My Dryer is 11 years old. I barely use it, because I hang out clothes almost every day. About the only thing I use my dryer for is socks and underwear and sheets.

When I push on the button to start my dryer last week, I could hear it click like their was a short in the starter. Then the dryer would stop right in the middle of the cycle. I would go back in and push the start button and it would start right up again. Then I noticed the dial wasn't moving, it just stayed in the same spot.

Yesterday I went to a Maytag Dealer and he told me my motor is probably shot. The dryer runs fine, it just won't click on to start. Grrr. He told me it will cost me $50 to come out and diagnosis it. and a new motor will run me around $150 and they will take off $20 and apply it to the motor. Then he told me the price of driers have come down and it isn't even worth fixing.
OK I don't have $450 for a new dryer, not at this time of year and I don't have room in my budget to make a payment. Maybe $50 a month, but I haven't even started Christmas Shopping.

Sorry, this just sucks so bad, I've been praying over my refrigerator-10 yrs old, stove-10 yrs old and my washing machine-7 yrs old, never thinking my drying was going to die.

My b/f & his brother OWN an appliance repair company - and Jimmy is a Maytag Pro.... want me to look into this further, by checking with him?

he can diagnosis in 30 seconds flat (it's kinda sexy to watch him on the phone and see his wheels turn ....
