Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Good morning NOLA! :goodvibes

Lori - I had an old pair of shoes that I was wearing to/from work in NYC. One day, on the way home, I was walking from work to the train and the sole of one shoe just fell off! I had to run into Rite Aid to buy superglue, then into Burger King so I could sit down to glue my shoe together so I could get home. :rotfl: Later somebody told me it was likely dry rot. Who knew? :confused3

I am so tempted to come to your garage sale ... even though I don't really need anything!

Lori - That phone call was hysterical......:rotfl:

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Tricia (GW) hasn't been around in a while.

Gang today was a very stressful day for me. My BFF's husband and 2 of his friends were fishing and the boat overturned in Lafette. She called me all hysterical telling me he was missing. She found a stranger to help her search for them and was able to find them before the Coast Guard got there
....Thank goodness it was only in 5 feet of water. Several waves came over the boat, the motor stalled then sank. It was 100 yards to the shore and they were able to walk to it.

Did you realize calling 911 does not help if your boat overturns...you have to call the Coast Guard yourself :sad2:

Man life is too short so please tell your friends how much you love and appreciate them. :)

You are so right, too short. Your poor BFF, my heart sank reading this. Thank God everyone was safe.

Thank God they were ok! Thanks for the reminder. My sons hunt and/or fish all year long.

Ms Terry, Thank God they were found! Somebody was watching out for them.

Just a quick check in for me. We went to church today, then out to eat with family. Which was nice, but we went to Chili's and it took 2 1/2 hrs, really really bad service.

Anyway I wanted to make sure everyone knew that the Disney Christmas Carol Train will be here next weekend. It will be at the riverside section of Audubon Park. Here's the link for more info:

So the Times-Picayune apparently does a monthly photo contest. Well, this month it is to take pictures of Katrina damage. Your prize if you win? A waterproof camera. :headache:

Sheryl - I'm glad you got out of the house again! You must be starting to feel a lot better?

And thanks for the reminder about the train. I'm not sure if I will go or not.

hey all - went to Natchitoches to help this weekend (my high school) and got sick the morning of all the work :( had a lot of fun reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. we stayed in the dorms where I stayed my senior year - Grayce got to stay with a friend of mine's daughter who showed up at the last minute. they had "their" own room in our suite...so she had a friend to hang with and mom could also hang with friends. we took a nostalgic walk around the campus at night reminiscing about a lot of teenager hangout places with your special one :rolleyes1 which was just a riot all around as we ranged from 40 to newly graduated....amazing what stays the same through the years! i am not used to late nights but it was fun. I was old enough to be some of theirs' mother.... :scared1:

so I was sad reading about the thread losing steam, then I came back and had to read oodles of pages! Hugs to all who have been going through a lot...I ma having some issues with things that aren't printable here. I do read every chance I get and pray for all the issues posted. I am always struggling to think of something witty to say that hasn't been said already when people post things..so hope you don't think I am ignoring anyone ! I have a lot on my plate and need to take Cara's wise advise...just not sure what or how to start. :confused3 have a great week!

have had it on my calendar several months...

One of the other forums I'm on has started to type in French. :headache: I think I'm about done over there. Stick a fork in me.

I've had it on my calendar, but I'm not sure about going. It helps that it's free, but I don't know that I can be that close to the zoo and not go in! Is anyone thinking of going? I'd have to go on Sunday, of course.

:headache: indeed. Honestly. The ironic thing is we actually have pictures of photos with Katrina damage. Dozens and dozens all laid out in front of the apartment in Houma. My mom was trying to "save" them. Riiiiight. :sad2:

Weird. Was this a random "hey I'll type in French today"? I guess you could muddle your way through and translate, but that's alot of work for forum babble.

Anyone get called to pick up your painted plate yet? I can't wait to see them all shiny and colorful. They look so muted and dull before the glaze. I suggested to my boss that we go do this for our x-mas party this year. Oh, that reminds me, I need to e-mail her the website. Last year we went to Celebration in the Oaks, but it was tough b/c everybody likes to move at a different pace. The year before that we went bowling at Rock and Bowl. It was fun enough, but we were all sore the next day! :rotfl: You'd think wrestling big bad cats all day would have conditioned us for some silly old bowling balls! :rotfl:

I don't know if I'm going to go to the train thing or not. I've read reviews on here from people who've gone in other cities; it sounds like it can be a LONG wait. I start work that Monday after, so I'll see how I'm feeling about it.

The T-P is also giving the top 10 winners a free framed 8x10 of their photo. The #1 winner gets a 16x20 framed copy of their photo. :headache: Just what everybody wants. I think the prizes are standard and the topic changes monthly, but geez! :sad2:

The other forum has some people from Quebec, and yes, it just started randomly a few days ago. I've gotten tired of asking for translations. I find it a little strange that 4 or so people are having side conversations in another language, but whatever. The odd thing is that I can actually understand a lot of it. :confused3

No, I haven't gotten my plate yet. I think they said it could take up to 2 weeks before they're ready. I may wait until I'm back over that way on the 28th...I don't know. I'm quite decisive this morning, no?

So today is going to be spent trying to get the last bits of my to do list done. I'm hoping I have time to get some work on my scrapbook too this week.

I had never heard of this. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey y'all!

We did some shopping for stuff for Kyle's apartment this weekend, bittersweet to say the least. I'm really excited for him but so sad at the same time.

Busy today, hospital then dentist.....bbl......

Hi everyone. It is a Monday, I actually have to work tonight:sad2:. The beginning of the end for me. Now I can't wait until August 20th since that is the first day for my boys and less stress for me as far as where they are going while I have work days and they don't have school days.

Thanks for the link Sheryl. I am bringing my kids on Friday and then we are going to spend the afternoon in the zoo. That is our big end of summer bang.

Kat, that sure is scary, what happened to your friend. I did know that you have to call the Coast Guard and not 911, seems kinda silly if you ask me. I don't know if I told you guys this story when it happened. My sister and BIL own a boat and decided to take it out back around Easter. Once they got out on the Indian River, they decided it was such a nice day and to head out into the ocean to go fishing so they headed down to the inlet and about 3/4 miles into the Atlantic they ran out of gas (at which point my sister remembered they hadn't gassed up the boat in a long long time). They had to call the coast guard who contract with someone to bring 10 gallons of fuel... the cost $500!:scared1: I am very grateful they were never in any danger... but another good lesson of making sure there is plenty of gas in your boat.
