MCO to begin using the new scanners within next 2-3 weeks

Just read that we're getting them here in NY, so I had to come see what everyone has to say about them...popcorn::

I'll be going through them for the first time in January when we fly out of JFK. I'm curious about the idea of children going through them (DD8 in particular) - not so much for the radiation but for how the personnel will handle Johnny and Suzie going through alone. My kids are older and experienced travellers but I'll still feel better knowing what to expect for next summer.

Anyone gone through with/witnessed kids going through?

Thanks OP for the warning. I could care less as long as the process doesn't take longer. I think the security check at MCO is very unorganized and chaotic. I fly to MCO alot and fly out of Dulles. I'm sure I'll see those scanner there too. I guess I'm a go with the flow kind of person and all I can say is when they see me with no clothes on on the screen, they may have to send the agent for some therapy because I'm sure it's not going to be a pretty sight at all. We fly out next weekend, and will be back 2 weeks after that, so may hit about the time the new scanners start.

Imagine being a airline employee and having to go through these everyday. Having to be screened by the same people everyday. They know what kind of undergarments you wear. What time of the month it is if you know what I mean. Talk about a violation of privacy. My dh says the female flight attendants, ticket agent, and frequent flyers really hate it For those of us that fly every few months its probably not that big of a deal. We will never see the screeners again. Imagine how you would feel if you showed up at work everyday and had to patted down or scanned by a security guard. Maybe thats what this world is coming to. It's a shame nobody protests this stuff. Whats next microchips so they can watch our every move?

They showed the images last night on ABC news. They cannot see what your underwear looks like. The image does not look like a picture of you without your pants and top off. Looks nothing like a nude shot of your body either. These are not images meant to show your body in detail, rather to show what you may be hiding on your body. It is kind of a black and white outline.

People need to remember that flying is not a right, it is a privilidge. If you don't want to go thru the machine, and don't want to be patted down, then don't fly. Your choice. You just have to decide for yourself which is more inconvenient, scanner/pat down, or driving to your destination.

As for those work at the aiport, they need to decide if they are so opposed to the scanners that they want to look for a new job. Again, make the choice if your job is one that you like enough that you will risk being scanned, or if the idea of being scanned is so abhorent that you would rather work somewhere else.

Going through the backspatter machines is not going to be all that different than the regular metal detectors everyone uses now. Yes, you stand there, arms up for about 10 seconds. I would suggest that if you have a child going through one, you go first, show the child how it's 'done' and then they go.

CMH has the new scanners. DH and I traveled with our 4 children in August and they were sending every other person through the new scanner. DH, myself and DS(10) were selected for the scan. Quite honestly, it all happened so fast that he didn't realize that he was going through a different type of scanner ( and he flys twice a year) until after the fact. CMH is not a huge airport and the TSA agents that we have encountered have always been very kid friendly (we do go though the family screening line).

I do have to sit here  becuase the next time there is a attack at a airport or onboard a plane, the folks here complaining about secuirty.......will be the first ones wining and attacking Homeland secruity for not doing enough!

You are very petty people!!!!! and when it comes to me and my families safety...the ho so very minor issue of a pat down or scan doesn't come close!

Yes it does stop them and slow them down...and if it only stops 1 person or child from getting hurt or killed its well worth the ho so minor bag check or pat down inconvence..........

Take a look around at ground zero.....the pentagon..the many terroist that have been stopped.and those are only the ones we have heard about....

You really think they will stop at Disney?........think about your local mall........shops.schools.........the terrorists.,whether they are foreign or home grown. They will attack any where they can.

For the love of PETE lady.get your head out of the hole in the ground you are hiding in!

Qiute honestly..you getting felt up to help keep me and my family safe.........I sure am not going to be losing sleep over that!

AKK

I am sorry if that sounded rude.......but facts are facts.......

I hope some day you have to be patted down everytime you go to work. Then again maybe your the type person that would enjoy this.:lmao:

Nice comment.:sad2:

I am adult enough to know that no one is forced to fly. No one is forced to work at an airport or for an airline.

If you don't want to go thru the screening, or don't want to be patted down, then don't fly. You can make that choice. No one is forcing either option on you.

You are apparently ignorant of the fact that the bag search is not the only thing going on when we enter the parks. The bag search also slows the guests down so that security can look for anyone behaving suspiciously.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to be rude and insulting to try and make your point. You are only undermining your own point of view with such silly behavior.

.
Oh who look whose being insulting. Honestly I fear people like you and big brother more than I fear the big bad make believe terrorists.

Make believe terroists??? Are you serious??? I can't see how.

As I said before, just choose to not fly if you don't want to put up with the security measures. It is no skin off my nose. But there is no need to insult people just because they don't agree with your point of view.

I wish to applogize to the others on this thread..seems I let my naive temper get a lil out of control with the way some people ignore the facts of life these days.

haaa...........Maixies mom.....I didnt post the make beleive terrorist thing .....pagawaning did

Having my bag searched at wdw does not make me feel safer. I am sure there are many people who could manage to walk into the park with a gun in their pocket without looking suspicious. If the scanners aren't that revealing then whats the point maybe they should start doing body cavity searches. I mean you never know where the flight attendants and the "terrorists" might hide stuff these days. Where does it all end only time will tell.

I don't think airline employees should have to look for another job because they don't want to be scanned. Honestly thats riduculous. I suppose you think I should quit nursing because I don't wan't the flu shot forced on me. Not to many people believe in freedom any more I guess.

Okay...I'll bite. Common criminals?? Really? I've been through a full body scanner and I didn't feel violated or like a criminal. It's not all that different than the regular security scanners. I can't understand why someone says it's 'make work' type stuff. I guess they have to have addlt personel to view the 'scans' in that secret room..but other than that, I don't see the addlt work, or time spent.

Is there a better way to do things? I just don't know. Anyone out there have any reasonable alternatives??

Sure, the WTMD and, if an alarm an explosive swab. With the body imager, it takes more time to get the nude picture reviewed and a greater percentage of the passengers end up being "frisked."

The time of the month brings up an interesting question. How do they distinguish between "protection" and hidden explosives like the undie bomber wore?

No, the objectors are not petty.

None of the "plots" to bring down a plane have been stopped by TSA sreeners at checkpoints. None. And that's the truth . . .
images

A smart terrorist would get in the midst of the mob scene that is the lines for the TSA checkpoint on a busy travel day and explode a device there, before the scanners.

It seems we have all been assurred by the recent posters..........Padawans says the terrorist are all in our minds and tcp trips points out that she knows without a question that TSA screeners have never stopped a terrorist!. I am so happy to have posters who know so much about the inner workings of the TSA/ secruity systems and all the threats and terrorist caught that is not made public!

So I think we should just stop the screenings, scannings, pat downs.......all of it........Padawan and CPT trips have promised us there is nothing to fear or nothing to stop the bad folks.

Let the airline pilots and crews in with only there uniforms to prove they are who they are enter the airports and planes....no more stopping passingers....just let them line up to board at the gates...........after all padawana and TCP trips and others for that matter, feel its a waste of time and a invasion of there rights!!

I'll be happy to let them and thier families go on the first few weeks of flights!

Whether its airports or WDW or any event, screeners are trained to observe and do alot more then just look in your bags! As the stated earlier...........I am sure you folks wining will be the first to complain and suit wdw or whatever event if the worse happens, pray the Father it doesn't.

niave people................:rolleyes1

My point being is that nothing is perfect....but the best possible is being done. If you don't want the scanners.......fine.....take the pat down, if you don't want that take the train car or bus.

If you work in a job in a secure area.......you have to go though secuirty.......( and yes princesspeach,if your a nurse, it seems to me you should have enough sense to get a flu shot so you don't pass the flu on to other folks who are sick and weakened)if you work.

My families and other folks safety comes before others minor and petty discomforts!

There is no room for nasty comments on this board. While I understand that there are different views when it comes to airport security, we can discuss it without name-calling and badgering. Just because I have no issues with the current security measures does not mean I'm a 'sheeple' or ignorant of 'real life'. You may have a different opinion. You may feel that the TSA operation is just 'busy work'..you are entitled to that opinion. those of you that speak of 'freedom' see to feel that only certain freedoms are good. We are free to have differing opinions, but we are not free to make others feel stupid because they choose to hold a different opinion.

As of right now, there are specific things that occur at security checkpoints when flying. Do they work?? I really don't know. There are bag checks at WDW park entrances. Do they work? I really don't know. But, just because I have personally not heard or seen something resulting from these proceedures doesn't mean they are ineffectual.
Maybe at some point, down the road, there will be proceedures in place that are not as 'invasive' and that will make more people happy. But I have to say, I have never really felt the security measures at any airport have been so bad. And TSA agents?? I really have run into only one or two who were less than pleasant. I guess I'm just extrodinarily lucky....but have to doubt that. I don't go in loaded for bear, and try to be pleasant to them. I usually get a nice attitude back.
