I have never done this but I was having someone ove r and put plastic containers in the oven. Wel I forgot to tell me son and he put the oven on to preheat it for supper. ARGH, melted plastic smells gross not to mention what a mess. Anyone else ever do something like this?
Repeat 100 times Gail " I will never store anything in my oven other then my dinners" :(

turned the oven on to preheat..not remembering that there was tupperware, bread, a bag of marshmallows, and some other meltable thing in there..what a mess that was..but since then NOTHING has been 'stored' in the oven..lol!

I am almost crying I am laughing so hard. I did this with my George Foreman grill. Sucker still works. Thank God I was only preheating at 325...

Sounds like a lesson not to store things in the oven.

Off Topic - sort of... Oven lesson 101 I learned at home. Before you turn on the self cleaning feature of your oven make really sure it is empty. Don't want the fire department to have to visit. There was a cookie sheet that had pork chops cooked on it - forgot it was in there. Not much damage though, very lucky!

YIKES! I store stuff in my microwave sometimes but not the oven. However will you get that melted plastic off the interior of the oven?

I learned my lesson about this about a week and a half ago. I put what I thought was a metal pan in the oven with my frozen waffles on it and then went into the living room and started listening to my John Denver CD. The smoke alarm went off and I went and opened the oven to find that what I thought was metal was plastic and had melted. I waited for it to cool and of course it solidified when that happened. I started trying to break it off the oven racks with my hands (Roger wasn't home) and cut one of my fingers on the sharp plastic. Then, I got a hammer and started breaking it off using the claw end of the hammer and ended up slipping and cutting my thumb badly enough that I ended up needing stitches. Roger got it all off when he got home using pliers....I will never put anything in the oven again without paying very careful attention to what material it's made of. It was actually pretty funny now that the pain is over.
