McDonald's drive thru - are you really going to hand me that?

I am on your side OP. i would have asked for a new order or my money back because i get paranoid about complaining about anything.

It is a violation. Once at mcdonalds they gave us one fry too many and i told them before we pulled away and they said just keep it because they would have to throw it away if i gave it back.

Pet peeve at fast food restaurants........when they hand you the drink with their hand across the lid. I always wipe the lid off because of this. Think germs falling into the drink when you pop the straw in.

I hate that in sit down restaurants, also. There is no lid, but when I worked in a restaurant many years ago, they called that "the eagle claw handling". I hate it when the servers hand my cup or glass to me at the top.

As for giving out the wrong drinks and then trying to give them to someone else, I had that happen at a chinese restaurant here. They got our drinks mixed up with the table across the aisle. We ordered water. At least one of the others at that table ordered sprite. She took a drink and told the server it wasn't hers. The server tried to just switch the drinks since we all had straws anyway. :scared1: I refused politely. The other lady got obnoxious about it. The young server really didn't understand what the big deal was.

How do you know that it was one fry too many?

im pretty relaxed about these things. my wife is always into me about the things i would eat after she would throw them out

but my food got given to someone else at maccas the person then gave it back and I refused to take it. I don't know what's been going on in that car or what their health situation is.

I am surprised that the employee told you no. I worked at fast food restaurants for years while I was in high school and college and if someone requested a new order I would have just done it. It's not my money that I was throwing in the trash.

As for being in that scenario, I don't think it would have bothered me. I just would have taken the food and been on my way.

Wouldn't have fazed me in the least. The employee handed the customer the bag. The customer handed the bag back within 3 minutes or so.

Much ado about nothing.

You are worried about germs, yet you're ordering from a fast food joint. You're kidding me right?

I have done the same thing once myself, so no judgment from my end. I am also a germaphobe, and I am very used to judgment from others when I take an extra precaution or two.

It wouldn't have bothered me at all, although I'm well aware that it is a health code violation in many areas.

I would have been ok with it, but the employee lied to me about the drink, then I would have REALLY OVERACTED and made a big scene

OP here-

I have been around the CB a long time so I knew before I posted I would get a wide variety of responses. I do have thick skin!;)

To the posters who say that the employees handling my food could very well be sick or could have "breathed" on my food or sneezed on it: yes I know that. But restaurants have health and safety standards and rules in place. I have NO idea what standards the lady in the car ahead of me has for her vehicle but I doubt anyone is calling her out on wiping her nose on her hand and handling my drink. There is a better chance of an employee being called out on an offense. YES i know this is McD's we are talking about and YES i know boogers happen. They happens in the best of restaurants too.

I was more upset that the employee lied to me and told me she did not hand my drink to the lady in the car in front of me. I dislike being lied to more than I dislike boogers!

And to the poster (sorry I forgot to quote you and I am too darned lazy to go back and do it now) who said you cannot even believe that I am posting this on a forum - Yes I started the thread but you took the time to read it AND answer it so I'll take that comment with the same grain of salt with which you doled it out thank you!! :hippie:

Honestly after the employee lied to me I would have been over it and asked for my money back. If there was a problem with it I would have then asked for the manager so that person could deal with the proper training regarding health codes, etc...

I agree....you should have taken the food...it was clear it wasnt messed with.

Exactly. To complain and ask for a new order? You may be guaranteeing to get food that IS messed with. I never thought that people actually do things to food until I read a huge thread on reddit with people in food service talking about what they would do to food. Almost enough to make me want to eat at home forever.

If it's the soda that's the problem, pour it into a different bottle or ask for another straw.
