Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Shovan - Based on what I read on the WFD thread, I'm gonna wag my finger in your direction and say no more diving after DH or chasing roaches! OK - well, the diving after DH was instinctive, so I'll give you a pass on that one.

Ooooh!!! She's gonna fuss at you for fussin' at her! :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Did you read THAT part on the WFD thread?

Yesterday I had to take Anabelle to the vet to get her 2nd round of shots (she got the 1st round when she was up in BR). Well, she had an allergic reaction (
OH no! Where was our resident vet girl when you needed her ?(oh, yeah, probably @ work) Looks like you need to add her # to your emergency contacts! You've got contacts @ the LSU vet center too, don't you? Were they able to help?

I lost my very 1st puppy the same way - some kind of awful rxn to routine shots. I'm glad Anabelle is OK now.

And, yeah, I did read her explaining away the fussin'. I figure she must be feeling a heck of a lot better to react so quickly!

I called my friend up in BR that I got the dog from. Her DD is the one at LSU, but she knows a lot about dogs - she has 4.

Sorry to hear about your puppy. :sad1:

The emergency clinic the vet patches their phone system through was in Metairie; they gave me a number to a Westbank emergency clinic - who opens at 6 (an hour later). But really?!? Metairie? At RUSH HOUR? From HERE? :scared:

TGIF NOLA!

Well add me to the feeling down in the dumps category...i won't and can't go into the details without fear of :sad1: but I have broken off a friendship which was very important to me but had to end due to my sanity. This too shall pass. :sad1: :sad1:

 Unfortunately, some friendships become toxic and as you posted to stay sane, you have to let the person go go. It hurts at first but you did the right thing. Take care.

Yesterday I had to take Anabelle to the vet to get her 2nd round of shots (she got the 1st round when she was up in BR). Well, she had an allergic reaction (she was puffing up all over :sad1:) to them that I realized was serious at 5:03 - they close at 5. :headache: I had to run out to Walgreens to get her children's liquid benadryl. She started getting better after a dose of that, then after a 2nd dose at midnight and a good night's sleep, she is back to normal this morning! :goodvibes

Oh my goodness, that must have freaked you out! Thank God you kept itt together and knew she could take Benadryl! That's good info to know for our sweet doggies.

Shovan - Based on what I read on the WFD thread, I'm gonna wag my finger in your direction and say no more diving after DH or chasing roaches! OK - well, the diving after DH was instinctive, so I'll give you a pass on that one. On a different note, how are you handling Alexis withdrawal? How soon do you start the back to school routine?

So my turn for venting.....Long story short - my car decided to eat it's main drive belt last night, leaving us on the side of I-10 about 5 minutes from the house. :headache: Just talked to the shop, y'all know the drill - part A failed, which caused part B to go out, taking part C with it, eventually adding up to $$$. UUUGGHHH! All in all, I'm lucky it didn't happen on my way in to work this morning @ the crack of dawn. SOOO, I'm stuck @ home, fielding work via email & the phone. There will be a stiff umbrella drink in my future tonight!

Which got me to thinking....Kathy - as you're prepping Kyle for the move to BR, make sure he has a local contact or two in case something like this happens to him. He's welcome to keep my # on hand if necessary. I do have the name of an trustworthy independent auto shop if needed as well. Also, have him familiarize himself with some of the alternate routes around town / school for those inevitable flash floods that come with the deluges. I've had some good friends "float" their cars , and I know it's something you don't need to worry about (although I know you will :upsidedow)!

:banana:The banana seemed like an appropriate symbol for Shovan diving at her husband. Husbands like that;).

Good thing it didn't break down this morning!! Don't you hate having to spend money on stuff like this?

The emergency clinic the vet patches their phone system through was in Metairie; they gave me a number to a Westbank emergency clinic - who opens at 6 (an hour later). But really?!? Metairie? At RUSH HOUR? From HERE? :scared:

In what area do you live?

Yes, between google and calling some friends, I was able to find out how much to give her...1 mg per pound. A teaspoon is 12.5 mg, so 1/2 teaspoon for Anabelle! And I like to think I kept it together...I guess working at that school in the Bronx was good for something. :lmao:

 :scared1: :rotfl2:

I PM'ed you.

Hey y'all, I'm getting a slow start today. I need to get a move on DD is going to take me out of the house! :cool1 (for lunch)

Terry, I'm sorry you had to make that decision, it's a hard one.

:
Even a person without CFS would be exhausted after the emotional upheaval you've had recently. Give yourself time to recuperate. That September trip's just around the corner, and you can't be too tired to enjoy it!

Tricia, I second M's recommedations. I hope you have some down time to rest.

And, yeah, I did read her explaining away the fussin'. I figure she must be feeling a heck of a lot better to react so quickly!

Now you know living down here, that swatting at roaches is 2nd nature!

Bethany, Is Annabelle all better today?

Kat, Still praying for your SIL. :flower3:

M, We've had that happen on one of cars before! Frustrating & too darn expensive!:headache::hug:

Now you know living down here, that swatting at roaches is 2nd nature!

Bethany, Is Annabelle all better today?

In New York I gave up swatting at them. :headache: It was a lost cause. :sad2: Down here I just get a handful of cricket when picking up my shoes. :scared:

Yup, Anabelle is all better! :woohoo: I called the vet; they put a note in her file about it. I don't need to bring her in.

How are YOU feeling today, aside from that slow start?

Kathy - How are things with your SIL? And how are you holding up?

Gang, I just realized Kat didn't drop by today. I'm going check out WFD to see if she posted there.

I hope everythings's OK - that's not like her.

Glad to hear she's better, I was worried about her.

Sorry about the car problems but glad it didn't happen this am. I REALLY appreciate your suggestion for Kyle. I thought I had your number but I don't see it on our emergency list. Could you please pm me with it and we'd love the number for the auto shop when you have time. I can't tell you how much better I feel knowing there is an adult available to him if needed.

 That seriously has me laughing. I know she's feeling better, but is she feeling THAT better ?!?!?! :rolleyes1

That's too funny.....

Hey guys, no update on SIL yet today, haven't seen the Dr. Thanks so much for all of your thoughts and prayers, it's been a tough day for Johnny. Melissa is refusing to see anyone today. I didn't realize how going back into a hospital would get to me. I spent so many years there with M&D, nurses are coming up to me and asking how I am, really strange feeling.

:faint::hyper2:
I totally hear you. I remember my last breakdown VIVIDLY. And it was over nothing. Well, lots of accumulated stress, and time ticking down... I was holding Louie's leg (the orange cat) to draw blood to check his blood sugar (b/c his diabetes was flaring up - more stress!). He pulled his arm out of my hand (not abnormal at all for a cat blood draw) and I just lost it. Tears like you wouldn't believe.

Take all the time you need. Check in when you can.

Cara.....my friend it will be ok. I too have those days..i am here for you.

Cara, I'm sorry you are feeling so blue! I wish I had something to say to make you feel better. I am impressed that you are working on the getting your routine back in shape. At least you're thinking about it & getting mentally prepared. I usually realize it way too late & then have a serious panic attack!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the words of kindness more than you know. I am starting to feel better. I have accepted some things that I can't change and worked to rectify what I can change... so I feel a ton better. Not as overwhelmed.

It's been unusually quiet for a while, maybe our thread is dying.:sad1:
Um... no.. I leave for a few hours and this thing EXPLODED!

And of all the clique threads on these boards, only a few are based solely on LOCATION. That right there is something special

I think rie'smom is right. I am blessed to get 6+ weeks off for the summer, and I tend to squander the mid-portion of it and then when I realize I'm running out of time, I go "oh dear!" (well, it's not quite THAT word :rolleyes1) and scramble to get my summer to-do list done. And that to-do list starts growing in September so it tends to be a BIG LIST. Additionally, there's always anxiety and nerves starting up a school year. How you act as a teacher the first few days and weeks sets the tone for the following 9-10 months. If you biff, you pay for it for a LONG TIME. Not to mention, this year I'm in a new state, school, and job title.

Rie'smom - I'm sorry you're dealing with so much right now. Don't feel bad to come here for support when you need it.
Very well said Bethany.. but you are going to be great so don't fret.

Julie, I am sorry too... please dump on us if you need us.

I still haven't been to POC, we need to do something about that!!!!!!;)

POC=Yummy! We are gonna have to fix that for you Kat.

Well we have a mini-mini-group going in Oct. Kat 17-21 (I think) Me 15th-22nd, Lori/BeadPirate will also be there just that weekend I think.

But you can't convince me to go anywhere & pitch a tent! I am not a tent-pitching girl.

How bout if I pitch the tent? Just kidding Sheryl... just kidding... even though I do enjoy camping provided the weather is mild.. I can't picture it at WDW.

First things first:

1. :hug:to all who need extra thoughts, well wishes, better health and prayers

2. WHAT:scared1: are you talking about?????? This thread DIE-NOOOOOO!!!!! You will be my home away from home!!!! NO to thread death, NO.

3.

me neither! And i LOVE a good juicy bad for me burger!!! with cheese too!

4. Space Center Houston: 2 thoughts on it-half educational and half very big loud Chuck E Cheese. Part of me felt like the government has to dumb things down for kids to enjoy space and science. I mean, we had a blast of a day, but it was wierd how half was COMPLETELY immersing you in history and awesome facts and educating kids without knowing it(something I enjoy!) and half was play areas. I did not pay $55 for my kids to play in the ball pit or slide. I had it in my head , almost, to forbid the "play ground", but they did burn off energy. Not that they needed too.

I do think they took some of Disney ideas on crowd control, but line control was another thing-and it was hot, and I have a feeling that we experienced a bit of what we will in September in WDW. Lines, heat. At least WDW has the line control down for as little complaining by people as possible. Hot people standing in line for an hour makes for complaining by some inpatient customers!!! The heat index was 108, accding to the space center.

It has been more quiet, but NO thread death!!!!

Lori
On your 4. I have never been to Houston, however, I can speak about Cape Canaveral. Once upon a time it was just a little place with a few exhibits and a whole lot of science and history and even better than that.. it was FREE unless you opted to pay $5 for a tour of the whole space center including launch pads and a set up of mission control in Houston or $1.50 for an IMAX movie (this is in the early 90's)... Then Disney built a cruise line and NASA hired a company to get the tourist dollars so basically now charge $50 and you get the same amount of knowledge plus a ton of fluff.
Good morning:goodvibes

Julie and Cara, I hope ya'll have a better day than yesterday. Please feel to talk about whatever you're feeling. You won't bring me down.

It is very quiet around here this morning. The dogs are laying around and the teenagers are still sleeping.

I will be in WDW from September 24 - 28 celebrating our 20th wedding annivesary. We are going with another couple who are also celebrating their 20th:)

If anyone has any suggestions for Food and Wine Festival, I'll take them. I've never been before for this.

BTW, my daughter is not happy about us going to WDW without her. My friend who is going with us, told her kids it was just the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival she was going to and they were okay with that. That line is not working with Erica.

We were going to surprise them, as part of their Christmas present, with a trip to Disneyland for Mardi Gras, but I might have to tell her sooner than that.

Thanks Mary.
I think you should wait until Christmas to tell them. I always was disapointed to figure out what my presents were before time (even though I did a fair amount of fishing for info). That sounds like an incredible present too...

As far as going without them. My parents left us for a short weekend trip and stayed at the Swan shortly after it opened. We were really upset about being left, but we did eventually forgive them (something about a treat from the bakery in France I do believe). I how you feel and you don't like them to be upset so it is hard for you... but don't let that bring you down... you need to celebrate.

I have been to Food and Wine many times, but never understood that it was a big deal (cringing for the :scared1: wrath of Kat and Sheryl). In my defense I was not old enough for the wine...

Hey y'all I'm asking for prayers, here's a little background. Three years ago my sister-in-law lost her son at age 19 to drugs. Within a year she and her husband divorced and she was drinking heavily and on pain pills. She is now dying, her liver is shot. From what the doctors told us a little while ago she doesn't have much time so please keep her in your prayers.

You got it.. I am so sorry to hear this.
Kathy- She is in my prayers:hug:. I have had many nights I thought about losing Ashton, and I will tell you that HALEY would be the only reason I would keep going. And I probably would smother her-and she'd need therapy one day. I have thought it out. My heart GREIVES for anyone who loses a child, young or old, it is still your baby. I hopw this doesn't sound mean, but even when my MIL lost her son in 2/08, I felt more grief for her than I did for his wife. I mean, I felt bad for her, but maybe I could just "get" it from a mom standpoint better. I used to have nightmares about losing Ash.

Lori
What is the quote, a wife/husband can always get another spouse but a mother can't get another child. Something to that effect. I hope to never have to bury a child either. I love them too much....

TGIF NOLA!

Well add me to the feeling down in the dumps category...i won't and can't go into the details without fear of :sad1: but I have broken off a friendship which was very important to me but had to end due to my sanity. This too shall pass. :sad1: :sad1:
 sorry you are feeling blue too.

Hi Cara! Yes, I am feeling better. Accumulated stress can knock you right on your patoot. My biggest problem is having to accept that I cannot fix everything. Sometimes my brain has to say, "Whoa" and make me slow down so that I can remember that fact. Plenty of rest helps me. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you guys for your encouragement. Man I feel as though I have lost a big part of my life....sorry guys I will be ok; I just needed to tell someone how I'm feeling. Gotta be sure I take my lexapro tonight.

5 pm? Yeah, still at work. We weren't even beginning to slow down at 5pm. You (any of you) can use my number from the thread's emergency contact list if you ever need it for animal care. Even if I can't answer your doggie question, my doc's been practicing for over 30 years, so she has alot of knowledge AND wisdom, and is always happy to answer any question.

The emergency clinic the vet patches their phone system through was in Metairie; they gave me a number to a Westbank emergency clinic - who opens at 6 (an hour later). But really?!? Metairie? At RUSH HOUR? From HERE? :scared:

Yeah, rush hour and Metairie, it'd be faster to wait the hour for the emergency clinic to open at 6! Luckily we are close to two emergency clinics, so we have the luxury of setting our hours so that any time we are closed there is an emergency clinic open.

I know you called and they put a note in her file, but find out what she received and keep it for your own records. You never know what might happen that the notation would be missed. You want to know for yourself which vaccines she got so you can be on the look out.

If this was our patient that had the reaction we would recommend:
Never giving more than one vaccine at a time.
Separate each necessary vaccine by at least three weeks.
Premedicate with benadryl injection by at least 15 minutes before each vaccine.
Only give necessary vaccines. There are some optional vaccines based on life-style and exposure. Avoid them if possible.

That is all really good advice! Thanks Jamie! I really think you need to make sure you know what she was allergic too.. having it in her file isn't enough these days. Sometimes files take a swim around here... even in the electronic form it can take a bit to find out where the info went. So be safe, not sorry, and keep it with your important papers just in case (that we hope is never needed)

Arminnie: I hope that you are getting the rest you need. You have been through a lot in the last few months!

I don't know how I missed that comment this morning!!! :rotfl2:

 That seriously has me laughing. I know she's feeling better, but is she feeling THAT better ?!?!?! :rolleyes1

No I am not feeling THAT much better! In fact I don't think I EVER felt like that! DIVING :lmao::rotfl2:

Cara, I'm glad you are feeling a bit better.

Terry, Glad that you feel you can lean on us. I wish I could more than just listen. I'm sending prayers :flower3: &

Terry- the narrow path isn't always the easiest, lots of love to you

Cara- glad you are getting it all worked out

We are rethinking area if I didn't say so already-Conroe instead of Cypress-b/c of less major interstate to get there, so we'll see.

I am sorta excited as DH wants me home after we move, but I am still unsure we can swing that. I think he is somewhat delusional;), but whatever works for us is what I will do. The only thing we DO know is that we will continue to homeschool.

oh, a funny call yesterday:
me- "hello"
female person- "uh, yeah, I am calling about the house for sale"

~uncomfy pause~

me-"what would you like to know?"
person-"how much are you asking?"
me-"$158000"
person-"I'll call you back when I have the money"

CLICK:rotfl:

DH and I were cracking up laughing!

I think we are showing it this weekend!

Lori

I totally agree with you here. The accumulated stress was a big issue for me in NYC. There are times I have to remind myself "this does NOT fall into the 'I can control this' category" and just let it go. Much easier said than done...

Yikes. That's always scary. Good job keeping your head about you.

Thank you for this! I am going to do the things you mentioned. My to do list today involves organizing my desk; Anabelle is getting a file in the box and this stuff is going in it!

Good point. And :headache: on the swimming. Like, I KNOW that could happen but I don't quite "get" what all that entails.

I am not familiar AT ALL with the Houston area, but your reasoning for choosing location sounds good. :thumbsup2 I will have to whip out Google maps at some point.

That phone call was funny. Too bad you didn't get to ask what her estimated time line was for calling you back. :lmao:

Hey - going through the attic, steaming the carpets, going to a birthday today.

My kids are 9 and 11, almost 10 and 12, and we are JUST NOW getting rid of the bassinet, bedding and all those plastic toys I had been hanging on to.
