Meghan Markle…

I did not expect all the hate from this board - interesting. Just what do you expect Harry and Meghan to do with their lives? He's not in line to the throne and neither of them seem to be the type that would be content just playing the part of the doting royal in-laws. "Escaping" to a place like Montecito seems like a pretty ideal move if you ask me. Good for them. AFAIC, it is the royal family that should be more supportive - or at least understanding.

I have been watching - at least the first couple of episodes. It's not bad. I do wonder how much help she is getting behind the scenes. I do find her to be a lot more believable than the Kardashians. Anybody that believes that anything they do is not entirely scripted - ho boy, do I have a bridge to sell you!

What I find the most believable (and enjoyable) is the sit down she has with each guest once they have finished cooking. So that is how the people in Montecito live - OK.
Harry is still 5th in line for the throne. If anything happens to William & kids (God forbid), then it is Harry. He is also still Counselor of State, meaning he can still stand in for Charles if needed.

Harry probably really wants to be a royal (without the downsides) again, he is not the man for commercial engagements. He is probably happiest when he does promote his charities. And it is what he is good at.

Now it is up to Meghan to earn the money. And there is no other way than go commercial.

It is far from the original plan. But the original plan was not interesting enough and/or would not bring in enough money.
"Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope."

Making inspirational family programming is important to them as is “powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.” They said that Netflix’s reach will help them “share impactful content that unlocks action.”

So I saw that Roy Choi was one of her guests so I watched that episode today and enjoyed it. We’ve been to his restaurant in Vegas and it’s amazing. They had really good banter since they both grew up in LA. She seemed very natural with him. A good episode.
More reviews have noticed that. Meghan gets better when she is the student, not the teacher.

That would probably have improved the series if they went the route of Selena Gomez who is there to learn in her show, plus they donate money to a cause chosen by the chef. That would combine Meghan's commercial and her charity ambitions.

I haven't seen Meghan's show since I currently don't have Netflix. But, one of my favorite YouTuber's who is a dietician who specializes on helping us make easy meals made it for us and gives her review:

Meghan's inaugural collection from her lifestyle brand As Ever sold out entirely in less than an hour. Someone is watching....and more importantly, someone is buying.

Or there was a super limited amount so it’s basically a pr stunt to brag that it sold out in an hour.
That plan was actually leaked shortly after her product announcement, before items were available for purchase.

That doesn't mean her products are terrible. It's tough to break into a crowded market, exponentially so when grocery prices are at such a pinch point and your product sells at a stiff premium. If the quick sell out is used simply as a marketing tool, smart business.

If it's used as a resume padding to continue to bolster the narrative campaign of myth building around her it will be evidence to me she's smoke and mirrors, selling a tall tale with no credibility.

The people who pinch for groceries (or the people who make fun of the cookware from the show) are not her target consumers.

Narratives are often misinterpreted.
It's kind of hard to hide behind that when those responsible for doing 90-percent of the schilling of her narrative are her husband and herself directly out of their own mouths.

Curiously the details of the sold out product line are reminiscent of the second season order of her series -- that was all shot at the same time as "season one". What's the saying, the devil's in the details?

the most common complaint from purchasers so far is of her 'fruit spread'. I guess she really promoted a mantra of 'jam is my jam' so when people saw this item being marketed as a 'spread' they assumed more of a jam or preserve consistency or at least similar to what she presented herself making on her show. in reality the product is (per the reviews and videos showing the actual product that arrived via orders) much more runny like a syrup so it doesn't lend itself well to 'spreading' (people complain it makes bread soggy). people have also not been enthusiastic about the taste but they have been forthcoming that they think it may be b/c the consistency is off for them.

I suspect she did an initial very small launch so the proof in how successful it is will have to be in how many return customers/demand there is when it becomes more available.
