Men and High Tea question

I really want to go to the Grand Floridian for tea in our December trip. My husband said he would do it for me even though he really doesn't like some of the tea sandwiches. My question is are there many men that go? I do not want him to feel to out of place. Also will they substitute some sandwiches for others? Thanks

I never see many men in there - but then, I never see very many of any kind of person in there. It's a pretty quiet place most of the time.

That being said, I have taken my male travelmate several times, and he's never felt like it was too girly or like he was out of place. He likes the duck terrine and the pate in the gentleman's tea package.

As for substituting sandwiches, within reason they have always been quite accomodating. My mother hates watercress and has often received another of a different type in its place on her plate, not even because she asked for it but usually just because she tells the waitress that she does not want the watercress one. To make it simpler (and less likely to go wrong) perhaps he could figure out ahead of thime which one or two kinds he wants most and ask for only those, instead of trying to explain/work out a sandwich-for-sandwich exchange? Like ask the waitress 'could I have only chicken salad sandwiches, please?' The easier the request, the more likely it will be fulfilled is always my experience in general when dining with a server.

I asked the server the last time my daughter and I did it if men ever came (I had never seen any in there) and she said they sure do...but my DH would leave there starving, I know that for a fact. Those little sandwiches are great to me but he'd have to go eat after we left there!

DH went with me last April and he enjoyed it as much as I did...he said he would go again but he wants just desserts and strawberries with cream, the sandwiches were not his fave.

There was alot of men and some kids there too, we came right from the park so we were in shorts and tees and that was fine

Your husband doesn't have to get sandwiches. You can order scones, pastries, trifle, lemon cake, strawberries & cream, a cheese plate, all sorts of things, in any combination you'd like.

I've done the GF tea many time, and I've yet to have a tea sandwich. I usually get the Sally Lunn tea, which includes toasted bread with apricot preserves, and your choice of trifle or strawberries and cream. Or, I just order the scones.

my husband goes with me to afternoon tea whenever I ask him to ... he's even comfortable enough with his masculinity to order a Jamaican herbal tea that brews up pink.

We see plenty of couples in the gardenview lounge when we have tea. One time I saw a gentleman there by himself. It's a lovely afternoon break - plenty of people, both male and female, enjoy the experience.

I thought about dragging...umm...I mean, inviting.... my husband and two sons (early 20s) to tea, figuring I'd sell it as a nice snack before dinner

But then I thought read that it's not uncommon to see lots of single women (as in, no companion with them) and often they sit these women so that they can enjoy some girly chatter amongst themselves. Does anyone know if this is in fact right? I wouldn't mind ditching the 3 guys for a couple of hours - 13 days with no other female to talk to might get to me after a while

Slightly off-topic but, if my husband was convinced to join me are there any kids activities nearby at approximately the same time? My 4 yo DD and then 7 yo DS would enjoy the pirate cruise I am sure but, that is earlier in the day...We never usually separate on vacation but, the tea seems so enjoyable and a relatively brief time for my husband and I to be alone. Ofcourse I could take one of my children (after pleading with them to be on their best behavior) while my husband takes the other one to do something fun. I think both of them together at the tea would be pushing my luck :. They are ussually fine but, considering the setting -quite honestly I would be so anxious that they behave that I may not enjoy myself so much. Any suggestions?

I went with my dw and niece, to high tea in Feb 09.
With so many teas to choose from, I asked the server what tea she would recommend with what I had ordered, she was quick to respond and her choice of the tea I had was 1st rate. I did not feel out of place, there were other men there. Would go again !!!!

Tell him if he goes with you you'll take him for pizza & a six-pack afterwards.
Also, 4 or 5 of those little airplane bottles of booze make any tea "Long Island Tea"

It's called Prince Edward's Tea. Here's a description from the menu:

You guys are so lucky, my hubby flat out refused to go. i was shocked because he is usually very open minded about trying new things. Guess tea with little finger sandwiches and scones just isn't his thing.
