Membership Magic Beyond

Every time Disney inches the carrot farther away, I expect blowback and am absolutely dumbfounded when instead, I look around and see everyone around me undoing their purse strings with a smile on their face.

I’m waiting for them to make LLMP a prepaid yearly add on. Sure, this is optional, but it should be included. The video game industry has been ruined by microtransactions, pay to skip the line, etc. and Disney is jumping right into that same mess. You used to play a game and be on the same level as everyone else, or go to Disney and be on the same level, but they are using terrible psychological trickery of FOMO and eliteness into squeezing more out of everyone “only $99” at a time. “Ultimate limited collector’s edition, skip the line and play 3 days ahead of launch!” At least you used to get a junky plastic figurine with those game editions.

What if you have multiple membership IDs… do you only get the perks if you are staying on points of the membership that is DVC-Y….

Also, where is the Aulani love in all of this?

Give me a priority line for character meet and greets or a one day advantage at being able to book the character breakfast…. how about an earlier window to pre-book reserved seating….
Agree! Especially since it's an active property. I want to see some cabana incentives.

I do not see anything here that would necessitate which points you are staying on.

Am very curious how this will work especially with the photos. But we will be getting it either way - great to see about the OTUP…

I posted the terms and conditions. It does go into more details about it.

I just read all the terms and conditions. So it is an expiring ticket that can be used within 8 days or upgraded to a sorcerer's pass with DVC points by last use. I wonder if in that case, your cash is refunded and points subtracted from your direct contract?

Our son and DIL are on our direct contract but live in a different state. I see all tickets have to be from the same household which I'm okay with. If someone does not have an answer for that I will ask our guide next week. In fact, I will ask him LOTS OF QUESTIONS and won't he be happy to see me (he is a sweetie!)

Well this rumor has been swirling around for quite some time, but I think Poly took my eyes off this subject recently. Interesting, if sales are so great, they finally feel they can sprinkle some pixie dust on us?

:tink:

I read it and says it can be upgraded to an available annual pass EXCLUDING the sorcerer pass purchased with points.

As with the LL upgrade option, this is a no for me - doesn't offer me any real perk other than the possibility of getting into the lounge a little sooner than someone else when there's a waitlist. I have an AP, so pass discounts don't help - anyone I travel with doesn't live in my household, so doesn't help getting passes for them, I don't even know what a one-time-point is so clearly never used one, and I don't use photopass.

I also have never used a Lightning Lane or paid the extra price for specific rides either - so clearly if I didn't even think the old LLs were worth it for me, the new super-expensive ones aren't going to entice me either.

I admit I am really surprised what people are willing to spend to go to Disney - At a comfortable higher-tax-bracket income, I find the costs to be pretty nuts, and yet I see plenty of people at the parks at much lower income and net worth levels - with large family groups - A married couple with 3 kids staying at a moderate resort, buying 5-7 days of passes for all, paying for the extra lightning lanes and photo passes, plus shopping, food, and drink costs already has to be in the high 4-figures - now tempt them to upgrade to a deluxe and the privilege to spend another $250-350 each per day to add on the extra lightning lane perk - that's another $3K or more on top - now the trip is entering 5-digit territory.

I love Disney, I go there 4-5 trips a year, and I spend a lot on signature dining and cocktails and such - and spread my costs out by having an AP and DVC...and nothing at Universal holds any appeal to me at all, but there's a side of me that wants Disney to get a drubbing with Epic park opening - maybe causing them to pare back some of the out-of-control price increases and more and more paid extras. No guarantees that would be the reaction - who knows - maybe they'd decide to increase it even more. So far, it's only moderately impacting my trip experience, as I'm not buying any of these extras, and other than the AP cost going up and the food costs going up, plus causing me to skip a few more rides than I used to because I don't have an LL and the standby line is too long...otherwise, my trips are still roughly the same and my overall spending on food and drink each trip is about 20% more than it was 5 years ago.

To say that it excludes being able to upgrade it to a sorcerer pass with points, not that it allows it

It's nothing to wonder, because it cannot be done:

"A WDW Ticket is eligible for an upgrade to an available annual pass, excluding a WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort Disney Sorcerer Pass being purchased with Vacation Points. "

I guess the one distinction I would make is that everything on here is value added. It's not taking anything away from people who decide not to pay the $99. Well, the lounge access is a little TBD--if some people get in sooner, others will get in later. Exactly how that manifests remains to be seen. Aside from that, it's a new character greet, new ticket discounts, new OTU points perk, etc.

If it leaks over into other areas in the future...well, let's just say my perspective is subject to change.

We’re going so much this year, I’ll probably buy it just to see if I get any value - especially since we’re bringing family with us for two weeks who don’t have AP.

I’m wondering how the pricing will compare if I purchase two 5-day Membership Magic tickets versus one-10 day discounted ticket. 🤔

I agree with you mostly, but lounge access being tiered is a line in the sand for me. I’ve encountered waits every time I’ve gone- now it’s basically constructive denial where they aren’t taking away that aspect of my membership benefit, they are just making it impossible to use without paying more. Same end result. I don’t even care about the lounges when it comes down to it- they could take them away tomorrow and give something equal for all I care, but don’t make 2nd and now 3rd class citizens out of your membership.

This feels like an ad that says SALE and then in the small print excludes everything you’d actually want to buy…. (Ahem… weekday only tickets….)

For a family of 4 it’s only $25 a person for an entire year… but it’s missing something to put it over the top….
