it's already here.

Lorie I thought I had a Todd sighting last week. Funny how the DIS always pops in your mind. I was at Sam's Club in Slidell getting gas and the man next to me looked like a picture I've seen of Todd. I immediately thought to myself  hey that lookes like Ms Marigny's husband. Should I say something? You know on the lines of ..........hi, you don't know me but I'm Grumpy's Wife (Tricia) on the DIS. I chat with your wife Lorie on the NOLA thread. As I'm sure he's looking at me like a crazy person. Then a little boy pops his head out of the window and calls out daddy so I saved myself an embarrassing moment. :rotfl:

Ironing board while I sit on the sofa.

He said . . What have you been doing with all the
grocery money I gave you?
She said ... Turn sideways and look in the mirror!

On a wall in a ladies room . .. 'My husband follows
me everywhere' Written just below it ' I do not'

Man says to God: 'God, why did you make woman so Beautiful?'
God says: 'So you would love her.'
But God,' the man says, 'why did you make her so Dumb?'
God says: 'So she would love you.'

Yes, It's hard to believe that something that awful can happen anywhere much less in Thibodaux! :sad2:

Lorie, You wrote DS!!! I think that's the first time! :lovestruc Awww, sweet! I caught that too!
The scary / sad thing about the whole thing for me is that it didn't happen in the "bustling metropolis" of Thibodaux, but in one of those little communities just down the bayou from Thibodaux. I know the house where it happened; I still have friends who live on the same street; I grew up with many of the people whose names are in the news accounts...I could go on & on. It's heart-wrenching seeing their stories play out like some bad movie.

At first I was set on a french name, Nicole Renee or Nicole Jolie, or going with Jolie as the first name.
Then we couldn't decide between Angelina Nicole or Angelina Jolie , she has told me she's very glad we didn't go with the last option!
My lil' sis is a Nicole! Actually, all three of us have French names. Too funny about the Angelina Jolie!

WOW the meet is this weekend! need to update my list and get a final count of who is going! woo hoo!

I'm disappointed, but I won't be able to make the trip this weekend. :sad1: We've had two rainouts so far this week, and I know at least one of them will have to be made up Saturday. Y'all eat plenty enough cake for me too!

Rie has cheer practice this weekend, so no meet for me :(. I'm an optimist though, so I know that eventually I'll meet y'all in person.

Happy Hump day. I am in Jackson again for the next few days...:rolleyes1

I am so tired this morning!

DD's 4th grade class had their musical (flutophone) last night. It was so nice. It is so amazing to sit there and listen/watch your child play these songs. As I was doing so, I was thinking about all of the years she has attended Arden Cahill and all of the friends she has grown up with. Its amazing; it seems like yesterday I remember her being in the pre kindergarten class with most of these kids. It seems as though it was yesterday. :sad1: After we went to Outback with her two BFF and their moms. She will miss them dearly.
