Just got back from 9 days at OKW. Lovely weather, wonderful stay. Few crowds last week many more folks there since the weekend.
We attended both of the member updates last week (OKW & BWV) and again this morning at OKW. Big news. The price of points is going up again! The new price will be $95. This increase goes into effect on April 4 for non members and on May 1 for members. So get those add ons now before the increase. (If you can afford it.)
(I can't)
They finally showed the artist renderings of the new OKW slide this morning. Looks nice. They said that the 'sand castle theme' for the slide is to go along with the current Sand Castle Tot Lot (aka the sand box) near the pool. They did not give a date for the start or completion of the slide just sometime this fall. And they again mentioned that the cost of the slide's construction is being covered by DVD (Disney Vacation Development) not the members.
Saw the new SSR buildings from the Trumbo ferry this weekend. They were moving furniture into the first building. Just a reminder from the member update-this resort will be opening in stages just like OKW did. That means that even though 4 buildings are completed members may only stay on points in those buildings which have been 'declared into the resort'. Buildings are declared in as points are sold. So a building will not be declared into the DVC resort until a sufficient number of points are sold. That means that there will be paying guests staying there as well until sufficient numbers of points are sold. Anyone who has been a longtime member will recall the days at OKW when it was finished but there were often more renters than members. As of this morning.
Also they mentioned that the new Vacation Magic is on its way. An article will cover the new senior executive of DVC. (Sorry can't recall his name.) But a the big news is that this new executive is sitting on committees to advise Al Weiss President of WDW. Now we have a voice high up at WDW!
By the way if you haven't attended a member update recently they have a new format. It is run by Mike (can't recall his last name) from marketing. Much nicer not so much selling. More member info, several 'guest' speakers and they stay around to answer questions. And facts and figures change as they get them. We saw changes at each update. So when you are there go to the updates. All 3 were more crowded than last year at this time.
We also met a number of folks who are spending 6 weeks or more at OKW! One gentleman in a studio, one couple in a one bedroom (neither of them move). Several other couples who move out on Fridays and back in on Sundays to save on points. They either stay with family or at a local hotel off property on Fridays and Saturdays. Yikes I didn't have the nerve to ask how many points they have. Ahh to dream of long, long stays at OKW!
