Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

TGIF gang! Been MIA yesterday due to me being crazy busy at work and coming home to no internet service....Dang I did not realize how addicted I am to the Dis and Facebook.... :rotfl:

Aly seems to be doing better by the day...she still can't get the locker but she has a work around which works for her. :thumbsup2

hey ya'll..wow didn't realize i had been gone so long...and it is great to know i was missed. sorry I haven't been able to keep up lately - so many things going on and going wrng. promise to check in more....have had a lot going on but I think I am going to have to give in and step back from some stuff. I have kind of lost myself lately and need to find me again...which means getting more get togethers going! ;)

and the refi folks claim not much longer...i have been so stressed without any money so I hope it hurries up!

 to you my friend....I feel you. We are here for you whenever you need to talk.

Mornin' y'all!!!

Rie is back at school today!!! She feels so much better, thank God. Bethany and Cars, have a great day!!!!!

:yay: Awesome....glad she is better and back to school.

My husband is coming home tonight. He has been in Washington DC since Monday. Its been a tough week, with the kids getting used to going back to school. Its so hard for them to get up early. We all get up for 5:15am, and I hate it. Its still dark outside...does anyone ever get used to this? I guess some are morning people.

Glad your DH is back home...yes it is very hard being a single parent even if you really aren't. You don't realize how much they help until they are not around. :goodvibes

Hey Y'all,

I woke up this morning with sinus pain from Hell! My face feels like it's going to explode. I just finished a round of antibiotics too, so I'll have to see if I can tough this one. Ugh.

I hope you are feeling better.

So, let me update on the kiddies. Erik is doing fine, getting BIG! and is definitely a wild one! He started rolling over a week ago , and is very strong. He now attempts to roll away from me when I'm changing him- I wasn't ready for that just yet ! Sienna didn't do all of the rolling until she was over six months old I think (he is two months old). He has also discovered his hands and that they are fun to hit with! I'll be feeding or holding him, and all of a sudden, POW! right in the jaw. He is still not sleeping through the night, but we are working on it, which would explain my manic state lately. 4 hours of combined (not straight!) sleep every night for over two months does scary things to you.

Sienna is a hot mess, what can I tell you. The things that come out of her mouth...:rotfl: Okay,so the other day I was straightening up and picking up her books off of the floor....
DD: "hey, leave that alone! Don't touch my books!"
Me: "You can't talk to me like that- you're not the boss around here!"
DD: "I AM the boss! And get back in your cage!!":confused3:rotfl2:
I have no idea where the cage thing came from. I'm guessing she overheard MIL fussing at her dog? But I swear to you, I don't live in a cage at home. :lmao:

O my...they don't make them like they used to hugh...must be something in the milk. :lmao: Miss Sienna is a HOT MESS!!! :rotfl2:

I must share this with y'all, this is why I worry about the boy.....Kyle is looking for a part-time job in the Baton Rouge area. His apartment complex sent out an e-mail that they were hiring Community Assistants so I told him to check into it because it would be very convenient to work where you live. He did and called me and said "Mom, they don't pay you, all you get is free rent. I need spending money".:sad2: After I explained to the knucklehead that I would deposit the money I would have paid on rent into his account he made a beeline to the office to apply. :rotfl:

YEs indeed....I bet he ran at warp speed over there. :rotfl:

My first day was good! :thumbsup2 I don't have kids yet (I won't until probably the week of Aug 31). I have to meet with all the parents before I can work with the children. I did have to cover a 5th grade class twice to let the teacher have a break, and I will again tomorrow. They are funny. The 2nd time I was there, they were doing skits. The rest of my day was spent doing paperwork. Not terribly exciting, but not a fiasco or horror show, so I'll take it! :rotfl:

Good for you; I'm glad your 1st day was a success! :thumbsup2 You have another whole week to hang around.

I decided to go as naturally as possible on the anxiety drugs. I really don't want to get back on lexapro, but am keeping the idea of that tucked back there. Even though it is more $$, I went to a health place and got a few things to try. I also bought something to calm Haley's nerves for the plane. We are trying it tonight and I am using it to be able to GET to sleep(which has been an issue).Guess some of us will be seeing each other soon! can't wait! Lori

I absolutely love my lexapro...it keeps me somewhat sane. I can't wait to see you guys too. :yay:

Let me know how the natural stuff works for you. When I was having my depression/anxiety problems a few weeks ago, I took Prozac and 1/2 of a .25 Xanax to sleep at night. I'm no longer taking either. I wish they'd come up with an antidepressant that you can take as needed.

I wish they would as well.

I think that price is a factor, but cheapest isn't always the best. ....so try to find out the exact amount of everything before you get into it.
Thanks ! That scenario is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I've never bought into a gym membership longer than 6wks because I know something else always comes up, and I want my money in my pocket, not theirs.

DD: "I AM the boss! And get back in your cage!!":confused3:rotfl2:
OMG! How can you fuss at that?? :rotfl: Didn't you want to say, "OK, can I find my cage, crawl back in & take a nap?? You be the boss for a little while!" Yeah, you can think it, just don't ever say it out loud!

I hear you on the lack of sleep. I was averaging about 4hrs sleep on a good night when DS2 was around 6mos. Looking back, I don't know how I was functioning at work. Hope E's sleep pattern works itself out soon.

"Mom, they don't pay you, all you get is free rent. I need spending money".:sad2: After I explained to the knucklehead that I would deposit the money I would have paid on rent into his account he made a beeline to the office to apply. :rotfl:

Oh, dear! And you thought you weren't needed??? Hope y'all have a good visit & lunch today.

My first day was good! :thumbsup2 Not terribly exciting, but not a fiasco or horror show, so I'll take it! :rotfl:
Sometimes mundane is good! Glad to hear you're happy with the switch.

Rie's mom - Good to hear Rie is back to full speed. Nearly called my sis to find out if her kiddos were in the vast number of the flu scare no-shows when I realized they're ALL at the high school now. (When did that happen?) Wonder if they cross paths with Rie during the day?

Shovan - How was A's experience so far? Hope she's having fun & the bus route kinks get resolved.

Happy Friday everybody! It's only the 1st full week of school, and I'm already needing a weekend.

Morning Y'all,

I'm off Nana duty today, Alexis' Dad has her today. I went back to sleep after getting DH off, because I had strange "Bethany like" dreams all night! Felt like I didn't sleep at all. We lived in a very odd trailer park with lots of very friendly but really strange neighbors. I'd wake up from it, then fall back asleep & it would start all over again. :upsidedow

Thanks everyone for asking how Alexis is doing. She likes her teacher & teacher's aide a lot! There is only 24 kids in her class! I'm happy about that. She loves being in class, BUT I don't think they've gotten into any real work yet. She hasn't complained about the long bus ride.

I asked her yesterday about her new friends. She told me she didn't have any! and that she asked one girl to be her friend & she told her "No she already had a friend." :sad1: Then she got upset & started to cry said "I don't want to talk about it anymore!"

She claims to not have any girls in her class from last year. But she's been there since she was 3, she has to know these kids. I don't know if she's having trouble making friends or just being dramatic.

I'm still feeling bad, but not as bad as yesterday.

Kathy, I know you're having fun today!

Bethany, I'm glad school is going smoothly! How's Cara doing, she hasn't checked in? Poor girl's probably worn out with back to school?

Lori, Please let me know if the herbal sleep stuff helps? I'm like to get off of Lunesta. I hope it works for you & Haley! :flower3:

Lorie, I guess you realize Todd & Sienna really are never going to let this one die?! From now on they'll be telling you to get back in your cage! Maybe you should threaten Todd with something big to put a quick end to it? ;)

Terry, I'm glad Alysia is getting the hang of it! Does she like her classes & teachers? How's she doing on the friend front? No internet at home is just plain :scared1: I know I'm seriously addicted myself!

cajunmommy, How are your kids adjusting with back to school?

Have a great day friends!:goodvibes

Good morning NOLA! Heading to Baton Rouge with a cooler full of food for the boys!:thumbsup2

Have fun Mom!!!!

Thank-you!
Do your nieces/nephews go to THS? If they do, PM me their names and I'll ask Rie if she knows them.

Your post about Alexis made me cry. Poor little sugar. How old is she? Girls go through stages in different grades and I can tell you 'little witches' is too nice a term for the mean girls. Give Alexis a hug from me.

I hope you feel better!

Must be the moon, or maybe vicarious back-to-school stress, because my nights lately have been restless as well.

I'm sure Ms. A will make fast friends soon. It just takes a little while for things to shake into place. I agree with Rie'smom's comments on the "queen bees" - I've been amazed to see the clique-ish behaviour start so soon with the girls in my kids' classes.

The boys are doing just fine. The fifth grader is complaining about being bored (already!). He's tired of reviewing & ready to learn something. (Yeah, I think I've got a geek-to-be on my hands, but I'm not complaining). The 3rd grader is doing just as I expected - forgotten assignments, a random conduct tally mark, but all in all, just fine. Fall baseball starts this weekend, so we'll see how the attitude changes.

Thank-you!

Yep - this is the non-EDW crew. I'll PM their names.

Hope y'all managed to stay dry today. The weather was something ugly here for a while. I wonder if Kathy & crew managed to dodge the rainstorms?

hey gang we are finally home from driving in this mess!!!! :scared1:

Aly is fine on the friend front, she has 4 friends who are also knew to Ursuline in the 5th grade like her, 3 from Cahill and one from gynmastics. She said she has also made a few new friends too....

Awe I feel from A saying she don't have any friends. The teachers usually help with getting the kids talking to each other.

I plan to curl up on my couch, read a book and watch my favorite shows Monk and Psyche.

I'm sorry that made you so sad. It is sad, what's even sadder is she's only 6 and she already went through some of that behaviour last year in kindergarten! I really don't know what's going on yet, she is a drama queen. So it's to know. If I continue to hear she doesn't have friends, we'll talk to the teacher.

Ms Terry, I glad Aly is doing so well in her new school! Glad you're home safe & sound too!

cajunmommy, I'm glad your boys are doing well!

Kat, I hope you had a good day & a safe drive!

Have a good weekend everyone.

Rie went through something like that when she went from being home schooled to going to Catholic school. In a short time though she made friends. I'm sure Alexis will too.

Hey guys, haven't read back but wanted to say we had a great, very wet day in Baton Rouge. Had rain all the way there and back and the entire time we were there but it didn't bother any of us. We took Kyle and one of his roomies out to lunch and had a new(for us) dish called "Angels on Horseback". It's a jumbo shrimp stuffed with an oyster, wrapped in bacon and lightly battered and fried....oh...my...word...AMAZING!!!!! We spent the rest of the time touring the campus and being shown around town. Kyle is actually coming back to NOLA tomorrow to get some reference letters for his job application so I'll be cooking for him tomorrow too!!!

The DIS posting is so whackadoodle sometimes. I quoted you and posted a remark and neither showed up in my last post:confused3.

Just wanted to say that I'm glad you made it home safely!

Sheryl- hugs to Alexis!!! I am sure she will have made friends very soon. Girls can be a little territorial, but it will work out for her. She is too cute and hilarious and outgoing to not make new friends soon! They all are probably just finding thier comfy spot and have no idea where to settle.

The stuff I am taking to "chill" is not really a sleep aid. It is called "Composure" and it is supposed to calm nerves. I am guess if it calms nerves that it can help me GET to sleep if i can turn off all the "stuff" rolling in my brain at bedtime that I cannot turn off. It seemed to work well on me last night and Haley was less fidgety at bedtime, but this could be placebo affect too- we'll see. I am also taking this stuff called "3 Way Stress Management" that has tons of B vitamins and other vitamins, plus some herbal stuff that is supposed to help maintain a 'relaxed calm, natural energy and replenish depleted body systems"- so we'll see! As usual, with more natural therapies, it can take longer to work. I am unsure this is a good thing for me-I am really need help NOW:laughing: I do know that lexapro and other antidepressants take about 3 weeks to really hit your system well, so this may take 4 weeks-so i am game for it.

As far as sinuses, we swear by the Neti pot! It works on me and my kids. Ashton is getting sniffly and tomorrow we are using it-but we lovingly call it the "snot pot";)

Kathy, I'm glad you had a good time with the food. You still have not come seen Anabelle, by the way...

Today we just have plans to run errands; we might go out to eat too. I don't know yet. :confused3

OMG is it just me or is it humid something fierce out there?

I hope every day is a good day for you!!!

It isn't you, the humidity is bad. Do you love our cold fronts?:rotfl: Tomorrow the humidity should be lower.

There's a good restaurant in Metairie near Lakeside Mall called Crazy Johnnys. The steaks there are sooooo good!! The prices are very reasonable too. If you're interested, the address is:
3520 18th St
Metairie, LA

Good morning NOLA! Gotta get in the kitchen soon, Kyle is coming in and I want to have dinner ready when he gets here!

Bethany - I will see Anabelle soon, can't wait! bbl.......

I keep hearing about this cold front but I'm like this: :confused3 :lmao:

Thanks for the restaurant info. This past Monday was DH's birthday. We were going to go out to eat then, but when I got home he said the weather was too crummy and he didn't want to go.

Yay! :goodvibes

I think I need to go to a T-Mobile store. I think I am having problems with the phone itself and it has a year warranty and I haven't had it even CLOSE to that long. It keeps shutting itself down at random. I'm going to talk to them about service issues too. Ideally, I'd just return the thing under the warranty and not get a replacement but I don't know if I'm going to be able to do that, and I'd also get out of my contract and go with another provider (Verizon?) and maybe pay as you go or something. Never in my life have I had phone issues this bad!

3 weeks from this moment we will be landing in Orlando!!

Happy Birthday to Edison!!!!!

I am thrilled with Verizon! I'm getting a signal in places I never did with T-Mobile.

I told him...he says thanks. :goodvibes

Who did you talk to? Did you call T-Mobile's 611 or did you go into a store? How did you convince them to get out of your contract? I have something like 1.5+ years left on this one. :headache: My phone works fine on the Westbank most of the time until I enter Plaquemines - although the other night it wouldn't work in my house, even next to the window and I was talking to my mom and about 8 dropped calls later we gave up.
