A quick question about medication in carry-on luggage.

My daughter takes several medications for ADHD on a daily basis. I usually divide the medicine in the day-by-day containers and don't take the original bottles to save space and make it convenient.

Will this be a problem at the airport? Do I need to pack the original bottles or can I do the day-to-day container?

Thanks in advance!:sunny:

I can sympathize, my son takes five different meds a day, and keeping track can be a tad confusing at times!

If you are travelling domestically there is no restrictions on having meds in original containers. That said, I would leave them in the original containers. They don't take up that much room, and if there is a medical emergency you will be able to simply hand the containers to the doctors rather than trying to remember the names of the meds and dosages.

How easy is it to:

1. Photocopy the labelor brochure or instructions that comes with the medicine, and take the day to day containers?

2. Or move all the pills except the ones ou need out of the original bottles (INTO LABELED alternate containers) and take the original bottles with just the quantity of pills you need?

Also bring copies of prescription forms, also in case you need to refill a prescription.

Once in while an arline ay take your bag to be gag=te checked. If so, stop right there on the spot and remove the medicine to carry on board.

Your pharmacist will be happy to print out an extra set of labels for all your Rx drugs; they will just have *duplicate label* printed on them. My pharmacy gives me 2 copies anyway when my scrips are filled; I use one for my FSA account claims, and put the other copy in a file for my records. Keeping a set of these in an envelope in your handbag will take care of any questions that might arise in an emergency situation. The airline and TSA will not ask if you are travelling domestically, unless there are a LOT of meds and you make the mistake of just doing the random baggie toss method. (Lots of miscellaneous pills in a baggie do look suspicious.)

It is usually much easier when travelling to take the pill case instead of the original vials, but always do bring an extra 2 days supply in case there is some sort of delay, or if you inadvertently drop one into the sink drain! I always carry my pillbox and my contact lenses in my handbag instead of my carryon.
