Do DVC members get a discount on cash bookings at Disney resorts?

We get a 25% discount at DVC resorts for cash, when available. You can frequently get better rates for cash using your AP, especially at the other Disney resorts. What is nice is when you can use your AP to get a discount at a DVC resort. Last year I got 50% off on a one bedroom with AP at OKW on Friday and Saturday nights. No luck this year, but then, this year I am in a grand villa :teeth:

If you add on to an existing points reservation using either the DVC cash discount or an AP discount are you required to check-in again or can they link them so you can keep the same room?

If you use the DVC member cash discount, it is treated as one stay, you get keys and parking permit for the entire time. It is also treated as one stay for housekeeping. For example, I used a member discount for Saturday night, then points Sunday to Thursday nights. Our Trash & Towel was Tuesday.

If you use an AP discount, you have to check-in again and there is no guarantee you will keep the same room (although it's more than likely you will keep it). You get full housekeeping for the AP nights. We did that last year, Sunday to Thursday nights on points, Friday on AP discount. Had to go to the front desk on Friday morning for new keys and parking permit (non-member). Local calls were 75 cents that day, not the 35 cent member rate. We got a full cleaning on Friday.

:badpc: i have read in several posts about ap discounts, what are they? please excuse my ignorance.

It is essentially a $125.00 discount on PAP and a $100.00 discount on AP. It is a great deal IMHO. Here's a link to AllEarsNet that shows the prices for PAP's and AP's, the benefits and the discounts.

In addition there are also the discounts you get at various times of the year on hotel rooms at WDW using your AP.

AP(annual pass) discount for us on Friday and Saturday stay in July at BCV is $1.50 less a night plus tax then member's discount. I decided it was with the extra money I booked member's discount rate so I don't have to go down to the front desk and check out and check in again. I figured it was worth the extra money. :)

How did you manage the reservation? Did you make your usual MS points res for the Sunday to Thursday stay then called CRO for an AP room rate when they were released and just got lucky that they had OKW on AP rates?

I made the points res at 7 months for Sunday-Thursday nights. I knew I wanted to add either the Saturday before or the Friday after. It's never a problem getting an OKW 1 bedroom in May for a weekend night, it's a quiet time. I didn't buy airfare until about 2 months before and got the best deal by flying down Sunday and flying home Saturday, so I needed to add a room for Friday night. AP rates were out, so I called. They had it available, I gave them my DVC reservation # to note on the reservation. I called member services and gave them my CRO # to note. They both said they could not guarantee the same room but I knew OKW is not crowded then so I wasn't worried. When I checked in, I mentioned it to the cm and she said they had it noted. I went to the front desk on Friday morning around 9:00 to be sure it wouldn't be a problem and it wasn't. In fact, practically everyone in line at that time was doing the same thing.

I think you mean the room discount. They have room discounts available for those who have annual passes. The time I mentioned above was last year, the AP rate was about $20 less plus I liked the idea of getting housekeeping after 5 nights. This year, the AP rate and the member cash rate were about the same, and I added the night before our points res, so I went with the member cash discount. AP room discounts are not as good as they used to be. Instead of a percentage off as they did in the past, they are using a flat dollar amount off, which isn't as good on a higher priced room. AP was about 30% off when I did it last year, this year I think it was a flat $100 off.

One thing to remember about DVC member benefits is that they are subject to change at any time. Benefits come and go, so it's not a good idea to consider them in making a decision whether to buy DVC.
