MDE App was horrible this trip

People can't get the MDE app to work to check fast passes and ADR's, and now Disney has added the feature to use it to unlock their resort room doors. Thanks, I'll stick to my Magic Band and a printed copy of my itinerary. Or maybe I'll skip the Magic Band and just ask for a good old KTTW card. :)

We just got home approx. a week ago and the MDE app was horrendous the whole time. Didn't show dining/fastpasses. Powering my phone off did not help. I had to remove the app and then download it back onto my phone numerous times. Many times, it said no service inside the parks too. It was extremely annoying.

I noticed "unlock resort door". We wondered the whole trip what that meant. If one of us hit it while at the parks, would our resort room door became unlocked?

If it’s like what I have used at other hotels, no. You have to be fairly close to the door. I just find it to be a lot more cumbersome than using a MB.

I had a lot of trouble with the app last week as well. I spent a lot of time refreshing. It was just so random! One day, we were a party of three with three FP. It only showed one of the FP and only for two people. Then I would refresh a couple times and everything would show up. Ugh!

An alternative is to get on your phone's browser and use the MDE website. We have done that for a couple of years because our phones are too old for the app and the website usually works fine.

No your phone has to be physically touching your door

OK, makes sense. We would look at and all laugh thinking we could unlock the room door from the parks. Most have magicbands, why would someone need a phone to unlock the door???

FWIW, the last time I had an app issue it took a long time to resolve and involved force stopping and uninstalling ALL disney-related apps, restarting, and reinstalling.

No it doesn't. It uses Bluetooth. You just have to be close by, like under a foot away. And you have to have Bluetooth turned on.
Not the times I used it. It only worked when I touched the device on the door. Tried several other distances and none opened it for me

Because it made a cool sound

Probably for the same reason they need a phone to be their alarm clock. Some people just can not function unless they are doing everything through their phone. Like my SIL said about getting a new Washer & Dryer with Wi-Fi capability. "What for? I still need to put in the clothes and soap & move the clothes from the washer to the dryer & then fold it all when it's done. So until the Wi-Fi can do all of that for me I'm not paying for it to be on those machines."

App became a source of stress for me in August, but my husband had a better success rate and we could use his phone to make updates. I use an iPhone and he has Android. Are most people with issues using an iPhone by chance?

This entire thread makes my head spin...
reinstalling, don’t use it, refresh it, ignore the mistakes and assume ur FP’s are there..

disney... pls, get it together!
Guests deserve better.

I am going in a couple of weeks so I was looking at my app and it said there is a new version. I ignored it, until I got a new phone on wednesday. My old MDE app transferred over but when I opened it it gave me the msg again so I clicked on it. It brought me to the play store like it was totally new and I needed to install it, not just update. So I did. When it was done BOTH ICONS were on my phone but the new one looked different. So I deleted/uninstalled the old one. So, the point of my very long story is that maybe the old version, unfortunately timed with your vacation, stopped working altogether?

I just updated mine two days before the trip, so I don't think that was it in my case. I just think the app is glitchy.

We were in the parks two weeks go. MDE app was atrocious inside the parks with an android phone (was totally different for DW's iPhone). We were staying off site in a condo in Kissimmee (I'll never do that again - only did it because we won the week at a school fundraiser - but that's another discussion), and it worked perfectly fine when were in the condo. However, as soon as we set foot in one of the parks I could not do anything on my phone - either with the WDW Guest WiFi or on 4G. Kept saying "weak or no connection". I tried restarting the phone, un-installing and re-installing the app, etc. Nothing helped. Absolutely ridiculous. Fortunately, DW has an iPhone so we were able to adjust and/or make additional FPs.

Its just another option for people. Not everyone likes or wears the MBs. Or if you run out without your MB on and have your phone on you (which most do), its another option for getting in your room. Or if your MB doesn't open the door for some reason, you have a back-up (or vice versa). A lot of the major hotel chains like Marriott have been offering room entry through the app for a while now, so Disney is just keeping up with the times.

LOL... FWIW, I have the washer & dryer that has the app. I can schedule a load to start at a certain time so I'm not leaving clothes sitting in the washer or dryer, and I can see how much time is left on a load so I don't unnecessarily go upstairs to change it (my laundry is on the 2nd floor). I love it! Just like the room entry through the app, its another option for those who find it useful.

MDE app was terrible this weekend too. Constantly missing FP reservations and folks in my party. Annoying.
