Members's cruise

From the posts I've seen so far, it might take several cruises before CC is back up.
I read that the channel is going to have to be dredged before the ship can get through.
No idea how long something like that takes.

I HOPE if CC is not availabe we do not end up at Nassau (at all) - especially not twice. (ugh!)

To anyone who went on previous Member Cruises and went to CC, is it a "normal" port call
or are there special "Member Cruise" things planned at CC beyond the normal visit?

Crossing my fingers with the rest of you!

Besides our 2 stops at CC, there were "Welcome Home" signs/banners when we arrived on the island. There was a DVC group photo on the 2nd CC day taken of everyone on the ship on the beach which is a member cruise tradition.

Yeah, I would not want to stop in Nassau either. The straw market at the port is pretty much destroyed :sad2:

According to the last news report I read, Disney has not released any info regarding damamge. I read somehwere that someone called DCL and was told the next outgoing cruise would be stopping at CC :confused3

I really hope we still get Castaway Cay. But, I won't complain either way. This trip is going to be so much fun.

I've done my online check in and STILL haven't gotten anything in the mail.

I'm starting to think that because I'm bringing my sister and we live in different states that the two different address has sent Disney's IT into mass confusion.

I was looking at the personal navigator for both CC days from the last member cruise and other than the group photo on day 4 nothing stood out as different. I did find the CC events page from the second stop. Here it is.

Thanks, yeah I know. I was going to that thread daily and finally just gave up.. This will be our second Member's Cruise and first time on the Dream. We have actually taken three Disney cruises and this will be our fourth. We are so excited about this one and the new ship and all. Sorry you were unable to book it due to school. Just prior to this cruise there is a DIS meet in Indy we are going to. It was a lot of fun last year and we met a lot of folks who post here. It's always fun to meet people you see posting here...smjj

Hi there!! We will also be at the Indy DIS meet!!! Looking forward to seeing you there. I'm sorry the other threads were too overwhelming. They would be for me, too...but I usually check during the day from work and then in the evening from home. Ok...and once again just before bed. :lmao: I'm looking forward to meeting as many DVC members as I can on this cruise. It's always so interesting to hear everyone's stories about when they joined, why they joined and what they like about their home resort(s).

we're on this cruise with a little help from our guide. :thumbsup2

we are new members so we are trying to figure out this cruise
vesus the regular ones. do they let you now ahead of time
about the special activities?

{ the other site is too fast for me . my guess they were friends before
this cruise.}

Some of us just became friends on last years' SSMC. Some of us haven't met yet. It's really a friendly group....but some of them DO get carried away with the posts. You'll have to excuse them...they're just a little :goofy:

Who felt a bit put off by the cruise meets thread. Being a bit of a wallflower to begin with, I was starting to wonder if I'd be on ship with a clique of people and be totally left out of the fun. Sounds like that is just a small number of people posting over there and there will be lots of other people like me who did not join in on that "fun".

Our waitlist came through a while ago so we'll be sailing too

I'm really sorry you felt a bit put off by the other thread. Please don't be a wall flower on the ship....I had so many wonderful conversations with other DVC members on last years cruise. I'm typically shy, but I've learned that I can strike up a conversation with people a lot easier when I'm on a Disney vacation. :goodvibes Even if people didn't post on that thread, we'd all still like to meet other DVC members. We really are a fun group of people who all share a passion for Disney Vacation Club AND Disney Cruise Line. None of us knew each other a year ago and we've formed very great friendships!

Yeah, sometimes I get tired of defending my choice to be a DVC member. So many posters on this board try to tell people that it doesn't make financial sense, and you should run the numbers. Well, I did just that (having an MBA, I feel qualified to do so ;) ). And for us, with the types of vacations we were already taking at WDW, it made a LOT of sense. We have never regretted it for a moment. It's VERY nice to be with other DVC members who "get it". :thumbsup2

We also think the cruise is worth it, for the same reasons you listed. It does cost more, but we think the perks more than cover that. The only down side is the whole "phoning in" process for reservations. Not my favorite way to spend a Saturday!! :)

On last years member cruise, we were talking to a lady who had just recently retired. She had given her DVC contracts to her Accountant and asked if it was wise for her to keep DVC financially being retired. Her accountant said absolutely! :thumbsup2

To this day I still suffer (exaggerating just a tad) from an injury sustained on CC
after they cleaned up from a hurricane in Dec 2005.

Apparently the waves pounded the beach so hard that it was no longer sloping,
but more like a straight down step of about 1.5 feet.

The problem arose when they just covered up with nice soft sand. I fell and landed on my,
um, kiester, on the very hard sand step.
To this day it still hurts.

I call it my Castaway Keister.

No lawsuit or anything, just sucked it up and went about my business.

Just a heads-up, have a great cruise!:goodvibes

I LOVE the "Castaway Keister" name!! :lmao: Sorry you got hurt! :sad1:

From USA Today

"The storm also closed Disney Cruise Line's Castaway Cay, but damage was minimal. Dream will change its itinerary, rescheduling a Tuesday stop until Wednesday, giving crews an extra day to freshen up the popular call."

Thanks Calypso726 for this update and for posting last year's navigator. Very helpful information. I can't wait for the cruise (no matter where we end up!). See you there!

Hello, Wanted to let you all know of the website as well where we have some other tips specifically to the Member cruise. It also has a gallery of some of us DISers that are on the cruise.

Here is the link: Click

Looking forward to meeting everyone from on here on the cruise.

This will be Shawn and I's fourth member cruise.

You're welcome DizDays :goodvibes The update was on the other thread so I figured I'd post it here too. I know me too! Very excited. See you then!

Silly question - Where do you find out about future member cruises?

The 2012 Member Cruise should be announced during this years. The member website will be updated after the announcement is made. They have also mailed out post cards in prior years directing you to the member website for information.

Hello there!

I am such the newbie myself, never been to Florida or a cruise for that matter. But my family and I love all things Disney. :goodvibes

So I started a "Disney Cruise Newbie Thread" last year and hope to add to it soon. The thread focuses on Cruising in general and some Member Cruise info that I hope you find helpful. :flower3:

Here's the CLICKY for the Disney Cruise Newbie thread.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on the SSMC cruise!

Hi gailg3horses,

There's no way you'll feel totally left out... No worries. Last year we really only talked at length with one family on the MC because our kids were the same age and were at the same spot on the beach, and we had a great time! You're right about the small number of posters. I have compiled a list of all the posters who have said what state they are from (see below). There are only about 100 people on a ship that carries 4,000 and many of them don't post very frequently.

I think the other thread merely offers an added dimension of socialization, beyond everything Disney already has to offer. Having never actually met anyone here in person (except Dan & Sue, who we met in London, England of all places), I think we will run into our new friends all around the ship and island. More than one person has said that it's the people who make the cruise most enjoyable, so I decided to give it a try this year.

I post this on the other thread from time to time, and since I have updated it with folks from this thread, I thought some of you might find it interesting:

Hooser John- You can add another poster from from VA:thumbsup2.

gailg3horses- This our 3rd MC. We loved both of the previous 2 cruises. It gave us the opportunity to meet a large and varied number of wonderful DVC members (don't believe we ever met a bad one:cool2:) as well as having the opportunity to have some time to ourselves to just chill. There will be many opportunities to mingle and get to know others.

When/where is the Indy DIS meet? We're from Lebanon, IN and thought it would be fun to meet other Hoosiers.

Can't help you with the time and location, but I wanted to say howdy. I'm from Lafayette and live in Indy now, so I know Lebanon well.

I'm sure Debbie (luckymomoftwo) or Milford (disrailfan) will see your question soon. I can't make it, so have a good time!

Hey Hoosier John, you have another IL gal here. Tally me up! :)

 While I'd love to see the Midwest numbers grow, you were the fourth IL person I added, waaaay back on the other thread. I like the way you think though :thumbsup2

Did you make it to either of the Chicago DISmeets?
