Melting Pot

When we go we do salad, cheese and chocolate. $6 per person for a salad, $7 per person for cheese ($14 a pot which serves 2) and $7 per person for dessert. I guess I don't consider $20 to be super expensive. If you want the meat it's going to be higher, I agree, but I find that the three courses are just fine.

I was just sent a coupon for free chocolate fondue but you must purchase two entrees or dinner for two i wil eamil it to you if you can use it.

Hope the OP enjoyed her anniversary dinner at Melting Pot! My dh and I go for our anniversary....for an alone, adult meal. We always register online for our anniversary and get the free chocolate fondue. DH's favorite course is the cheese....so we always do cheese, entree (which comes with a salad), and chocolate. It is less expensive to purchase individual entrees, cheese...and then get the free dessert....of course this depends on the entree you choose. You can substitute meats...ask for more veggies...and switch out items on the chocolate dipping plate (the only thing you can not get more of is the cheesecake). My favorite is the teriyaki marinated sirloin...and we usually get the original oil to cook in as we like the tempura batters...nothing like a mushroom stuffed with green goddess and then covered in tempura batter!!!

I noticed on the website of our local Melting Pot, you can get salad, cheese fondue and dessert fondue all for 1/2 price from 5-7pm if you eat at the bar.

I thought of going with the kids for the above, but can they sit at the bar? Is it a bar like many restaurants where there are tables too?

When I went for happy hour at the MP in Kansas City, it was a lounge like area that you could get the half price stuff. You don't sit at a regular table. We had my nephew who was only a couple of months old but I wouldn't take kids per se.

I went to the Melting Pot exactly once and found that, even completely ignoring the price, the food was just blah. And the added bonus was my wool coat reeked like old french fries in the car on the way home because of the oil pots OTHER patrons had chosen for their main course (we chose the red wine one).

We get more ofthe cheesecake everytime we go- they have never said no when we list the things we want more of.

That's interesting. We were also told the only dessert dipper we couldn't get more of was cheesecake.

My favorite entree is the Teriyaki Marinated Sirloin. We always get the court boullion style of cooking and with the green goddess dipping sauce, well, just let me say--WONDERFUL!

YES!

I also love the, I think it is, original chocolate which has peanut butter in it. YUM I always get extra marshamallows.

Maybe we are just unsophisticated but, it is my favorite place!

State law would determine that. In some states, a minor cannot be served anything physically at the bar. Side tables might be okay. Our Melting Pot had 2 small tables in the bar area not in the main restaurant. I think that would be allowed. Depends on the restaurant and law, I would guess.

A girlfriend brought me out to one on my birthday last year; she goes for special occastion with her hubby & kids, but it was my first time. I enjoyed it but my DH has nooooo desire to go there. EVER! I was psyched last winter when they had certificates on buywithme.com - $50 for a $100 voucher! I'm taking my friend for her birthday!

Hmmm....well, maybe it is a regional thing? We have been to 4 different Melting Pots in Florida and they all have said no more cheesecake.

Would have loved a $50 for $100 voucher! Guess I missed that one! I know that they have 1/2 price vouchers on half off depot for Atlanta based restaurants....but I have not seen anything for Florida yet.

Definitely not a fan. We went with another couple ages ago in Orlando, and I just found the whole concept strange. I didn't find that the atmosphere was "elegant" at all. It was on the loud side, with booths.

It was a really long ordeal. Over 2 hours. With six glasses of wine....for the four of us (one non-drinker), it ended up being $250 per couple with tip. The wine was about $10 per glass....but still, that's crazy expensive for a meal that you're basically cooking yourself.

By far, the best part of the whole thing is the cheese dip course and the dessert with the chocolate.

The entree part is just odd....you are basically boiling your own meal. And it's fine to boil shrimp or lobster if that's part of your entree, but boiling filet mignon....not so great....or the chicken for that matter. And you have to really be careful not to touch your fork to the raw chicken by mistake....that kind of thing.

One of my customers gave me a $100 gift certificate for the Melting Pot as a Christmas tip in 2010 and we still haven't used it. We'll use it....but when we do, we'll likely just go for a glass of wine, the cheese deal and then the chocolate deal....and that's it.

I just went for my birthday last night and it was great! I knew we could get more dippers for the cheese, but didn't know that was an option for the chocolate.

We took our three kids so we ordered two small pots of chocolate - I wanted dark chocolate and no one else likes it, so I essentially got my own pot. :woohoo:

We just got cheese (two pots - spinach artichoke - our favorite, and the fiesta) and two small pots of chocolate. We skipped the entree part because we don't like that part. It was $77 plus tip. Not bad for a family of five. We also skipped drinks and just had water which is normal for us. We don't drink alcohol or soda. It was a very reasonably priced meal. The kids loved it. We loved it. It was delicious.

I wish we'd known we could order more dessert dippers though. Next time.

We went in Maui and after cheese, salad, and entree
we were stuffed.

To our amazement we were offered a voucher to return the next night and
just do dessert...

yum.

We tipped our first night waitress for the complete bill
and our next night waiter for coffee and what the dessert would have been.
It didn't seem fair not to tip him.

Both did a great job.

I would skip the meat next time - just my preference.
