Meghan Markle…

You have the opportunity, but if you wouldn't work there, would you still do this? Was this on your mind before you started to work there?
sorry that this country girl does not think that was the gotcha against Markle you seemed to think it would be... Yes I would still purchase local honey. Perhaps not collect it, but why you would find fault for someone teaching about beekeeping/ honey production? It does not magically appear on the shelves. It is something that is very important to our agriculture and farming communities. Many farmers here keep hives on their property.

I live in a rural area, that is known for being the home of the Langstroth hive. Here there are multiple apiaries that would allow you to visit and help collect honey. Perhaps you do not have a relationship with the bees in your environment like we do, but it is not abnormal but traditional

I was not trying to insult you or trying outsmart you. I wasn't looking for a gotcha. I am not saying you are abnormal. If I would use a word for it, it would be 'unusual', meaning 'not what most people do', and that isn't a bad thing.

You having bees on your doorstep due to your work and living in the area you mention makes you probably different from many people. You have the opportunity and might have had the opportunity all your life, like the people in your area.

I personally think that the majority of the US and probably the (western) world in general does not have access to interact with bees or would ever think about interacting with bees. It do not believe it is within frame of reference for many people, like it is for you.

And that is exactly the point who Meghan/Netflix is trying to attract?
Does she want to show tips & tricks for things/activities people can do themselves, or is it just to portray an image of something that is not within reach for most people? I just read that the pans she uses start from 300 dollars and the plates from 68 dollars per piece. Is that within reach for the people who are going to watch this show?

The show seems to be aimed at American women who have the means to spend time and money on beautifying their environment. Are there enough to make this show a success?

The set up of this show reminds me of this scene from Enchanted 2. (I can also see Harry in the role of Patrick Dempsey ;-) )

A lot of people follow social media accounts/watch TV shows that aren't "realistic" to their own lives. That's why Real Housewives is such a large franchise. I like watching Disney vlogs on YouTube and while I'm local and visit all the time, I'm never going to stay at the Poly bungalows, or a club room at the Grand Californian, or a suite on Disney Cruise Line, etc. etc. But I love watching those videos anyway.

people love things they cannot normally access or afford... that is a huge energy push behind social media and influencers. So much of TV and movies is about showing regular folks how the extra live.... remember lifestyles of the Rich and Famous with Robin Leach?

What I do think is different from those shows mentioned, is that Meghan's show is meant to inspire. Real Housewives are not meant to inspire people to live the life they do. They probably wouldn't want you to ;-)

This is the promotional text:

"This inspiring series reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming, bledning practical how-to's and candid conversation with friends new and old. Meghan shares personal tips & tricks embracing playfulness over perfection and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected. She and her guests roll up their their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same".

She/Netflix wants to inspire you to do as Meghan does. And probably buy the products Meghan uses.

Strangely enough, Meghan's lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard is not mentioned anywhere, but it was assumed that the show would promote Meghan's products.
Even if this was assumed wrongly, at a certain point in time her lifestyle brand will be available to purchase. They must hope that this show creates a following who will buy her products.

I live in the same area. It's not that uncommon for people here to have their own bees, chickens, geese, cows, horses, goats, llamas, etc. on little hobby farms. These aren't rich people playing around, either, just your average homeowner.

I'm one of those people that loves watching all of the royal events because I enjoy seeing the pageantry, traditions, and of course...the Crown Jewels, but I've never really cared much beyond that. Like, I never could understand people's obsession with Diana. I remember watching her wedding to Charles as a young kid and it was sort of cool when we visited St. Paul's and I got that vibe that I was walking through history, but I don't really care about the drama behind the scenes. Not that I want anyone hurt or worse, but I've just never been interested in all of this tell-all stuff that they've been doing.

I'm sure it's cathartic and cleansing to get it all out, but to tack on a lifestyle show after all of that definitely feels like it's crossing into money grab territory. Like maybe the money has stopped flowing in as quickly from their previous revealing releases, so now they need to reconfigure and find a different approach. A lifestyle show sounds like something that she's dreaming will lead into publications and merchandising that will keep them flush with cash. I know Martha Stewart was brought up, but I keep thinking about Joanna Gaines. Of course, her success with all of her merch and side businesses was because she is generally considered pretty likeable. Maybe Martha IS the better example, because many do find her to be stuffy and elitist (although, her relationship with Snoop has softened this), but she's still been wildly successful. Either way, I won't be watching.

I'm not her target audience. Every project involving them strikes me as calculated and curated to within an inch of its life, absolutely zero genuine, organic realness, so zero interest. Give me straightforward, not polished up with perfectly lighted and soft filtered gazes into the camera with carefully dribbled details artfully designed to beatify "quietly".

Don't give me royal family with bigger budget glam team, scriptwriters, choreographers and staff. Dig in, get your hands dirty, sweat, fumble things. Try and learn what you don't know and actually help instead of standing by with practiced expressions, above it all. At least the royal family has the excuse of theoretically being constrained by actual positions and systems. There's no explanation for what these two are doing in America besides attempting to create the exact construct they want for themselves, played under no one's rules but their own, desperately hoping "popular demand" will make fetch happen.

I am not a fan of Harry and Meghan's. At all. I have no interest in watching this or any other of their productions or in reading Spare. The only one of their projects I am interested in is "Elephant" because DS6 loves elephants.

I will probably put it on while I'm cleaning or going through emails or something to check it out. If I remember correctly, she had a "lifestyle blog" called Tig or something like that. I guess it was all about healthy living, healthy eating and yoga etc.

I remember reading that she took it down when she married Harry. There were some pictures of her doing headstands in a bikini which I would guess the royal family did not care for. Kind of like the pics of Kate on boats in bikinis and walking around in mini skirts when she first was dating William. She got makeover pretty quickly to a more dignified look.

I think this is her type of thing and it seems to make her happy. What I didn't care for was the celebrity guests. I would rather see just Meghan and some close friends that are not famous, or some family, or local experts in whatever she is talking about. I think she would come off as more real that way, It seems the celebrities are gushing over her and it just seems like trying too hard or something. But maybe they wanted to make it more appealing by adding in celebrities.

Called it.

The message? Meghan, who once railed against societal expectations for women, now finds fulfillment in the role of homemaker.

That is going to be the main thing in every review once the series is released. Feminism and equal rights vs homemaker.

Again, not a bad thing. As a society we should accept more that being a SAHM/F is a choice you should be allowed to make. But probably it will clash for reviewers.

The Daily Mail spoke to someone who saw a preview of the series. As there were assumptions Meghan wanted to be the next Martha Stewart. I am not an American and not very familiar with Martha. Is below description similar to her shows? It sounds like a filmed pinterest board.

From the article:

With Meghan’s new venture previously rumoured to be a cookery show, viewers might have been expecting her to reinvent herself as a Nigella-style Kitchen Goddess for a new generation.
But according to sources who have seen a preview of the series, the Duchess of Sussex won’t be seen going through recipes step by step and measuring out ingredients.

Instead, the show – titled With Love, Meghan – will be a ‘how-to’ guide to entertaining, offering inspiration and ideas for those who aspire to be the perfect hostess.

The source said: ‘There is no point at which Meghan says “take 200 grams of flour” or anything like that.

‘It’s a very magical and beautiful guide to hosting and entertaining rather than a how-to cookery show. It’s about inspiration – more like, “Why not try and make this kind of pasta or this kind of dessert”.
