Mazatlan, Mexico

Yes, you can see the cliff divers on your own. Take a taxi there and wait till the tour busses arrive, that way you just give them a tip. If you want to see them when there are no tour busses, then they normally charge between 5 and 10 dollars. A taxi from the ship to the cliff divers should charge around $5us per taxi one way.

Have a look at the Hotel Playa at

I hope this helps you.
Have a great week! :cool1:

MAZATLAN ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE CARRIBEAN BASEBALL SERIES!!!!!!!!

Something important happend yesterday in Mazatlan. The Local baseball team is called Venados de Mazatlan (Mazatlan Deer) and nobody would bet on them on the regular series. They WON the series and got a ticket to represent Mexico in the Caribbean series. Guess where the series was held???? MAZATLAN, of course. They played last week against Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Puerto Rico and they only lost ONE Game. Yesterday they became champions in their homeland! Imagine the people of Mazatlan, we are HAPPY AND PROUD!!!!!!! Now, we will continue with our Carnaval, which started last Thursday and ends Tomorrow. Hurry up and get here today so you can enjoy it!!!!

For those who do not know, we have had Carnaval in Mazatlan officialy since 1898, although they say it started before that. It is a real nice important event. We have many different events, from Cultural to concerts, from fireworks to parades. The major parade is on Sunday and a smaller parade is today. This year they had 33 floats plus people performing in between. It normally lasts 1 1/2 to 2 hours. There is an area called Olas Altas that everynight is closed to the traffic and all the people dance on the streets with all kind of music. It is a lot of fun! Whenever you have a chance come to Mazatlan to the Carnaval, but you must make reservations months ahead of time. It is always the week previous to Ash Wednesday. See you here!

Something I must mention, that many people coming to Mazatlan for the first time do not know, is that the pier where all the cruise ships dock is the same pier where the container, cargo, and oil carriers dock too. There is a lot of movement sometimes, so for safety, they have these shuttles (like the Universal tour) that is complimentary and also mandatory for the cruise ship passengers. They take you from the ship, in 2 minutes, to the Passengers Terminal building. That is where all the taxis, tour busses, tour guides and also they have a little Mercado, some Jewlery stores, a restaurant, a bar and other shops right there. The tram goes back and forth every 5 minutes. Hope this information helps you a little, so when yu arrive here you know where to go.

De nada amigos. I just like to help those who are going to visit this beautiful Port of Mazatlan. It is so nice to be helpful to all these good people. If anyone else has questions please go ahead and ask. This way you are prepared by the time you get here.

Hi Frank,
Have you heard of this tour. If so, is it worth it? Can you bring 2 year olds on these kinds of tours or do they have to be over a certain age?

thanks!!

Stone Island is a nice tour. I am not exactly sure about the one you are asking about. Normally on the Stone Island tour, they take you on a Catamaran for a boat ride for around an hour to and hour and a half. Then you go to the Island and you can have some activities like snorkel, banana ride, horseback riding. They also include lunch on the Island. On these regular Stone Island tours I have seen young children going also. I think they would have fun. Enjoy!

Frank....how big are the catamarans on the Matzatlan tours? How many people do they hold? Are they all different?

Hola Frank,

This thread has a lot of great information thanks for all your help. I have a question about the taxis and also the tram/shuttle from the pier are these wheelchair accessible? Any ideas for someone in a wheelchair who isn't interested in the beach/snorkeling type excursions?

thanks,
Carol

They have diferent Catamarans, I think they seat from 70 to 150 passengers. Most of them have 2 floors and there is even one that has 3 floors, they call it the Titanic. There are diferent companies, some good some so so. It´s like anything else.

The tram/shuttle from the boat to the taxis, does have wheelchair access. They have a ramp that comes down and you can board it. Not all of them have this feature but most do. Taxis do not have wheelchair access. There is only one tour van, maybe two, that have this ramp for a wheelchair. So if you get a regular taxi, you probably have to seat the passenger and put the wheelchair in the trunk. The van has the capability to have the person in the wheelchair and tour around.

I hope this helps a little.

Okay...I'm sure you have answered this somewhere in the last seven pages...but, I can barely read one page! So, Frank I hope you don't mind.

We are traveling with DD who is 4 years old. We are trying to decide between the Sierra Madre tour w/Disney or the Stone Island tour w/Disney. Which would you suggest/recommend? Thank you! Muchas gracias!

Frank..could we get directions to Tony's or the street it is on.

Will we need to take a cab there, or is it within walking distance?

Is there a post office near the port? How much are postcard stamps for mailing to the US and to the UK?
TIA

I know Frank hasn't answered in awhile. His computer was down for awhile so he must be swamped trying to do his Maztlan tours, keep up with his e mail, and take care of his family. I know all this because I just helped get someone in touch with him for a tour in March. I'm sure he'll be back real soon. Please be patient everybody. :flower:

Tonys is on the beach and it is a little far from the ship. The best way is that you go by Taxi. I would say it takes around 25 minutes and the cost about 12us per taxi, Tell them you want to go to tonys on the beach because they confuse it with Mr Tonys which is where the Golden zone starts. Tonys on the beach is between Hotel Fiesta Inn and Caravelle. There are other restaurants in the same place so look for tonys. Bon apetit!

There is sort of a post office booth by the docks. I thing a post card to the states is about $1us and to England around $1.50us. The booth opens around 10am.
