Mentally Preparing: A Focker, A Croc & Waldo hit POFQ! Trip Report Link is UP!

Hey, can I join in the fun ?? Wow 47 pages and she hasn't left yet.
You guys are so funny.
I have heard so many people talking about how they love their crocs. My boys have a pair but I don't know if I would like them.. do they make your feet sweat? I have become kinda attached to my "tenni shoes" .

BTW: Until 2 years ago I lived in New Orleans.. so here's some N'awlins lingo for ya.

A long sandwich on french bread w/lots of meat = PoBoy

cooler= ice chest

What kind of sale do you have on a front lawn? == garage sale

bubbly carbonated drink = soft drink

sauce to go on top of spaghetti = Red gravy

the thing you push when you're "makin' groceries" = buggy

thats all I can think of now.. Oh does anybody eat grits for breakfast??

Well bless your pea pickin heart! Of course we eat grits for breakfast. And shop for them with a buggy!

Now that is funny---they are called YARD sales here even if you put your stuff in the garage in case in rains. In Connecticut, they were always TAG sales--mom thought that was just too strange.

All of these translations make me think of a funny story.....

We were visiting some friends near Panama Beach, Fl, which they refer to as Southern Alabama. I went to the grocery store to pick up a few items and the sacker asked me, "Ma'am, can aye take yer bugg-eh?" "Excuse me?" I questioned. The checkout lady looked at me and said, "Sha wants yer bugg-eh." Again with the sacker, "yer bugg-eh?" I then reply, "I am so sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about." She grabs it and shakes it..."YER BUGG-EH!!!" OHHHHHHHH.....

I still get a good laugh out of that one!!!

Well after I realized what the heck she was talkin' about I gave her, her goshed dern bugg-eh!!!

Did she tell you to have a blessed day? Or just mumble something about these young whipper snappers?

I've been in SC for 8 years and still stand out when shopping because I refuse to call it a buggy. It's a CART!

Of course, I'm thinking of throwing them all off by using Jo's term and calling it a TROLLEY. That'll stump 'em.

:lmao: That's awesome! I must say, my mother befriended a lvoely Southern woman in Buffalo and she introduced us to grits and greens, among other delicacies. That there's some mighty fine vittels, I tell you! Love me some cheesy grits :)

I had a similar communication breakdown at Chimney Rock park in NC. I can't remember what excatly the conversation was, but I felt like a total idiot because I could not figure out what this woman was saying to me!

On a semi-related note... my otherwise sketchy verbal French becomes downright fluent after a couple drinks. :confused3

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I don't really like grits. BUT do know that we always have some in the pantry.

Those NC mountain folk have their own language that even I can't understand!

Me too! I can spout off all kinds of French and Spanish stuff....then I get confused and speak about 3 languages in one sentence.

Oh, I feel so much better, now! it really is like another language... and I stood there thinking "I KNOW she's speaking English, but I feel like I need a translater!"

Oh boy, we ought to be a trip come Aug.! :rotfl2: And the best part? I beocme nearly fluent in speaking French, but can't understand a lick!

From my hometown of Buffalo... keep in mind I'm going from 15 years ago!:

tennis shoes= sneakers
pop/shank=punch
coke/pop=pop
alcoholic beverage=beer
cigarettes=smokes (as in "Can I bum a smoke?")
suckers=suckers
kleenex=kleenex
shopping cart=shopping cart
all of you people=You's

Sorry D_Mama - we've completely hijacked your thread, haven't we? I'll stop now....

And here I was - although a bit late - getting ready to pipe in with you's... but I never used "pop" it was always "soda"...BUT I order a Jack & Coke...

And not for nothin', but I got laughed out of my WW meeting for admitting I drink milk & pepsi...:sad2:

At the advice of DIS friend, LexMelinda, I read the recent TR installment of Zzub and his "experience" at Teppanyaki. :scared: Let's just say, his evening at Epcot was spent touring the restrooms of World Showcase. :rolleyes: So with this knowledge and knowing what a sensitive stomach Daisy has, I made a back-up ADR for the 29th. Since I plan on booking an Illuminations Cruise for that night, I thought we'd try Spoodles, which is at the Boardwalk. I've read some decent reviews and I love Mediterreanian food, so I thought we'd try it. :confused3 Let's see, that's ADR change #8, in case you're keeping track.

#9:
Now, looking over our itinerary, I realize I booked us for breakfast @ the Crystal Palace on our last day at 8am. Our flight leaves at 2pm, and ME will pick us up around 11 am. Is this wise? Would 2.5 hrs. be enough time to eat, take some Photopass pictures, buy the photopass CD and make it back to the POFQ by 10:30am? What if we're tired? What if, what if, what if? We'll have 1 TS left and if we had scored free dining, I wouldn't have minded not using it, but since I'm paying for dining, we're using ALL our credits, baby!
So just in case, I made a back-up ADR for Boatwrights for breakfast on our last day. Then we can either boat over to DTD for some last minute shopping before we head back to LA.

I've been reading Dining reviews on Hollywood & Vine, and I have to admit, I'm a little weary about our breakfast there. Yes, they have the Little Einsteins, Evan's favorites characters, but they can always meet the Leo and June on the Mickey Avenue, yes? I'm waiting for V to dine there and based on her experience and recommendation, I'll either keep it or toss it. Well, in place of H&V, I've booked a back-up lunch at Mama Melrose. Tomato and Mozzarella is my favorite salad, so Mama's it is! :thumbsup2

I never tell anyone that I'm making changes, I just do it. Well, DH saw me frantically scribbling in my lime notebook and looking at our Daily WDW Itinerary, so he asked what I was changing. I started with "Well, I made back-up ADR's for this, this and this..... yada yada yada." Bwhahahahaha!!! He was so sorry he asked!!! :lmao:

I almost ALWAYS make back-up ADRs (particularly this last time when traveling with extended family)--ya just never know when the "too much togetherness" thing wears thin.........actually I do know.......around Day 2!:lmao:

Regarding Mama Melrose----DH said NOT to book there again. The food was good but our 7pm ADR (arrival time of 6:45 pm) failed to get us SEATED until 8:20 thus ruining the plan of Fantasmic. Probably less crowded at lunch (and this was spring break).

We loved the Brown Derby for lunch on another day and would go back there! (sent the rest of the extended family that had my 4 yo niece to the H and V show and she liked it)

Great idea :rotfl2:

Oh no we're booked there, we went last trip and enjoyed it and kept it all down! Didn't realise you were buying the DDP I know this is such a silly question, oh mighty planner, but you have seen the snack thread haven't you :thumbsup2

JO!!!! Did you miss the whole "We're not getting free dining" fiasco??? Are you smoking funny tea leaves over there?? :lmao: Since we didn't get free dining, we'll have to pay for it, silly!

But, yes, I did see the snack thread and I've got it all spreadsheeted out (is that a word?? V??) by park. :thumbsup2

DM-
I think it is a good idea to have some backups with those ADR's. Smart thinkin on your part!:thumbsup2

We eat at H&V every year and this last time we went for breakfast. I really was not impressed and I wasn't to thrilled about having to get up early for it. Maddie was not too into it either. She just wanted the characters to leaver her alone so she could color.:rotfl: I think she was character-mealed out at that point.

IMO (not that you were asking for it:rotfl: ), I'd go with Mama's.
