Hey! I've been lurking for SO long and(with a little push from librarygeek) finally decided to start my own PJ. I hope this is ok since I'm not having an official Disney wedding.

I'm Melissa, 22. DF is Aaron, 21. He is from England (and living there now) Gotta love that British accent.

How we met

October 20th,2008 was a Monday. I always had off on Monday and Tuesday. I don't know why, but I did. Alyssa always did too, so it was quite normal for the two of us to go to one of the four parks and enjoy the benefits of being a CP. Well, let me back up a bit. When I first arrived in Florida for my college program, Alyssa and I were roommates. Because she was from BYU, a Mormon college, I had to switch, but we still stayed close and always went to the parks together. This particular Monday, we chose Epcot. We stayed from open to close and right after Illuminations, we headed for the bus to take us back to Chatham. Any CP knows that waiting for the bus after a show is rough. We didn't fit on the first bus so we sat on the benches and waited for the next one. A few minutes later, some guy asked "can I sit here?" I said it was fine, and continued talking to Alyssa. Soon the bus stop is getting crowded and Alyssa spots some friends. I didn't know then so I started looking around when I noticed that if I moved over a bit there would be room for another person to sit, so I scooted over. The guy from earlier then asks "Do I smell or something?" I was horrified that he thought that so I quickly explained why I moved over. He then introduced himself as Aaron. I heard some sort of accent so I asked where he was from. When he said England, I tried not to show it, but inside I was freaking out. (I always had a thing for guys with accents. Until I met Aaron, I planned on moving down south so that I could marry a southern gentleman with an accent that would make me melt.)
So we talk for a bit and next thing I know Alyssa's friend Beth runs over and gives Aaron a huge hug and says " I love your accent! You're my new best friend. Can I have your number?" Aaron was very weirded out, but pulled out his phone anyway. Then all of Beth's other friends ask for his number... people are so strange. So then Aaron says "Do you want my number too?" I said "Only give it to me if you want to" becuase everyone else was demanding it. He wanted to and then asked for mine. He also said to look him up on facebook when I got home. Well, by this time four buses had already come and gone, so we all pushed out way to the front of the line and headed home. On the bus there was only standing room and we all had to hold the bars near the ceiling. A few minutes into the trip Beth switches to hold the bars on the other side of the bus and grabs it on either side of Aaron so its like she is embracing him. He turned to me and mouthed out "HELP" .. it was hilarious! The whole bus ride home I tried not to think much of it. I'd always heard that you find love when you least expect it so I kept telling myself "I'm not expecting it. I'm not expecting it." hehe
We arrive at Chatham and Alyssa and I go back to my apartment to get some stuff so I can sleep over her apartment. While I was grabbing some things, Alyssa went on my facebook and looked Aaron up. She sent him a message that said something like 'I think we met at the bus stop. I really hope this is you'. I wanted to kick her becuase I thought it sounded silly, but it was already done.
The next night I got a message back from him saying that he was glad that I found him and that we should hang out on Friday. I didn't have off so Wednesday morning I dashed into work an begged everyone and anyone to take my shift on Friday. Eventually someone told me to ask Trista so I did. She said that she would think about it because she had planned on going to Walmart. I told her that I would do ANYTHING if she took it. Later that afternoon she agreed to take it if I baked her cookies. lol. I agreed and that was it. I was so excited and couldn't wait for Friday!!

Our First Date

I woke up Friday morning after 3 hours of sleep (I’d gone to the midnight premiere of High School Musical 3) and was full of energy because I was super excited about our date. When I saw it was raining, I checked to make sure we were still on and we were. I got on the bus around 8ish and he was the next bus stop, so I was praying I didn’t get stood up. When he got on the bus, he spotted me and came right for me… later on, he admitted he was paranoid that he wouldn’t be able to find me because be couldn’t remember what I looked like. When we got to Hollywood Studios, we made a mad dash for Toy Story Mania, one of our favorites. I totally beat him, and I don’t think it was because he let me. We went to the first showing of Beauty and the Beast because it’s my most favoritest movie ever, and were talking the whole time. At one point, he said something like “I bet the Beast is your dream man” and I said something like “O yea” and the man in front of us turned around and said “Hey! There are children here!” Aaron and I looked at each other like ‘what??’ and started cracking up. He gave us another look, so we just left… after all, we did have the pleasure of seeing the show whenever we wanted to. After a few more rides, we decided to head over to the Magic Kingdom for lunch. On our way out of the park, Aaron was being funny and held his umbrella over one of the photo ladies. She laughed and insisted on taking our picture. She had us do a few poses, one of which was pointing to the ground looking surprised. When we looked at the pictures later, we were pointing at Stitch, Aaron’s favorite, so it was perfect. We took the monorail over and rode in the front, something I had never done before. The driver was so nice, he let Aaron drive! He showed Aaron how to do it and then let him try. I was so proud of him! hehe… When we got to Magic Kingdom we went to Tomorrow Land for burgers, my favorite! He knew I loved Beauty and the Beast from earlier, so he suggested that we go see Story time with Belle. Unfortunately, due to the rain, it was canceled, so we headed to the other side of the park. We then went on Pirates of the Caribbean and he requested that we get our own boat. I thought he would try something, but nothing happened and I was a little disappointed. A few rides later and we were standing in front of the Haunted Mansion. Our first ride through we pretended we were house buyers taking a tour of the mansion. We decided which rooms our children would have (this was when we decided to have the "how many children do you want" talk...lol I guess when you know you're right for each other, it's never to early). We then agreed that, as nice as it was, they would have to do a little cleaning or drop the price in order to buy it ‘as is’. When we got off, he was excited and suggested we ride it again. We ended up riding it 6 times in a row. By the 4th time I was like "really" and he said "We didn't get the right ghost"... I found out later that the reason we rode it so many times was because he was working up the courage to hold my hand, which he did the last ride. Apparently letting the bar hit his hands was one of his tactics to get me to grab his hand… his hand got hit by the bar all 6 times! He was hoping I’d have sympathy for him and grab his “hurt” hand, but I didn’t go for it. I was thinking that he must have been an idiot for letting it hit him all 6 times… seriously? This guy hadn’t learned his lesson yet? lol…oops. Overall, it was so magical and couldn’t have been more perfect!

We had planned on having a Disney wedding, but my family talked us out of it... plus (although I hate admitting this part) it was too expensive. My fiance and I have expensive taste and every location or theme that we loved was just too much $$$$.

Take our "Everest" wedding for example. To have the reception in front of Everest was a $3,000 site fee. Then there was a $10,000 Food and Bev. Minimum. THEN it was mandatory to rent the ride as well and that's another $8,500. (wait it gets better) THEN the DJ was no longer $1,500... it became $6,500.... so without linens, flowers, dresses, limos, photography, etc. our total would have been $28,000 which was our whole budget. It would have been gorgeous though! lol

So then we switched to a ballroom at the Yacht and Beach Club but we needed to spice things up so we decided on a pirate bash! It looked AMAZING (see the fun pictures below) but again, when we asked for prices things got out of control... it was cheaper than everest, but... actually I dunno why we decided against it.

Either way, we're now having an at home Disney wedding. It really upsets me (don't tell anyone, but sometimes I cry about it) BUT I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible about it. We've having it at a Vineyard on Long Island... here are some pics of the coctail hour

We're trying to incorporate Disney as much as possible (since its a HUGE part of the story of us)

This is LONG so I'll stop for now :)

P.S. I'm HUGE on pictures... hope its ok :)

Oh my goodness, that was one of the cutest first date stories I've ever heard. :lovestrucYou two are adorable. I wish I could give you a Disney wedding, just because it's a perfect fit for you both! :wizard: But the location you've picked out is very pretty as well and has lots of potential to be Disney-ified. I can't wait to see more pictures and hear more of your story! Congratulations! :bride:

Aww thank you :) You're so sweet!

Yay, I'm so glad that you started a PJ! And I love that you're getting married the day before me, also on Long Island! Those pictures of your reception place are beautiful. Can't wait to hear more about your plans and your Disney theme!

And that first date story is absolutely adorable. It sounds like so much fun, and such an interesting way to meet each other! I'm a little jealous you got a guy with an accent :rotfl: I studied abroad in England for a semester, and when I signed up to do it I was really hoping I would be able to get a British guy while I was there. But then I met DF a few months before I left for England, so I got rid of that plan! But I'm pretty glad I did ;)

OMG! I totally just came up with an idea... if you wanna borrow my centerpiece things for your wedding, you're welcome to. You'd have to see them, of course, so I'll post pics, but if you're game then they're yours for the borrowing. :)

and I think part of why I fell for him... the accent makes me melt so we don't fight :)

Invitations

I ordered invitations in February... LOVE THEM SO SO MUCH! I wanted something unique AND Disney and finding both was difficult. I did SO much research and eventually saw something I liked. I, of course, had to Disnify it. After a few revisions this is what we came up with :)

ITS A TOWEL!!! like a hand/dish towel! here is a bad pic of it ...

My vision was that people would be drying their dishes with it and then say "Oh my gosh! I forgot to RSVP!" and then they would mail me their response... :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

since the invites were so awesome, I didn't want the RSVPs to be boring, so I spiced them up too :)

Adorable first date story!!! And...

OMG THOSE ARE THE BEST INVITATIONS EVER!!!!! I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!! I would totally use that every day. Can I come?!??!?! :) :) I think the response cards are AMAZING too! Your personalities certainly shine through... I can't wait to hear about the engagement!

I also wish I could give you a Disney wedding! BUT, I do think your vineyard is gorgeous. Hmmm. You know, Belle is in France, so you know she totally knows her way around a vineyard...

Wow, the Vineyard is STUNNING! Gorgeous venue. And I love the towels!

If we could work something out, that would be very cool! It'll just be close with the timing and all, and I think I may have to drop off most of my decorations the night before... but if we can work it out that would be exciting! :goodvibes

And I love those invitations! They are so fun and unique, I have never seen anything like that! The RSVP cards are hilarious, too ;) My mom probably would have freaked the same way, she was dissecting my invites to make sure that everything was capitalized in the right places and all...

Very cute story! And isn't facebook great? That's how my df and I reconnected :)
And I love the vineyard! It looks amazing! Sorry about the Disney wedding, but the at home will be lovely!
Your invitations are adorable! And I love the RSVP's!
Can't wait to hear more!!! :goodvibes

Thanks! I'm so glad you like them! and of course you can come! Thanks for the offer for the disney wedding:hug: I love how you guys see how perfect it was, but my mother is all "Just do Disney in NY... whats the difference?" Me: "HUGE difference mom... doesn't even compare!"

And thanks for trying to link Belle to my wedding... it made me laugh. :) You're awesome :)

I think I was so excited about it that I didn't think about the logistics of it all... I was thinking about it in bed last night. I was like "hm... if she comes to my wedding she can take stuff then - o wait! The rehersal dinner. Um.... Oh! I can bring it to her the next day- wait its an afternoon wedding and we're having a day after brunch..." So it may not be possible, but if you think of anything the offer is still good :)

And I'm glad you like the invites and the RSVP card :)

The Dress

Picking a venue on Long Island was a nightmare... I kept compaing everything to Disney and not being satisfied .I went to 29 places and finally settled on The Vineyards (#30) because it was the only one I walked through and smiled (you'll notice that this is how I pick things) PLUS the Bridal manager is a DVC member :) and every time I go to make a payment, he talks about Disney :)

So when I started dress shopping I expected it to be the same... try on billions of dresses and just not being happy. Well I was pleasently surprised! The second time I went to try on dresses, I asked if they had the Disney alfred angleo dresses since we met in Disney. I ended up telling them the story and the manager of the store (who was wearing bunny slippers!) loved it! She brought me right to the section and gushed about how she loved Disney.

SIDE NOTE: Whenever I tell people how we met, they always say "You should have had a Disney wedding" It drives me nuts because I just told them I wanted one, and now they make me feel worse...lol

Anyway, after the manager said we should have had a Disney wedding, I tried on the Tiana dress and smiled. That was it! Simple! Done! PLUS it was Disney... woo hooo! One less thing to worry about!

Shoes

So these are the shoes I got... LOVE em!

I'd love to get these for the reception, but I don't know when I'll be back at Disney (I refuse to buy them online since I get a cast member discount)

The dress is beautiful, the Vineyard looks amazing, those invites are the coolest ones i have ever seen, and the RSVP omg I was laughing so hard almost had an asthma attack lol :rotfl2: can't wait to read more :thumbsup2

Your dress is amazing! The Vineyards look amazing too. Can't wait to read more. popcorn::

I loooove the Tiana dress! It looks SO good on every bride I've seen it on! And the shoes?! Love them!

But you NEED those mickey mouse slippers. Do you have any? My fiance and I bought them on our first trip to Disney and still have them. (I wear them when I'm in my emo-I-miss-Disney moods) They're SO comfy and silly!

Yeah, haha it would be tough. It's too bad we're not a little bit closer, or at least have a day in between :goodvibes Oh well! I'm sure we can still get ideas from each other. :)

Wow, I can't believe you went to 29 venues! I only visited one on Long Island, and a few in Pennsylvania (where my fiance is from). I thought we'd definitely end up in PA, since Long Island prices can be crazy, but the caterer is a friend of my dad's and we got a great deal, and I'm happy I'll be able to have a Long Island wedding.

And yay! :woohoo: for the Tiana dress! I bought my dress before that line came out. I would've loved to try on both Tiana and Belle though.

Hiya! I'm subbing into your PJ :goodvibes

Your story is wonderfulThe Vineyard looks stunning, very beautiful.
I adore your invites and response cards are brilliant. Great choice on the dress... seriously! I love love love that dress and the shoes!

anyways, looking forward to hearing more of your wonderful plans. You get married a month before I do & you have so much done already. Makes me think I should get my backside into gear :lmao:
