So we have done WDW now for 3 years and looking at doing something a little diffrent.

We are looking at visiting Disney Land in LA and universal Hollywood.

My basic plan would be to fly to LAX go to Disney the next 2 days then universal then fly to moc.

How possible is this?
Any one done this kind of trip?
Any ideas on which hotel to stay at?

Thanks every one.

I went to DL in June with my American friends - we had three days in the two disney parks which i think you probably need to do everything. We stayed at a hotel (off-site) which was literally across the street from the DL entrance - called the Del Sol Inn - it was cheap with free wifi and free breakfasts. Nothing special but clean and hard to beat for location! Looking at the traffic you definitely want to be in walking distance!!!

I did similar in 2007 but included Universal - can't remember much about it, but do remember preferring it to the Orlando version!

Thanks for your help. I'll have a look at that hotel. Think I just want a cheap place.

My plan is
Day one - fly
Day two - Disney land
Day three - California adventure.
Day four - universal/fly to Orlando.

What's the best way to get about?

We did a CA/FL trip in July.

We did 4 nights in CA which gave us 3 full days in the DL parks which we found to be the minimum we would have needed and we got to spend some down time at the resort.

We said we would do another night at DL if we did it again.

CA was very expensive in comparison to FL. Even offsite food at chains was more expensive by around 10-20%.

We got Super shuttle to take us to and from the airport and just walked around at DL. We stayed at the VGC.

You lose a day to the flight over from CA to MCO too.

We've done it twice and both times have stayed at the Disneyland. Each trip we stayed in California for six nights so that we could spend a day off site - first time we went on a full day tour seeing the touristy sights. This year we spent a day in Hollywood and visited Venice Beach. Flights down to MCO with Delta are very frequent and on our first trip we flew early morning getting to WDW mid afternoon. This year we opted for a later start and arrived at Disney after midnight.

I would say you need two days per park in DL to fully experience everything.

In June we are flying to LGW>MCO with Thomas Cook, then next day flying to LA with Delta, 6 Nights in LA inc DL for 3 days. Then back to MCO for 2 weeks in Beach Club. Then Fly MCO to LGW with TC again.

Managed to get all flights for 2 people for £2000, inc Premium on the Atlantic Flights. Found it's much cheaper to fly in and out of MCO and then MCO >LA and back internally.

The flights to and from LA are plentiful, we've opted to take early flights each way to maximise time.

That sounds like a great trip! I never thought about flying to MCO first before going to LA. For us being in the north we have to go via London so it's just as easy to do the Dublin route. Next summer we're flying to MCO first and then on to Vegas. I would have prefered Vegas first but it was far more expensive.

Yeah will be an amazing trip.

The West Coast flights are so much more expensive direct than MCO, so we've basically done our own indirect flights :)

We flew in to LA, picked up a car and drove to Anaheim, stayed here http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxoc-fairfield-inn-anaheim-resort/ for three nights. The hotel was great, two queen beds, small fridge and everything else we needed.

Then we spent that evening and the following two days in the DLR parks. After the third night we drove to Six Flags Magic Mountain for the day, then moved to a hotel in LA. We stayed in downtown LA, which was a mistake, there was nothing much there. Spent a day sightseeing LA including walk of fame, chinese theatre etc and took a bus to Santa Monica (took forever to get back to central LA!) We drove to Universal as we did the VIP tour with parking included (VIP tour was great!). Otherwise we might have taken the Metro.
After the third night in LA we went to Ontario Mills shopping outlet and drove to Vegas.

With regard to LAX - Disney - LAX transport.
Last year we flew into LAX from London, spent four nights at the Grand Californian and then flew out of LAX to Vancouver to join a cruise.
We used the Disneyland Express (run by Gray Line) to get to and from the hotel. The cost for the two of us, roundtrip, was USD96.
We were very pleased with the service.

We have been to DL 3 times - twice staying off property at Hojos on Harbour which was about 10/15 mins walk to the parks. The middle time we stayed onsite at Grand Californian. Although being onsite had its advantages we were happy to go back to off site the following year as everything is so close. If you are off site just make sure you have a hotel in walking distance or which has a shuttle as the traffic is really busy and there is a walk from the parking lot.

As mentioned above we used Grayline to get between LAX and the hotel which was really easy.
If you don't want to hire a car while there Grayline do trips to other places - we used them to go to San Diego Zoo, Sea World and Knotts park and Dfi also used them to go to Universal and Hollywood when he went before we were together.

The 2 parks are so close to each other - literally minutes apart so park hoppers are really worth while rather than thinking of one park per day as you can go from one to the other if its busy or if one park closes early/ opens early etc.
Early mornings are a must in DL as its very much a locals park so it gets busier as the day goes on
Although there are only 2 parks there are more attractions in each park so trying to do them in 2 days would really be a struggle.
