ME and luggage?

We are going next month and have 3 kids , 17 months, 7 and 8.

If I put the ME tags on my luggage, can I still pick it up at Baggage claim?

I'm thinking we will need to just bring our bag with us on ME so we'll have it when we check in. I'm afraid my bags will be late and I'll
need something for the baby.

It would only be one large suitcase, possibly two. Is it frowned upon to just bring your bags on ME??

If we just pick our luggage up at baggage claim, do we even need to put the tags on??

Thanks!!!!

If it were me, I'd put whatever I thought I'd need for the kids for the first few hours in our carry on bags and let ME deal with the luggage. Especially if I had a car seat, stroller and other stuff to keep track of.

If you decide to get your own luggage and bring it with you to the ME bus, DO NOT use the yellow tags. Bags that have the yellow tags do not go to baggage claim carousels. They are intercepted and sent to the Disney luggage area.

I agree. Especially with 3 young children. I would have what we might need, including any prescriptions in your carry ons. Let ME wrestle with the big suitcases. They will be delivered right to your room. And when you check in, you can have Bell Services keep your carry ons if you wish. No way would I lug my luggage all the way to the ME desk. It can be a long walk, depending on where you land.

If ME tags are on you will not see luggage again until it is in your room.....so if you want your luggage available from the start do not put tags on and go pick them up yourself. we have done that when my Mother was with us.:thumbsup2 then just take them yourself to ME and they will still load for you...or take what you will need in a carry on. we arrive 9 AM so we always have our luggage in room early at resort but if you have a late flight luggage can be delivered late as well. (say a night flight) :confused3

Thanks for the helpful advice!

If we do put yellow tags on and they bring them to our room, how long does it take?

Thank you!

DME-tagged bags do not go to baggage claim. Once they are unloaded from your airplane, they're passed to Disney "behind the scenes."

I agree that putting anything you need the first day in your carry-ons and using DME to deliver your checked bags is the best of both worlds.

Going out of your way to baggage claim and waiting (and waiting and waiting) for your checked bags to appear on the conveyor belt typically means departing from the airport on later DME coach.

Taking the shortest path to the DME Welcome Center and allowing Disney to handle your checked bags means you could be on DME coach while other people on your flight are still waiting at baggage claim. You'll get to your resort sooner and start having fun sooner if you skip baggage claim.

You usually get your bags within 3 hours of checking in to the resort. You don't have to wait for your bags in the room, they will "magically" show up.

I agree with CarolMN and Hopefully. Put anything you may need for the first day into your carry-on. Your luggage is way more likely to be misdirected because of the airline than to be lost by DME. You always want to carry things like medications and valuables in your carryon. Have enough stuff to get you thru the first day, in case your luggage is misdirected.
