Metal Detectors in Parks?

Just wondering, wouldn't you prefer that people ask questions....What if a simple question could prevent a massive terrorist attack? Please don't get angry when a question makes some people a little uneasy....better safe than sorry :thumbsup2

I don't agree with the "better safe than sorry" mind set. All it does is make us live our lives in fear. There is a big difference between asking thoughtful questions and seeing the boogie man everywhere you go.

FWIW, I have a plate in my leg. The only time it is detected is when I am wanded by TSA.

I have to agree with Preppy Poly mom about her getting defensive because people jump on you. I edited my post to make sure she did not think I thought she had some evil plot, just for the reason she mentioned. I didn't want her to think I was jumping down her throat.

When I said it made me uncomfortable and then put the "guilty" smiley it was because it makes me sad that we live in times where such a question WOULD make me uncomfortable.

Apparently, now I am an unfeeling jerk who has no thought for people who may have metal plates. I have somewhat enjoyed being on the DIS...many nice people here. But my excitement for my trip has been dampened....I posted a while ago on the CB about how I feel like a criminal now for doing things like breastfeeding at WDW. Also, I feel like we will miss alot of magic because I see so much "I want" and "how do I get" and I am sure the CM's arent too jazzed about people demanding things that before were "extra" surprises.

I have seen alot of things on here that really reduced my excitement. And of course, I made a comment about something, tried to make sure I was not being rude, but still got treated like I attacked the OP or something. :sad2:

I have a couple of days til I leave...I think I'll skip the boards til then.

And OP- My DH served in the first GW and he and I would both like to thank your DH for his service to our nation and also to offer our best wishes that you have a magical trip with your kids. I don't know if you have seen any posts about the flag ceremony at MK for vets. I have seen others post that it is a moving experience for vets to participate in. Just thought it might be something your DH would like to try. Mine is iffy...he doesn't like people looking at him :confused3 I hope you weren't offended by my post, as I said, it was more a comment on how sad it was that right away my radar went up on what was probably an innocent question. :guilty:

No Princess I am not sad or hurt by you. You are a doll, don't worry. I hope you have a nice trip. I was getting kinda down too about some of the negative posts. I wasn't aware of the Flag ceremony, me and DH will have to do some research on that. Thanks! Take care,

:grouphug:

From AllEARS: Watch the clock -- daily at 5 p.m. there's a Flag Retreat in the Town Square, complete with grandeur of a snazzy color guard. Thursday through Monday, the Main Street Philharmonic also performs. If you are a veteran, inquire at City Hall about assisting in this special flag-lowering ceremony.

Cool, but I wonder if DH will have to be in uniform, I don't think he would want to bring it on vaca and wear it in August heat. If not, he probably would like to do it. :yay:

You know, it's interesting to note that although Disney searches bags, they do not screen people. I have a son who is a police officer and a son-in-law who is an FBI agent and both carry a gun at all times. You would never know it by looking at them. They carry summer and winter, concealed. Who says the bad guys can't do the same! Not that I'm paranoid or anything!

NOW this is REALLY SCARY! :scared1:

Do they show some sort of ID? I can't image ANYONE in this day & age going through any type of Security Procedure with a GUN ...and are let right through!

I didnt even think Cops can carry guns out of the state they serve or on airplanes.

As far as I know, guns cannot be carried on airplanes by anyone. They must be locked in a case, unloaded, and checked. There is some info on the TSA site about this. I am positive you cannot carry on ammunition, not sure if you can even check it in a bag.

There may be some kind of exception for Marshals or FBI, but I would assume they could only carry if traveling in an official capacity. I don't know about carrying out of state though??
