Has anyone ever rode the Megabus? Specifically into Chicago. I am thinking of surprising my family with a trip and if we could go for such unbelievable rates, that would help! I do not know what the bus is like though......

We have taken the Megabus to Chicago from Detroit. It is great! My Mom, Sister & I did a girls weekend last summer. It is a double decker bus. It did have a bathroom on board. We stopped once at a rest area to use the restrooms. Very clean & very easy. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

I haven't used Megabus personally but my daughter has ridden on Megabus multiple times. Unfortunately she has not taken it into Chicago so I cannot give you any specifics about your travel destination.

My daughter has always been very happy with her travels on Megabus but she was traveling as a college student so no family or child experience here. She generally used it between St. Louis and Kansas City. Megabus does not have terminals, they have a bus stop with a sign. Everything is done electronically and you cannot purchase tickets from the driver.

We did have occassional issues with the bus running late. During one or two trips the driver showed a movie on the bus. There were no scheduled stops but the driver always made one stop whenever he/she felt like it. Sometimes the bus would stop for a food break just outside the departure city and sometimes the break would be shortly before the arrival city so it was not possible to plan if she should eat before leaving or not.

The buses were always clean and she felt safe riding them. Beyond that I can't help much but since you hadn't received any other replies yet I wanted to give you the little info I knew.

I took the megabus from Indy to Chicago. It was great and the price was amazing, but I'll warn you that there is very little leg room. I couldn't open my laptop to a 90 degree angle because of the seat in front of me. I'd do it again in a heartbeat though!

I have taken Megabus before but Boston to NYC run. The bus was clean including the restroom, the driver was friendly etc. We liked the view from the front top of the double decker. There were seatbelts but they may have been lap belt only. I'm using them again in April. I actually snagged a $1 seat for my sister who is coming for just a few days. In Boston the arrival/departure point was Back Bay but it just switched back to South Station which is where is originally started. In New York arrival and departure are at two different locations near Penn Station.
