Definitely not a fan. We went with another couple ages ago in Orlando, and I just found the whole concept strange. I didn't find that the atmosphere was "elegant" at all. It was on the loud side, with booths.
It was a really long ordeal. Over 2 hours. With six glasses of wine....for the four of us (one non-drinker), it ended up being $250 per couple with tip. The wine was about $10 per glass....but still, that's crazy expensive for a meal that you're basically cooking yourself.
By far, the best part of the whole thing is the cheese dip course and the dessert with the chocolate.
The entree part is just odd....you are basically boiling your own meal. And it's fine to boil shrimp or lobster if that's part of your entree, but boiling filet mignon....not so great....or the chicken for that matter. And you have to really be careful not to touch your fork to the raw chicken by mistake....that kind of thing.
One of my customers gave me a $100 gift certificate for the Melting Pot as a Christmas tip in 2010 and we still haven't used it. We'll use it....but when we do, we'll likely just go for a glass of wine, the cheese deal and then the chocolate deal....and that's it.
