MDE app extreme sluggishness for old iphone

My 60 day window opened yesterday am, and to my dismay, the MDE app for my iphone6 initially showed times but blank bottom of screen where FP options would normally be available. Later that day, the glich was gone but even with reinstalls, MDE spins and takes so long for each selection, approx 6 minutes per, that it's useless. I had to use my wife's Samsung Galaxy 5 which worked at a normal pace. I'm actually wondering if I need to buy a newer iphone - maybe 8 or 9, just so I can do FP selections during the Thanksgiving trip. Does anyone know if this is common for the older iphones and will continue or if this issue can be solved another way, maybe clearing a lot of GB space or some other way? I could probably have an browser open to do selections outside of app.

We expected hit and miss success given the busy week, everything filled up pretty fast. We ended up with 3 FoP beg. with day 4, 2 7D, beg. with day 3, only 1 SDD day 9. Thanksgiving and Black Fri were rough for selections.

You may have missed the many reports/posts that, with iOS 13.x, the MDX app is constantly CRASHING, so for some (many... most?) it is virtually useless.

In fact, a major ongoing thread about this is near the top of this forum.

Yes, one "fix" is to use the website.

Hi Robo,
I haven't been on the blogs for some time, thanks. I actually only have IOS 12.4.2 available with my iphone 6. But it sounds like even if I had a newer phone, processing speed might be better but the app will still be slow.

Not sure if this will help but I read an article recently that said the speed and battery life of your iphone can be greatly improved if you do a hard reset on it and wipe everyone off it. I plan on doing this right before my trip in December - I have an iphone 8 that seems to be getting slower and slower no matter what apps I put on or take off of it.

How do you do a hard reset please? I did recently buy a new battery, which is part of the reason I didn't want to get a new phone. I usually wait until my phone breaks before buying new- usually because the battery charge area gets damaged and no longer charges (i.e. by having portable charger hooked in a backpack and cable bends at the port). We're starting to have this issue on my wife's galaxy S5 - no longer charges from the portable charging, wall charger still works. We're looking into buying a new galaxy S8 or S9 online for her. I'd like to not have to buy 2 phones.

iphone 6 only has 16 gb with at least 5-7 being used by the system operator. So I'm always struggling to stay at 13gb of 16 gb used. Thought maybe if I was able to not live with a few of the apps temporarily, it might help until the trip is over.

I thought the update for iOS 13 was only for 6P and above. It might be time to upgrade your phone.

iOS 13 is not available for me w/ the 6. That 16 gb is super low, as much as I don't care about getting new phones. But as far as MDE, sounds like the newer iphones will still have issues - maybe not as extreme as mine though.

Wish I could help I just read the article. I need to go back and figure out how to do the hard reset. One of the things they said to do was to reset it without saving things to the cloud. I just need to figure out how to save my contacts. REally everything else can be added again. My trip isn't until December so probably won't try for it until lat October.

your iphone 6 is 8 hardware generations behind what is new. It is time to upgrade.

with an iphone 8 and iOS 13, how long do you think it takes you to modify an existing FP for an earlier time? It's literally like 6 minutes for me. The spinning on the progress wheel stops for like 2 traffic lights of time and that happens for every step.

A hard reset is just holding down the home screen and the power button until the apple logo appears.

You should do that every couple of days. regardless. It closes all open apps and processes running in the background. Can make a sluggish phone operate a little better.

A properly running phone, with a good internet connection should be instant. If you are doing this in the car, you probably are not getting a good cellular internet connection.

thanks. I have not been doing that. I do swipe to close open apps daily, and only have 1 background app running when not using app. MDE, I only allow to run when in use, like most apps on my phone. Also try to delete as much as I can including messages, VMs, emails, etc. My 60 day FP window started yesterday, so I wasn't aware that it was going to be that slow until then.

I too have an iPhone 6. I am kind of annoyed that apple no longer supports it with new upgrades. The phone still works fine for everything, and does not run out of space. I have had no trouble using the MDE app with it this past week. So grrr to apple. I pretty much have to buy a new one because of the risk that I will no longer be protected when they need to patch vulnerabilities with new updates. But I hate the idea of pitching a phone that is in perfect working order.

I must be using the wrong technology - the article referred to removing everything off you iphone and starting fresh like a new phone. Not the powering off and back on. I power off my phone about once a week. I'm not noticing a big change

I wouldn't have thought powering on and off would do much either.

That's interesting that you have the same phone and was able to access MDE fine. I agree, I don't normally care about having the latest and greatest. I actually should own a flip phone because I've never downloaded a song or movie, or know how to... and don't really utilize smart phones like you're supposed to.

I called internet help desk and they said that they are aware of the iOS 13 trouble and are working to fix the app for iphone users. I know there was an update this wknd, and obviously that didn't help me. But I guess the work around right now is to use the browser version.

We're having to buy a new phone for my wife because her charging isn't working right... really tough to decide to buy 2 new phones at once. We're sort of thinking about buying on eBay from an online cell phone store with free returns. We've always been hesitant to buy anything of real value on eBay, but they seem to have half the retail prices and good reviews.

I can’t tell you as I haven’t done fast passes yet. But it’s been working ok with looking at dining reservations. I haven’t upgraded to iOS 13 yet. I’ll wait until it’s stabilized.
