Finally we are able to look forward to our holiday in 3-weeks time. For the last 3-months it has been on hold while mum has been in and out of hospital with various heart conditions. She started of with a chest infection, that turned into Myocarditis, which caused the start of coronary artery spasms. As you can imagine, she is now on a serious amount of medication, but has been given permission by her cardiologist to fly/travel, although we did have to fork out £400 for single-trip travel insurance. :scared1:

Anyway, she has about 20 different medications to take with her, as well as a wheelchair!!! We are going to the doctor's today to get a letter stating all her medications, as well as a letter to say she is fit to fly. We will get these either from the doctor or cardiologist, but probably both just to cover ourselves! We are also using the Virgin Special Assistance service too.

What I wanted to know was if anyone else had an experience of going through immigration with so much medication and if there is anything I have forgotten to get/do in order to get us through with the least amount of hassle?

If you run a search there was a similar thread to this one. From what I remember they were quite a few people taking a lot of medication and not one of them had any problems. They all advised having the proper packet with the prescription label with the name of it.

My dad has both types of arthritas as well as many other types of illnesses and has had to take ketamin injections as well as lots of tablets through immigration and has never had any problems with taking them through immigration, as long as you have the letters there shouldnt be a problem as even with new liquid restrictions which affected my dad with his ketamin which he needed with him in hand bagage we still had no problems as long as you have medical letters, my bestfriend is also a diabetic and has never had any problems. I hope you have a great trip. :goodvibes

i always have a carry-on full of several months worth of medication, since none of it is sold in the US...
but since it's all for me, it doesn't matter...

no one has ever cared....and that's with medicine that isn't even approved by the FDA for sale in the US..

Thanks for the replies everyone. I thought we had everything covered, but just wanted to check. Thank you all :goodvibes

Just a heads up. You'll pay for a letter from the GP for this. It's not an NHS service to do a letter in this capacity. And the cardiologist probably won't do a letter regarding medication; maybe for the fitness to fly but not the medication.
