I've just read an article about the "Importance of Wedding Favours".

The article states:. It is usually a good idea to find something that suits the theme of the wedding and is both long lasting and practical.

The article gave two ideas. One was a sun & surf travel bag with for instance sunblock sunglasses included.

Another was a wine bottle stopper and chocolate almonds.

My dh & I married on his birthday 6 days after Valentine's Day. We gave miniture black and red coloured boxes of "Pot o' Gold" (red lettering) chocolates b/c we are of Irish heritage as were many of our guests. The boxes had a gold coloured heart shaped brooch pin on the top of them.

They were a hit but that was 43 yrs ago this Feb. 20th :hippie: weddings have become more elaborate imho over the decades.

Any ideas for or memorable wedding favours come to mind in your wedding guest history? Maybe your own?.

Then for fun perhaps humourous ones or flops! ;)

Happy "almost" Valentine's Day!

I've been to weddings in 2 different regions of the country - ranging from full sit down dinners with open bar to cake and punch receptions - and have never, ever received a wedding favor. And I have to say, I am perfectly fine with that.

Happy "almost" Valentine's Day!

The best I remember seeing, or -actually - not seeing, was at my cousin's wedding 9 years ago.

They had two frames, side by side, on their guest book table. One explained that in lieu of favors they had taken that money and made a donation to a charity (I don't recall which one) in memory of their grandparents - all of whom had passed just a year or two earlier! In the second frame was a lovely letter of thanks from the charity.

I have yet to get a great wedding favor, lots of dust collectors. But my sister went to a wedding where the couple arranged to have bagels, cream cheese and the Sunday times available at to all the guests at the end of the wedding. I thought it was brilliant!

Let's see, I guess I never got anything really "useful".

The last wedding I went to, each guest got a small picture frame with their name as the picture done in calligraphy as part of the place setting. I have it sitting on my desk now in my office and it's kinda cute.

My cousin had a beach themed wedding and each person got a sand dollar that was painted with the bride and groom's names and the date of the wedding. I can't do anything with it, but it's cute.

Most favors we've seen have to do with being a take-home decoration and aren't very useful.

I know that no one gives out the engraved book of matches anymore, but darn I liked to have them around for when I needed an emergency match.

The only wedding favor I ever kept was a cd of Elvis songs that my cousin made for her and her sisters wedding.

The one that sticks out the most is they gave us bags and had an assortment of candies. Everyone filled them on their way out....that was pretty cool.

I guess my porcelain swan with Jordan almonds in it would classify as a dust collector. :lmao: But it was almost 24 years ago. I think my mom's still has the almonds in it in her china cabinet....:crazy2: We also gave out a printed bookmark. I don't even think I have one around anymore.

I can't remember any stuff we've received.

We made a compilation CD of our favorite songs. Many of my family and friends still say they listen to it. We also got an ice scream scoop from one of my friends weddings and still use it. I like the book of matches idea as well as the various candies bar with a bag for selecting your own.

When DH and I renewed our vows a couple of years ago, we did it on a boat. Sticking with our nautical theme, our favors were little treasure chests with chocolate coins inside. Kind of pirate-y. To make them personal, I found lots of quotes from famous people with the word 'treasure' in it and attached one to each chest.

Everyone loved them :)

For my wedding my hubbie and I baked cookies and used edible color markers to decorate them. Put them in clear bags and tied it with a color coordinated ribbon. I believe they were flowers.

Interesting thread as DD is getting married in October.

I have yet to get a great wedding favor, lots of dust collectors.
:thumbsup2 I have picture frame coasters stashed in drawers that I never use. This past year a friend gave out Mason jar mugs with their names on them. DD has all of ours for glasses in their new home.

DD has ordered matches in her colors with the wedding date and their names on them. Everyone needs matches.

She may just have the matches and give a donation. I can't imagine spending a lot of money on something to get stuck in a drawer.

We did miniature apple butters (it was a country wedding in the fall). Tied the names around them to have them double as namecards.

My cousin did miniature bottles of scotch. That went over well.

My husband kind of turned up his nose at my cousin's pint glass favor, but 12 years later he still uses it every day.

Best I ever got - harmonica.
Worst - tiny picture frames, like 2" by 3" or something. Who prints photos that size?

For our wedding, we got chocolate-covered Oreos that were decorated like pumpkins. The company put one white "pumpkin" and one orange "pumpkin" in each bag and tied them with ribbons that matched my (purple) wedding dress.

Not one of those favors made it out of the building. Literally everyone ate theirs before they left.

:thumbsup2

Can't remember what we gave at my first wedding. Probably match books.

Most useful favor I ever received was a key ring with a miniature tape measure, printed with bride & groom's names and date of wedding. That thing came in so handy more times than I can count, and I always thought of the happy couple when I used it.

I like that! :goodvibes

The worst I've received was decorated glad containers for leftovers from the meal. (It was a buffet style). Um, what? :confused3

The best was a CD that the couple put together that represented them during each portion of their friendship and dating life. Very cool! I still listen to it today. :)

My niece married 6 years ago and the "favor" was a silver wine bottle stopper in the shape of a stylized heart. It was presented in a small velvet bag with a gold cord. I use it all the time (doesn't that make me sound like a wino???) and think of her every time.:)

I din't remember any favors but the only ones that get "used" are the edible ones. Everything else stays at the venue. We gave a box of truffles at our wedding and I was really looking forward to trying out some of the leftovers. Not one was left at the end of the wedding.
