Membership Magic Beyond

Don't know if it's just me, but I don't see the value in any of this. Never bought OTUP and we've had AP's so memory maker is a non-issue (and honestly, after having trips for the past 17 years, we don't use that anymore anyway). It also seems like a really strange way to incentivize things by making people think they won't be able to get into a member lounge. Sure, I enjoy my Coke Zero, but I can buy a whole lot of them at Publix for $99.

I'm no DVD executive, but it seems to me, if I wanted to move more direct points, I'd add this in at higher levels of direct points rather than a flat $$ fee to try to drive more sales, but even then, I don't see much value in this.
I think there's potentially a little bit of something for most people, but hardly anyone will benefit from every perk.

Using points to pay for an AP, or discounted tickets for those who dont buy AP's. Extra OTU for those who need just a little extra points each year. People who also pay for LL so they dont want to wait in line for the lounge either. Or even for those who actually like Interval International they can save that $95 fee.

Ditto.

I have the $99 AP photo pass, so this perk basically pays for itself. No-brainer for me.
This was my initial reaction too until I saw the photo pass inclusion is 30 days only. Hubs and I are usually the people who upgrade everything but there’s nothing about this add on that is useful to is.

I really don't see this as being a benefit to me. I would, as I often travel with my family and friends, but none of them live at my residence. I live alone. so the park ticket discount would not apply to them, even when staying in the same DVC Room. I travel in slower season and have never had to wait for access to the lounge. And there's no reason right now that'd want to use my points to purchase the ONE Sorcerer pass that I'm eligible to buy, again, as I live alone.

If they'd make the pass discount available to others staying in your room, even if they don't live at your address, like they do for lounge access, and Moonlight Magic, I'd probably go ahead and get it.

Disney is so bad at announcing stuff, it's mind-boggling. Share the ticket pricing details and availability. Good thing you all have PhDs in Applied DVC and I can depend on you all for excel spreadsheets in the following weeks to calculate the breakeven.

As a fellow UK DVC-er, I’m not sure I get the benefits for us.

The UK park tickets are cheaper even with the discounts offered here.

And we have a sorcerer AP anyway. I guess the MM add on is alright, but you get that for free with UK tickets and we just add it on to one of our APs anyway.

If this is true and only USA can buy,,,then we are shutting off the Maple Syrup pipeline to all of you.
Serious though, not sure how they can limit just to USA. I know the tickets come from another department, maybe even the MM. But being able to access OTU points,,hmm I have issues with that. That is part of DVC management and has to be equal for all. Unless I am wrong even non Y get OTU if needed.
Don’t know why they would want to limit it to U.S citizens - I honestly think it will be corrected before going live.

Unless there are some legalities that prevents them - but with what is offered I’m not seeing it.

Depends on How are the 30 days calculated? I mean if you can apply it to a 5 days hopper and still being able to use the 25 days ie 6 months later then I might be useful.

Just off chat with them,,,they said its because of legalities are different in other countries. ??? I asked what is wrong with paying for services,,,she was just a chat official and had no answer but to provide me with an email address to send the question to.
Fresh news but everything not ironed out yet. This happened with something else recently with Canadians, but quickly was turned around. Hope this is the same case.
Not that I need it, but we should all have access to the same system if we are all paying into it......except those non Ys..lol...kidding....maybe

I wish the possibility of ticket discounts wasn’t limited to only those in the same household…

I will be real super tempted to book 5 nights at 11months, and then try to add 2 nights at 7months with OTUP for $240!

:(

That makes no sense. Are you sure it's not 30 days from each reservation? I haven't read the details.

It might be and if that’s the case it changes my thinking.

Edited to add: I’m basing my assumption on it being 30 consecutive days because the phrasing is “30-day Memory Maker entitlement, valued at up to $210 if purchased separately” and apparently a 30 day memory maker is 210$.

I assume its just one 30 day memory maker for the year.

That's beyond silly. Particularly as a DVC member perk, most of whom likely go multiple times per year.
I agree with you. Many of the individuals who go multiple times per year are less likely to need the discounted weekday tickets also. That merely reduces two of the pathways to which this might make sense for many DVCers. At the same time, those who go multiple times per year may be more likely to have APs and less likely to buy the one off MM as well as they utilize the $99 upgrade for the year.

I will say that the 3-day weekday Disneyland perk may work very well for me, as I typically would go for only 4 nights. Depending on how much the discount is.

IMO this may be a talking point for guides to lure potential DVC sales in. We are all picking apart this announcement piece by piece to see if it makes sense for each of our unique situations. For $99, the OTU points BOGO is a deal.

It gives another way for a guide to open the conversation with a potential buyer and show how wonderful and generous those suits at DVC really are...I especially love being "granted" any type of perk that I am paying for! I think pretty much anyone can find a reason to buy or not to buy and that is the question!
