Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Kat, take care of yourself. I know those LSU boys are loving you--bringing them all of that delicious food.:thumbsup2

Sheryl, I saw Alexis' picture on facebook. She is so pretty. Let us know what she thought of her first day of school.:goodvibes

With Jackson, I'd say he should drop about 5-8 lbs. He's not a tiny sheltie, he's kinda big for the breed. Poor thing--I took him walking today and he was having a little trouble keeping up. He must have been dying out there in the heat with all that fur. When he came in, he went right to the stairs and took a nap. We'll go again a little later on.

Its funny, my other dog, Barqs (we're not sure what breed he is, but he looks like a little greyhound/catahoula/Australian cattledog/rat terrier) has these super long legs. He's just walking, no effort at all, while poor Jackson is struggling to keep up.

Today was the 1st day of FIRST GRADE! :sad1: I need a crying smiley. Chris took off the day & brought her here to catch the bus. But the bus was late, so Chris put her in the car to take her to school. As soon as Bob & I closed the door & walked to the kitchen, I heard a bus. I ran outside, but the bus was already rounding the corner & she was on it. Chris said Alexis so the bus coming & started screaming "Stop the car! That's the bus!" She said she stopped & the child unbuckled & jumped out into the street! Luckily not in front of the bus! I'm sad I missed it, but she said she was excited & happy. Chris followed the bus to school to meet the teacher, carry the very large bag of school supplies & go to church with her. I told Chris I'd come to church, only to realize I haven't driven yet with that darn neck collar! I decided the 1st day of school was not the best time to try it.
I'm so sorry she's still sick & missing school! I hope that steroid kicks in today & she starts feeling better! Prayers for that. :flower3: What did the dr say she has?

Cher bebe, 1st grade! That's such a big event for a little one.

Poor Rie, continued prayers for her.

Not feeling well today, I'm pretty sure I'm just missing my boy.:sad1:

:hug:Ahhh

The doctor said Rie has a viral illness. He checked her for bronchitis, pneumonia, and the flu and thank God, she doesn't have any of those. He told me to keep her on the antibiotic as a preventive because the flu is going around. He said at the middle school in a nearby area that 100 out of 300 kids were out sick and that a majority of those had the flu.:scared1:

 Kathy remember you will see him soon.

Gosh Bethany, The school sounds really together! Are you sure you're not dreaming??

Awww...I'm glad she was so excited to go in! How did it go?

No, I'm NOT sure yet! :rotfl: They DO have it together, most of the time. There is the occasional glitch here and there and some confusion on occasion, but they are fixed quickly when they arise. And get this: all the forms you need for requests and things are saved documents on your (working) computer! So I don't need to go to the office, track down the spot where it SHOULD be, find out there are no copies, find someone that is allowed to make copies, find the master, etc...wait 3 months, blah blah blah.

For example: I needed a key for the file cabinet. I printed out the form (on my WORKING printer, that has SCHOOL-ISSUED paper and SCHOOL-ISSUED ink), filled it out, placed it in the correct spot, and about an hour later, the correct key was brought TO MY ROOM. :faint: (Speaking of my room...I put up a few photos of it on Facebook.)

Happy Birthday Tricia!!!!:bday:

Glad to see you back Kristina, I'd be happy to adopt y'all.;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRICIA!!!
I hope it's a good one!

Kristina, It's good to see you here! I've been missing you. How is your pretty daughter? All ready for school?

Lori, I wasn't in the mood for beans yesterday either. :confused3. Something must be wrong with me. I cooked "beer can" chicken yesterday, but Beer Can Chicken Monday JUST AIN'T RIGHT!
hey ya'll..wow didn't realize i had been gone so long...and it is great to know i was missed. sorry I haven't been able to keep up lately - so many things going on and going wrng. promise to check in more....have had a lot going on but I think I am going to have to give in and step back from some stuff. I have kind of lost myself lately and need to find me again...which means getting more get togethers going! ;)

and the refi folks claim not much longer...i have been so stressed without any money so I hope it hurries up!

speaking of, Lorie - I have a client out that way on Friday - should be done around 11a so let me know if I can come by - cant afford a lot but i can get chicken nuggets or something!
Lockers take some getting used to from what I remember. Rie just carried her books in a backpack because she was worried about getting to class late.

Rie is still sick. She has been on an antibiotic and got a steroid shot on Monday. She came down last night and slept with me because her chest was hurting- Tim slept on the sofa, poor thing. I hope she doesn't have bronchitis but I have a bad feeling. Rie has missed school Friday, Monday, and now today. This afternoon , I'll go to get notes from a friend that I can copy.
hugs on Rie - hope she gets well quickly!
I remember how challenging it was for me and I was in 7th grade. Hugs & prayers for Aly.

How much weight should he drop?

Poor Rie, continued prayers for her.

Not feeling well today, I'm pretty sure I'm just missing my boy.:sad1:
hugs Kat - I know this is hard for ya. And Serena - hope Aly gets used to it quickly!

Have a great first day Cara and Bethany!:cheer2:

Mornin' y'all!!!

Rie is back at school today!!! She feels so much better, thank God. Bethany and Cars, have a great day!!!!!

Julie, I'm so glad your girl is better:goodvibes

Bethany and Cara, good luck on your first day. Please post and let us know how it went.

My husband is coming home tonight. He has been in Washington DC since Monday. Its been a tough week, with the kids getting used to going back to school. Its so hard for them to get up early. We all get up for 5:15am, and I hate it. Its still dark outside...does anyone ever get used to this? I guess some are morning people.

Thank-you Mary. Thanks too for the prayers and good wishes from all of you!!

I'm glad your husband is coming home!!! I hate getting up early-ugh. I get up at 5:30 and get Rie up at 6.

Hey Y'all,

I woke up this morning with sinus pain from Hell! My face feels like it's going to explode. I just finished a round of antibiotics too, so I'll have to see if I can tough this one. Ugh.

Bethany & Cara, I hope your 1st Official Day of School goes perfectly!

Mornin' y'all!!!

Rie is back at school today!!! She feels so much better, thank God. Bethany and Cars, have a great day!!!!!

Julie, I'm so glad Rie felt good enough to go to school! Yeah for that!

Oh man, what a rough way to start the week! I had to enlist my DD's help to get one little girl off to school this morning! Without an aide to get DH ready & needing to get them both off about the same time, I just can't do it right now.

I know I don't ever get used to it. I'm just not a morning person. I think a lot of us are all feeling like that. Jenny posted on FB this morning "Why doesn't school start at 10:00?" I can't even laugh at that, because I've always wished it! :wizard:

:hug:I'm sorry you feel bad today. Sinus headaches are miserable.

Thanks! Rie was so ready to go to school-go figure she loves it!

I agree about school starting at 10. When Rie was in grade school, it started at 8:45-that was great. High school starts at 7:15-not so great.

Hey y'all!

Okay, I'm going to attempt a post! Once again, I've fallen way, way behind on this thread...:sad2:

So, let me update on the kiddies. Erik is doing fine, getting BIG! and is definitely a wild one! He started rolling over a week ago , and is very strong. He now attempts to roll away from me when I'm changing him- I wasn't ready for that just yet ! Sienna didn't do all of the rolling until she was over six months old I think (he is two months old). He has also discovered his hands and that they are fun to hit with! I'll be feeding or holding him, and all of a sudden, POW! right in the jaw. He is still not sleeping through the night, but we are working on it, which would explain my manic state lately. 4 hours of combined (not straight!) sleep every night for over two months does scary things to you.

Sienna is a hot mess, what can I tell you. The things that come out of her mouth...:rotfl: Okay,so the other day I was straightening up and picking up her books off of the floor....
DD: "hey, leave that alone! Don't touch my books!"
Me: "You can't talk to me like that- you're not the boss around here!"
DD: "I AM the boss! And get back in your cage!!":confused3:rotfl2:
I have no idea where the cage thing came from. I'm guessing she overheard MIL fussing at her dog? But I swear to you, I don't live in a cage at home. :lmao:

I made a huge accomplishment today- I went to the grocery store with both kids (and survived)! It was crazy, but I'm glad I made it through okay! I can't revel too much though because I'm feeling under the weather, and worse and worse every moment. Sienna was feeling bad yesterday, so of course she passed it on to me.

So I see that everyone has gone back to school (and that Kyle made the big move). I hope everyone has a great year and that routines are adjusted back into smoothly!

Sheryl- I hope you feel better!

Lori- Aww dang- I read you had to do the big reveal early. I'm glad though that you have someone to squeal with now! :cool1:

Kristina- tomorrow will depend on how Sienna and I are feeling... hopefully better because DH and I are supposed to go out to eat tomorrow night!

OMG Lorie I'm :rotfl2:. I can only imagine how it sounded when she said that!:rotfl2: Hope y'all feel better soon!

I must share this with y'all, this is why I worry about the boy.....Kyle is looking for a part-time job in the Baton Rouge area. His apartment complex sent out an e-mail that they were hiring Community Assistants so I told him to check into it because it would be very convenient to work where you live. He did and called me and said "Mom, they don't pay you, all you get is free rent. I need spending money".:sad2: After I explained to the knucklehead that I would deposit the money I would have paid on rent into his account he made a beeline to the office to apply. :rotfl:

Lorie, It's good to hear from you! 4 hours of combined sleep ! Oh you Poor Mama. Then a grocery trip with both of them! Wow you are a SuperWoman! That is a big accomplishment. :worship:

Erik sounds like all boy to me.:goodvibes Sienna is too funny! She had to have heard that from your MIL. Gosh that is hilarious. :rotfl2:

I really hope you're not getting sick! I'll say some prayers that you don't get "it"! :flower3::hug:

"Get back in your cage!":lmao: I'll have to remember that one if Tim gets on my nerves.

Bless your heart-4 hours sleep:scared1: I would not be able to string words together to make a sentence. You're doing great!!!

Unfortunately, I've started having "tummy troubles", so I'm afraid it's manifesting into a stomach bug- ick:crazy2::sick:

My DH was doubled over laughing when she said that, and now tells me to "get back in my cage" when I'm nagging at him. I'll never live it down.:lmao:

Erik falls asleep fine, but staying asleep is the problem. He wakes up every half hour to an hour, and still wants a feeding during the night. I'm working on him (timing the feedings better, swaddling) so it is getting better, but oh do I dream of eight hours of uninterrupted sleep!:cloud9:

Congrats on the shopping trip!! And 4 hours of sleep.... :scared:

Rie'smom - I'm glad to hear Rie is better and enjoying school.

Sheryl - How's Alexis doing with school? Does she still like it?

My first day was good! :thumbsup2 I don't have kids yet (I won't until probably the week of Aug 31). I have to meet with all the parents before I can work with the children. I did have to cover a 5th grade class twice to let the teacher have a break, and I will again tomorrow. They are funny. The 2nd time I was there, they were doing skits. The rest of my day was spent doing paperwork. Not terribly exciting, but not a fiasco or horror show, so I'll take it! :rotfl:

Oh no- I know I'd be a mess if I had 4 hours sleep, even if it WAS uninterupted. Trying to think back...... have you tried throwing the blanket you swaddle him in in the dryer 1st, and we used to use a clip on vibrating thing(sounds great:laughing:)on the bassinet or crib, but it was a godsend. I'd nurse, Paul would run the blanket through the dryer, then we'd burp, change diaper, swaddle in warm blanky and turn that vibrate thing on..... she slept well only when we did that. Just a thought....

Umm, you all sound like homeschooling could be an option:laughing:- we start school at 9:30 ish. Sometimes earlier and sometimes later. I must admit that this IS a perk.

I decided to go as naturally as possible on the anxiety drugs. I really don't want to get back on lexapro, but am keeping the idea of that tucked back there. Even though it is more $$, I went to a health place and got a few things to try. I also bought something to calm Haley's nerves for the plane. We are trying it tonight and I am using it to be able to GET to sleep(which has been an issue).

Paul and I also talked about getting a couples massage after we get a contract on the house maybe after we find out financing is in place for the potential buyers we may never get. That sounds soooo good.
The inspector is coming tomorrow-so i am glad I am working. If I were to be home I'd leave anyway. I do NOT want to hear what is wrong with my home.

Guess some of us will be seeing each other soon! can't wait!

Lori

Let me know how the natural stuff works for you. When I was having my depression/anxiety problems a few weeks ago, I took Prozac and 1/2 of a .25 Xanax to sleep at night. I'm no longer taking either. I wish they'd come up with an antidepressant that you can take as needed.
