INTRO
Hey! I've been lurking for SO long and(with a little push from librarygeek) finally decided to start my own PJ. I hope this is ok since I'm not having an official Disney wedding.
I'm Melissa, 22. DF is Aaron, 21. He is from England (and living there now)
Gotta love that British accent.
How we met
October 20th,2008 was a Monday. I always had off on Monday and Tuesday. I don't know why, but I did. Alyssa always did too, so it was quite normal for the two of us to go to one of the four parks and enjoy the benefits of being a CP. Well, let me back up a bit. When I first arrived in Florida for my college program, Alyssa and I were roommates. Because she was from BYU, a Mormon college, I had to switch, but we still stayed close and always went to the parks together. This particular Monday, we chose Epcot. We stayed from open to close and right after Illuminations, we headed for the bus to take us back to Chatham. Any CP knows that waiting for the bus after a show is rough. We didn't fit on the first bus so we sat on the benches and waited for the next one. A few minutes later, some guy asked "can I sit here?" I said it was fine, and continued talking to Alyssa. Soon the bus stop is getting crowded and Alyssa spots some friends. I didn't know then so I started looking around when I noticed that if I moved over a bit there would be room for another person to sit, so I scooted over. The guy from earlier then asks "Do I smell or something?" I was horrified that he thought that so I quickly explained why I moved over. He then introduced himself as Aaron. I heard some sort of accent so I asked where he was from. When he said England, I tried not to show it, but inside I was freaking out. (I always had a thing for guys with accents. Until I met Aaron, I planned on moving down south so that I could marry a southern gentleman with an accent that would make me melt.)
So we talk for a bit and next thing I know Alyssa's friend Beth runs over and gives Aaron a huge hug and says " I love your accent! You're my new best friend. Can I have your number?" Aaron was very weirded out, but pulled out his phone anyway. Then all of Beth's other friends ask for his number... people are so strange. So then Aaron says "Do you want my number too?" I said "Only give it to me if you want to" becuase everyone else was demanding it. He wanted to and then asked for mine. He also said to look him up on facebook when I got home. Well, by this time four buses had already come and gone, so we all pushed out way to the front of the line and headed home. On the bus there was only standing room and we all had to hold the bars near the ceiling. A few minutes into the trip Beth switches to hold the bars on the other side of the bus and grabs it on either side of Aaron so its like she is embracing him. He turned to me and mouthed out "HELP" .. it was hilarious! The whole bus ride home I tried not to think much of it. I'd always heard that you find love when you least expect it so I kept telling myself "I'm not expecting it. I'm not expecting it." hehe
We arrive at Chatham and Alyssa and I go back to my apartment to get some stuff so I can sleep over her apartment. While I was grabbing some things, Alyssa went on my facebook and looked Aaron up. She sent him a message that said something like 'I think we met at the bus stop. I really hope this is you'. I wanted to kick her becuase I thought it sounded silly, but it was already done.
The next night I got a message back from him saying that he was glad that I found him and that we should hang out on Friday. I didn't have off so Wednesday morning I dashed into work an begged everyone and anyone to take my shift on Friday. Eventually someone told me to ask Trista so I did. She said that she would think about it because she had planned on going to Walmart. I told her that I would do ANYTHING if she took it. Later that afternoon she agreed to take it if I baked her cookies. lol. I agreed and that was it. I was so excited and couldn't wait for Friday!!
Our First Date
I woke up Friday morning after 3 hours of sleep (Id gone to the midnight premiere of High School Musical 3) and was full of energy because I was super excited about our date. When I saw it was raining, I checked to make sure we were still on and we were. I got on the bus around 8ish and he was the next bus stop, so I was praying I didnt get stood up. When he got on the bus, he spotted me and came right for me later on, he admitted he was paranoid that he wouldnt be able to find me because be couldnt remember what I looked like. When we got to Hollywood Studios, we made a mad dash for Toy Story Mania, one of our favorites. I totally beat him, and I dont think it was because he let me. We went to the first showing of Beauty and the Beast because its my most favoritest movie ever, and were talking the whole time. At one point, he said something like I bet the Beast is your dream man and I said something like O yea and the man in front of us turned around and said Hey! There are children here! Aaron and I looked at each other like what?? and started cracking up. He gave us another look, so we just left after all, we did have the pleasure of seeing the show whenever we wanted to. After a few more rides, we decided to head over to the Magic Kingdom for lunch. On our way out of the park, Aaron was being funny and held his umbrella over one of the photo ladies. She laughed and insisted on taking our picture. She had us do a few poses, one of which was pointing to the ground looking surprised. When we looked at the pictures later, we were pointing at Stitch, Aarons favorite, so it was perfect. We took the monorail over and rode in the front, something I had never done before. The driver was so nice, he let Aaron drive! He showed Aaron how to do it and then let him try. I was so proud of him! hehe When we got to Magic Kingdom we went to Tomorrow Land for burgers, my favorite! He knew I loved Beauty and the Beast from earlier, so he suggested that we go see Story time with Belle. Unfortunately, due to the rain, it was canceled, so we headed to the other side of the park. We then went on Pirates of the Caribbean and he requested that we get our own boat. I thought he would try something, but nothing happened and I was a little disappointed. A few rides later and we were standing in front of the Haunted Mansion. Our first ride through we pretended we were house buyers taking a tour of the mansion. We decided which rooms our children would have (this was when we decided to have the "how many children do you want" talk...lol I guess when you know you're right for each other, it's never to early). We then agreed that, as nice as it was, they would have to do a little cleaning or drop the price in order to buy it as is. When we got off, he was excited and suggested we ride it again. We ended up riding it 6 times in a row. By the 4th time I was like "really" and he said "We didn't get the right ghost"... I found out later that the reason we rode it so many times was because he was working up the courage to hold my hand, which he did the last ride. Apparently letting the bar hit his hands was one of his tactics to get me to grab his hand his hand got hit by the bar all 6 times! He was hoping Id have sympathy for him and grab his hurt hand, but I didnt go for it. I was thinking that he must have been an idiot for letting it hit him all 6 times seriously? This guy hadnt learned his lesson yet? lol oops. Overall, it was so magical and couldnt have been more perfect!
We had planned on having a Disney wedding, but my family talked us out of it... plus (although I hate admitting this part) it was too expensive. My fiance and I have expensive taste and every location or theme that we loved was just too much $$$$.
Take our "Everest" wedding for example. To have the reception in front of Everest was a $3,000 site fee. Then there was a $10,000 Food and Bev. Minimum. THEN it was mandatory to rent the ride as well and that's another $8,500. (wait it gets better) THEN the DJ was no longer $1,500... it became $6,500.... so without linens, flowers, dresses, limos, photography, etc. our total would have been $28,000 which was our whole budget. It would have been gorgeous though! lol
So then we switched to a ballroom at the Yacht and Beach Club but we needed to spice things up so we decided on a pirate bash! It looked AMAZING (see the fun pictures below) but again, when we asked for prices things got out of control... it was cheaper than everest, but... actually I dunno why we decided against it.
Either way, we're now having an at home Disney wedding. It really upsets me (don't tell anyone, but sometimes I cry about it) BUT I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible about it. We've having it at a Vineyard on Long Island... here are some pics of the coctail hour
We're trying to incorporate Disney as much as possible (since its a HUGE part of the story of us)
This is LONG so I'll stop for now
P.S. I'm HUGE on pictures... hope its ok
