I was told you can do a medical request for a building/location, if you don't need a handicap room. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Yes, you can make a “medical request.” Know that it isn’t guaranteed. If there is a bookable category that meets the request you would need to book that room category; for example a Preferred room at POP will get assigned a building “close to dining and transportation” - so making the request with a standard room reservation will not get a preferred room.

If it’s really important that the request be fulfilled, try to find a way to book what you need - either by booking category or maybe a different resort.

Enjoy your vacation!

Yes, I have done that (book a category that will take me closest to limit my walking within the resort). But if there are a few buildings within that category, to request one over the other based on medical preference.

I know I was told by DVC MS that you can't at OKW. Oh, I mean you can REQUEST first floor, but not guarantee it. I have bad knees and can't climb stairs, so I wanted to put in a medical request for first floor. Don't need a HA room, and don't want to take one from someone who needs it. But, unfortunately, they told me that you could only guarantee first floor by reserving HA accessible. However, if you mean REQUEST, not GUARANTEE, yes, I suppose you can request anything. Sadly, once we heard that, our OKW days are in the past-too bad as it's DH's favorite resort.

We were able to make medical requests that were related to both the location of the room and the room itself through Disability Services. There is a special form they fill out; the requests are NOT entered in the normal small "requests" box that the reservation CMs normally use for requests.

Our requests were granted, although for our last trip we ran into issues with Disability Services relaying the room-related requests to the hotel, which was explained to us as an internal communication failure on Disney's part. It was caught (because at checkin in person I confirmed they had received and were actioning the request) and fixed, but we were delayed getting into our room by a few hours.

If it matters, our location requests were not mobility-related.
