Mazatlan, Mexico

I am terribly sorry that I have not been able to give any more information, but I have been very busy. I hope to be back soon and answer all your questions. Have a great week meanwhile!

In case you haven´t followed up the previous posts, I would like to mention the Mazatlan Aquarium. It is fun for the kids, as they have all diferent kind of fish (fresh and salt water), there is also a nice show with the sea lions, and another one with birds. If you do not want to do much shopping or touring, go there it is a lot of fun! At this moment the cost is $60pesos adults $6us aprox and $30pesos Children $3us aprox. Around the corner is the City Park with swings and slides. It is about a block and a half from Señor Frogs restaurant bar. Have fun if you go there!

If you like to have some fun, like going to an old mezcal ranch where they have a swimming pool, horses you can rent and also have a good lunch, then I would like to recommend this ranch. It was turned into a tourist ranch a few years ago and it is great. Many local families go there on sundays. It is also like a guest ranch where you can stay in rooms or villas. It is around 30 to 40 minutes north of Mazatlan. I am trying to think of alternatives for those travelling on the Magic in summer 2005 and I think this is a good idea. Any questions please ask!

If you do not want to go on a tour or shopping, then perhaps you would like to go to the Aquarium. The Mazatlan Aquarium just celebrated it´s 24th anniversary in September. They did a real nice monument on the new Malecon (seaside walk) and the theme are the sea lions. The Aquarium has all sorts of fresh and salt water fish as well as some nice shows with seals and birds. Plus they have an interesting Botanical garden included in your visit. The cost is $60 pesos (less then $6US) Adults and $30 pesos (less then $3us) children. I recommend going there, it is not huge like sea world but real interesting.
See you in Mazatlan!

It has been a while since my last post and I am terribly sorry, but I have had a lot of work. The high season is starting for us in Mazatlan but of course, I am not complaining. I just wanted to invite you all to ask questions about Mazatlan and I will try to get back to you as soon as I can. There is still plenty of time till some of you get on the Magic down on the Mexican Riviera so please go ahead with questions.
All of you out there, have a great week!

Hockey Heather....sorry if you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Awhile back Maztalan Frank got his thread shut down (he thinks because he posted his web adress on there). He started a new thread to help those of us going down to Maztalan and hasn't mentioned that he is a tour guide and that his services are available to all of us once we get down there. I think you just have to PM him. I was trying to tell you that if you needed more in depth assistance from him than just advice (which is fine-tha'ts why he's posting) he is available.
My intent was to help you...but I'm sorry that I wrote it in a way that made you feel uncomfortable. I hope this clears up the confusion.

Maztalan Frank- I hope me posting this clarification won't jepordize your thread. I was trying to be subtle about your services but I guess I wasn't clear.

I thank you very much for making this clear. I see there was a little misunderstanding but I think it is clear now. Muchas gracias. And as I have said before, any aditional questions please ask!

Have a great weekend!

I lost the thread with the new change, but I think it looks great. Hope to hear from you!

Tony´s on the beach is a great place for lunch or dinner. You can have lunch there and use the beach also. Great shrimp and lobster, Mexican food and food in general! It is run by a family so it is homemade type food. It is in between Caravelle and Fiesta Inn Hotels. Next to another restaurant called the Chili peppers. Be sure that you go the right Tonys, as there are 2 others which have nothing to do with the one I am mentioning. Look for Tony and ask for the first drink complimentary (beer, margarita or soft drink). Have a great time there!

Thanks again! I have a file started with all the tips and things you have given us. We definately like the sound of Tonys. It's on our list.

If you have any other questions, even if you think they are too inocent please ask. That is the only way of knowing things. Plus, I sometimes am thinking what to write about and your questions help me.

All of you out there, have a great week!

Maztalan Frank-Like I mentioned before we're very fortunate to be from an island city...so the beach and sea are no big deal to us. We would like to see the city of Maztalan but have young ones with us. Kids are 2 1/2 all the way to age 9. What would you suggest us seeing? Staying aboard the ship is one option for us...but we really would like to "visit" the city while we're there.

I would like to apologize to those who follow this thread because I have dissapeared. The reason a lot of work (I am not complaining, haha). Again if there is any question I may answer, please go ahead. I will try to check this thread everyday. I wish you the best of the weeks!

Great to have you back! I am sure now that our excursion lists are out, that you will get a few more questions! I know a lot of people don't want to do an excursion because they cost so much money if they have a large family. Is there lots to do within walking distance of the ship? I am looking forward to finding "Tony's" that you mentioned in an earlier post. How close is the city market? Walking distance?

Thanks again.

Bimbo bakery is a huge Mexican corporation that is in many different countries, including the USA. It has been selling bread for over 50 years. I once read that it was the 2nd or 3rd largest Bakery in the world. I know there are many meanings for the word, here it is a brand name and I do not know the definition in spanish (of this bakery:) )

I hope this clarifies everything and there is no misunderstandings :) :D ;)

Have a great evening!

My parents love the Bimbo Pan Tostada (sp?). How far is the bakery from the port and do they give tours in English? We are on the Magic this summer. It will make my parents so happy that I can get them 'real' Bimbo
and not the imitation stuff we can get around here.
TIA

Frank, I'm glad you're back on the DIS. I had to hunt for you on another board. Frank is full of helpful information - and he gets back to you right away...sometimes within minutes of e mailing. I've been working with him for our Summer Cruise to Maztalan. I wanted to do 2 excursions in a day and Frank was flexible enough to work with me and arrange it.

Frank- I didn't realize my DH wanted to go shopping. We want to do 2 excursions, but if time does not permit where is the shopping better? We will be visiting 3 ports P.V., Cabo, and Maztlan. You told us about the Golden Zone. Is this a not to miss shopping spot or is the shopping at the other ports just as good?

I just asked a question without thinking of this thread. Im glad it got bumped up. ;)
Are there any public beaches you would recommend going to that are safe and easily accesible from the port? Im not too sure I want to do an excursion...seems like a lot of money for a few hours on the beach. Or do you think an excursion is a better bet?
Thanks for all your info Mazatlan Frank! :sunny:

I am going to be in Mazatlan the first week of June on the DCL Cruise. What can I expect the weather to be like? I have been told that this is the rainy season. Is that correct? Also how far is Senior Frogs and the Shrimp Bucket from the Golden Zone? I have been told those are two places not to miss.

Can you tell me about Senior Frogs. I'm working on a personalized tour and come from Hawaii where we're surrounded by beaches. I want to do the other stuff while in Maztlan. I know I want to see the cliff divers, the Golden zone and other than that I need ideas. Thanks for posting...it helps me to help the guide.

CamColt- The excursions offered through DCL were on the high side. I am arranging one on my own and finding lots of flexibility. I have never done this before so was a bit leary. The guides are working with each other and with me ( I want to do 2 excursions in a day) at a cost the same cost that Disney would charge me. So, I'm getting 2 excursion outside on my own for the price of one Disney shore excursion. Now, of course if I get left in Maztlan everyone will be laughing. :worship: I've done my research on the DIS and other boards and these people I'm working with come highly recomended so I'm putting my faith in them that they will get me back on that ship in time. I hope I'm doing the right thing. Anyone have any advice before I get left behind : :hourglass ?
