meal sharing?

I'm a first-timer and I had read here that some families split meals to save money, especially places where the servings are huge. I was wondering if this was only at counter service or is this acceptable at sit-down dinners too? Do all restaurants have large portions or just some? None of us are big eaters and I hate to see good food go to waste (and waste money too). Any advice please?
Thanks
Diane.

The first (and only) place we asked to split an entree was at Tony's at the MK. My husband and split an entree and they even split the salad for us!! The server even let my mother order from the children's menu because the portions are so large there. We tipped the server extra for being so accomodating.

I don't know about the other sit-down places but it never hurts to try!!!

DD (8) & I split meals EVERYWHERE, neither of us are big eaters, but especially her. Some places split it for you and some just bring an extra place.
I also used Connections vouchers and most of the time, there was even food left over.

Rainforest Cafe, Brown Derby, Flame Tree BBQ, Beaches & Cream, Peppermarket, Comic Rays....etc. etc. the only places that you can't share is at buffets or "family style" places such as Character Meals. If your going to share for adults, you may need an extra side of something (fries, salad) but I think even the "kids meals" at counter service are large enough for 1 adult.

Not only did we share portions at WDW sit-down restaurants, but share our meals at sit-down restaurants all the time. We've never had anyone bother us when we ask for an extra plate! (Like another poster said, this doesn't work at Buffets and on refill items like soda.)

I think rest. are getting more used to this as more and more people try to eat less and portions are so huge. I do this all the time and can not remember anytime some one acting weird about it ( in the "real" world not just at WDW)

We just did this a couple of weeks ago.

DD8 and I were at the Whispering Canyon Cafe for lunch. I already knew that we wanted the fried chicken meal. It came with three pieces of fried chicken, fries, baked beans and corn on the cob. I just ordered one meal and told the server we would be splitting it (She replied, "very good idea.") and automatically brought two plates when she brought our meal. We still had room for dessert and split the chocolate mousse cake (wonderful!!). Our total bill was less than $20.00. It was great!!

I wouldn't hesitate at all to do this.

We did this a bunch at counter service places. Either I ordered a kid's meal with her or we split an adult entree (like chicken strips).

DH and I split meals everywhere!!! Unless the portion is small and we know this in advance. We've split at Artist Point, Teppanyaki, Le Cellier, Citrico's, Narcoosies, Rose & Crown, Concourse Steakhouse, Beaches & Cream, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Shula's and Kona Cafe.

I split the awesome appetizer platter with my friend at the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney one night for dinner. I believe the price was around $15. It came with chimi cha chas, crab dip, chicken tenders and calamari. We both ordered "girlie" frozen drinks. I thought the waiter might be P.O.'d that we only ordered one appetizer tray and nothing else but he was very polite and did not rush us. We tipped generously and left stuffed.

Also since we did alot of snacking around WDW for counter service meals we would order one combo meal at counter service restaurants and two drinks. This was plenty of food and left enough room for an afternoon snack.

I don't think this would work for two big guys but two adult females did not feel deprived at all and actually let us experience more food.

We also made a meal off of the pork and shrimp egg rolls (less than $3 a piece) in Adventureland at the MK. Hot and Yummy!
