Memories of the DREAM come true ….. 08/09 All 30 days done!

Your breakfast looks great! I am so sad we never made it to RP for lunch or breakfast but it is so hard to squeeze things in on a 3 night trip. We need to do a back to back or weeklong at least.

I miss those pretty blue waters.

I am loving all the shots of the Dream itself. But I have another cruise question...what are the Fish Extender gifts?

Gorgeous shots! That water is so blue. It looks so pretty as I sit here and see snow out my back window.

The blue waters are what we are looking forward to most! It is so pretty - I could look at it all day long (if there weren't too many food distractions! :rotfl2:)

Diane, I know what you mean about 3 nights are too short!
Our first cruise was a 4 day and there were things we were sure to be able to fit in and never got around to.
Now, guess what - in 2011 we spent 11 nights during our 3 back to backs and me missed A LOT of things too! There is never enough time in a Disney vacation for us!
But, when you go back PLEASE try RP for lunch and breakfast - best ever! :thumbsup2

I am loving all the shots of the Dream itself. But I have another cruise question...what are the Fish Extender gifts?

We took so many photos during our cruises last summer - most of them are the same area - different angles. :rotfl2:
I wasn't quite sure if you asked about the gifts we received or FEs in general, but the gifts we got were a bag of sweets, the egg shaped divers are just cute knick-knacks and the third ones are magnets.
If you wanted to know about FEs in general - it is like a secret Santa kind of thing. Once you join your cruise thread there is almost always a FE sign up. You sign up and then bring a (some) presents for every cabin (or person) on the list and secretly deliver them. So whenever you return to your stateroom you will find a cute little surprise in your extender.
Oh, and here's a photo of our extender ;)

(I wanted to do one that showed where we were from. ;))

Yes, we are on the dream again, Karin - but five nights this time! We are definitely planning on RP for at least one breakfast and lunch this time - we never made it last time. The food looks lovely in your photos!

:woohoo: a double dip! :woohoo:
I hope you do a little trip report on it, we are doing a double dip in August as part of our back to back and I could use a little advice! :goodvibes
You really have to check out RP for breakfast and lunch - the eggs benedict are heaven and the pineapple french toast stack is SOOOOOOO good!
Give it a try for me too!
Any tastings planned? The champagne tasting is fun and so is the Martini tasting and the .............. :rotfl2: am I giving to much away???????

It would be rude not to, seeing as we had so much fun last time! :cool1:

We may do the champagne - we did martini back in August and that was fun - but I think it was the company that made the wine tasting special! :thumbsup2

Nassau looks beautiful! I love the FE gifts too. the divers cracked me up. :rotfl2:

I really like the view of Nassau from the ship, all those nice colours, but the town itself lacks sights. We have done a few excursions and walked around town, but you are done within a day.
So, not going into Nassau (or not going for too long) leaves more time explore the ship! :thumbsup2

Yes, those tastings are fun - last year's wine tasting was the best! VERY special!
You will love the champagne tasting - Pink is such a nice setting for it and the different kinds of bubbly they will let you taste are amazing (apart from the first one, which was the Rosa Regale - which I do NOT like at all! :lmao:)

I think I remember that this is your second Disney cruise - so ......... welcome back, Castaway Club members - silver lanyards for you this time! :thumbsup2

Day 10, August 22

Nassau – take 1! - Part 2

So we packed our IDs and some cash and headed towards deck 1 to disembark.
Once outside the heat hit us and we had to dig for our sunglasses. We slowly walked toward the customs house

IMG_1186.jpg

and once inside we looked at the merchandise they offered which had not changed from the last time we had been there.

IMG_1183-1.jpg

We walked outside and were greeted by all the vendors offering stuff and rides to various parts of the island. We didn't need any of it as we just wanted to walk around town a little

DSC_0855.jpg

and pick up a few rum cakes and some flavoured rum.
So once we left the harbour area we turned left and walked towards the Tortuga rum company. There is a supermarket on the opposite side and we walked through to browse and did find a few things we wanted to buy lateron. Next up we walked to the main shopping street and took a little stroll,

walked into some of the shops to have a look and then headed towards the Bacardi store. From the distance it looked a bit sad and we just couldn't put our finger on it, but on getting closer we could see that the building had been deserted, part of it had been torn down and the shop had been closed. So we had to make our way back towards the straw market, where we had seen another Bacardi store. It was very hot and we walked very slowly, but we finally made it to the store.

It was considerably smaller than the one we had just been at, but at least it was open. Tom didn't find anything he truly liked at first sight, so we walked back, did a little shopping at the supermarket and then walked over to the Tortuga rum shop and stocked up on rum cakes and some flavoured rum for Tom. By then it was midday and it was very hot out on the street.

So we very slowly made our way back to the ship and enjoyed the air conditioning on board. When we were back at our stateroom we were happy to find that it had been serviced and once out on the veranda we found them still doing their lifeboat drill.
We chilled for a little while having a look at all the loot we had found in our Fish Extender

on coming back and after a while we finally headed out again and up to Cabanas for some lunch. Even though we arrived at the tail end of the lunch time it was still pretty full in there.
Before we decided what to get we walked through a little, then got in line since everyone seemed to do it. We both filled our plates

and Tom even got some sushi, which he really enjoyed.

IMG_1204.jpg

The food was fine and there was plenty to choose from, but we still prefer being served. We both had two plates, tasting a lot of what was offered and Tom got some coffee for dessert, while I got a slice

IMG_1212.jpg

of pumpkin pie. The slices are really small, but it was more than enough for me to satisfy my need for something sweet. Once we had finished lunch we had to hurry as we wanted to join a ship's tour, the "Making of the DREAM" tour.

To be continued ..........

Just caught up on updates.
We sure do agree on liking to be served rather than Cabanas! :)

We noticed all 3 tickers in your signature. The last one sounds amazing! I think Meg would like you to adopt her! :lmao:

Karin, great update. Sorry the larger of the Bacardi stores was closed, but glad you found something Tom would like.

I just looked at your tickers and cannot believe we miss each other by a couple of weeks for your February trip, and only by a week for the September trip.

:woohoo: Glad to hear that we are not the only ones who enjoy being served more than serving ourselves! ;) :thumbsup2

Yes, I know next year's summer vacation sounds fun! I cannot believe we get to do a coast to coast vacation again with a few fun cities thrown in as well (Las Vegas, San Francisco, Santa Barbara).
Hm, adopting Meg ....... she is a cute young lady ........ I might consider that, do you think she would mind tagging along for all those Disney destinations? :rotfl2:

Kathy, don't worry, he found a LOT of rum he liked in both stores! :rotfl2:

Yes, isn't it sad, that we will arrive a week after you leave and leave a week before you arrive in the summer.

oh pixie dust isn't wonderful when that happens I need to stop by your ptr next :thumbsup2 I do like the look of the caramel roll looks yummy, what a really thoughful gift of doghnuts.

We really got a heavy dusting of Pixie dust for our February trip! :thumbsup2

The DREAM is a truely beautiful ship and her "younger" sister looks equally beautiful. Have you seen the video of the Fantasy leaving the Meyer-Werft? It's just breathtaking to see that huge ship glide along the river!

We really loved our gift from Stefy and Dave - and had it up for all three cruises! :goodvibes

I love your bahamas pictures. I can't wait till I can go again and retake pictures...ones that I lost last time. :rotfl2:

Great updates Karin :goodvibes

I just love looking at your photos with those wonderful blue skies :cloud9:

Thanks for brightening up a gloomy day in London :thumbsup2

Oh, I completely forgot that you lost some of your photos of your trip! More than enough reason to go again! :thumbsup2
We had four Nassau days and I can tell you, as beautiful as it is, it was more than enough for us. ;)

Great updates Karin :goodvibes

I love those blue skies too, especially since we ran into Hurricane Irene during cruise no 2 and the skies didn't look all that beautiful then. ;)

But the photos are very soothing during those dark, cold days here. :goodvibes

they had a fire last year off the pier in Nassau, so that might be why the Bacardi store was the way it was...

http://cruisediva.blogspot.com/2011/02/harborside-blaze-in-downtown-nassau.html

Oh my god, I didn't know about the fire - that must have been it! The walls were all dark (like burned) but we never connected it to fire.
Thanks for pointing it out! :goodvibes
