I love make-up!

I thought that I could make a thread for all of us to talk about make-ups that work, make-ups that didn't etc. And what you use in your everyday face routine. I am addicted to the youtube video tutorials by the way. :rotfl:

Anyways here is my skin profile:

-Some acne
-Oily

My favorite make-up is bare minerals, but it still doesn't cover or last as much as I want it to.

My everyday face routine:
-Moisturizer
-Bare Minerals foundation
-Bare Minerals mineral veil
-Mascara/eyeliner
-LIPGLOSS

I am looking for new make-up and was going to try some MAC foundations/concealers if any of you use them and want to give me tips I would love it!

Time to discuss ladies!popcorn::

I'm not sure how old you are, but I am assuming you are a teenager since this is the teen boards :) MAC has some good stuff... but foundations are not it. I would stay away from Studio Fix Fluid, Studio Sculpt and the full coverage cream foundations (they come in a round compact). If you really want to try MAC I would go for the Mineral Satinfinish, Select Tint or Select SPF 15. Those three are light to medium coverage and and easier on the skin. MAC foundations can be notorious for breaking people out. You can also try mixing the foundation with some moisturizer so thin it out some. Since your skin is oily you might want to try one of the powder foundations too...

For MAC concealors, my FAVE is the Studio Finish. It comes in the pot like the eyeshadows. It goes on smooth, blends nicely and gives just enough coverage.

If you are going to start buying MAC eye shadows, I recommend buying them in the pro pallets. You can get a pallet that holds 4 for $3.50 or one that holds 15 for $11. Then each eye shadow is $11. So if you get the pallet for 4 it comes out to about $47.50 to fill up a quad pallet but if you were to get the eye shadow in the pots I think they are $14.50 a piece? So you do save a bit.

Ok... Sorry for my rambling. Probably a lot more information than you needed, but you said MAC and MAC is my addiction. My collection is small for a MAC addict... but now that I do make up on the side I have a reason to keep on buying more!

Yes, I am 17 years old :cutie:

Thank you so much for all of the information on MAC products. I was looking at MAC Fix Fluid foundation reviews, and from what I saw from the reviews it was a "miracle in a bottle" apparently it's what the stars use. But now I am not so sure, I certainly don't want any more acne than I already have...

I know it is a heavy coverage (which is what I want) but I don't want to plug up my pores, and it seems I can't have the best of both worlds. That concealer you described got rave reviews too. Everything is way expensive (I am a Target/Wal Mart kind of girl) so that jump from 8 dollar make up to 26 dollar make up is :scared1: crazy. But if it works I am willing to dole out the cash so to speak

i don't own any makeup, but my mom wears bare minerals. she has rosacea, so that might be a good idea. its really easy on your skin and keeps your pores from getting clogged like regular makeup does.

i also use mac studio finish concealer, it's great!! :thumbsup2
my new favourite item of makeup is my kat von d palette i bought from sephora, it's brilliant! the best colours! it's mostly browns, beiges & a black, with a couple of greens too! I love it!
I also invested in a mac blending brush for my new palette (which unfortunately my cat has hidden on me somewhere.....$30 down the flippin drain!)

Honestly, those are the only higher end products i have, i usually get most of my makeup from the drug store, i use rimmel mascaras and nacara eyeliner (pencil) or rimmel liquid liner
i find Mac eyeshadows to be a HUGE waste of money! I bought that kat von d palette for $45, where as at mac the eyeshadow pots run about $8.50 each! There's 8 diff. colours in the kat von d palette, so it's MUCH cheaper and just the same quality pretty much.

for my skin i use the tea tree line from the body shop (works WONDERS! -- for me at least!) i rarely get zits anymore, and when i do i can pretty much treat them (with either the pure tea tree oil, the tea tree gel or concealer) and they're gone the next day! tea tree oil's really good for getting rid of redness
and for my lips i just use burt's bees :goodvibes

honestly, if i were you, if you don't have extra money to throw away at mac and you want higher end products look into some palettes from sephora that come with a bunch of different colours.

I'm a fan of higher end make up.

My favorites:

Lip: Clinique Air Kiss, Nars Lip Gloss, Bare Minerals Buzz Lip Balm
Eyes: Sephora Kohl eye liner, clinqie eye shadow quads, YSL mascara, Urban Decay liquid liner, Korres mascara.
Face: Clinique blush.

Honestly I don't wear that much make up everyday so it's kinda strange that I own such expensive make up.

For my skin I use Philosophy purity made simple, a tea tree toner, and juice beauty moisturizer. I exfoliate a few times a week with dark angles by Lush.

the kind of makeup that i use is darlas makeup. its vegan and animal cruelty free so i love it. its made for people who go to concerts and stuff a lot so its water proof and sweat proof so it stays on. Her makeup is also oil free, so it won't make any acne problems worse. I used to get this one makeup at target and it wasnt very good and it always smeared. I refuse to use products that are tested on animals so it was hard for me to find stuff. ive never used mac, but my mum does and it looks good, but on the labels it says nothing about animal testing, so I don't use it. Mac makeup just seems really pricey to me... Darlas makeup isn't that expensive and its really good quality. Just sayinn. :teeth:

Mac doesn't test on animals :D

I use MaryKay... I think :]
I use pencil eyeliner, I'm afraid the liquid kind will get in my eye or something... idk I'm a scardy-cat. I use regular Mary Kay mascara... oh and I have dark circles under my eyes a lot (it's not because I'm tired, it's because of the blood flow there is bad, my brothers and dad have it too) so I'm gonna have to start covering that up with foundation... oh and of course eye shadow, I forget who it's by and I'm too lazy to get up... but it's one of those kinds where it has 4 steps and it's made to brighten your eye specific eye color. So yupp, that's it :D

I use bareminerals, and I like it but it doesn't last.

I just don't know if 26 dollars on foundation alone is worth, plus risk breaking out...

That Tea Tree Line sounds pretty good, I will def. look into it!

MAC does have a GREAT return policy. If the foundation you try ends up breaking you out you can always return it within 30 days. It doesn't matter if you have used it. I have returned foundations that didn't match my skin as well as it looked in the store before. They are supposed to accept any return with out giving you a hard time unless of course you have obviously used the product up a lot. Personally, the Studio Fix Fluid broke me out and I do not have any skin problems usually, but it did look great! One bottle will last you a long time... so its $26 you won't be spending often. I don't think I have ever finished a bottle of foundation. I have about 4 or 5 different MAC ones. I kinda stopped wearing make up recently. :) I can't wake up early enough to do it.

I just started wearing makeup on the first day of school (a little more than a week ago).
I absolutely HATE makeup! But, my mom's like "Well everyone else is wearing it now! You really should wear it!". So she bought me makeup and i didn't want to hurt her feelings so i'm wearing it. I only wear eye shadow and mascara. They're both from ulta...but i don't know what brand.
The only time i wear a ton of makeup is for dance recitals and competitions and stuff because you have to.

I am also a huge fan of makeup. I am 18 and my acne was never horrible, but it was never mild by any means. At one point I had tried every treatment through two dermatologists with no results in 6 years worth of visits. I found it mortifying, because no matter what makeup I used, that acne was still there. Some days were better then others, and some makeups work better then other's depending on the skin. I have very dry skin so sometimes even with moisturizers foundation or concealer could look bad. I went on accutane about a year ago and just finished my second time on it; My face is clear and I am so very happy about that. With that said the one foundation that I found that really worked miracles was Clinique. It was light weight, it covered a lot, ( Not everything, but I don't believe anything ever does ) I topped this with a loose powder that I still use now. It has a little bit of sparkle too it and gives you a glow. The look is very natural and if you don't apply to much it wont look cakey or anything like that like many other heavier foundations and powders can end up being. As far as MAC goes, every dermatologist has told me the same thing because at one point I was wearing all MAC for concealer, powder, blush, etc. I was told that MAC's products cause people to break out further. I'm not sure why this is or what factual evidence there is to support it. What I do know is when I started to wear it I DID break out worse then I already was so I returned it right away and turned to other products such as Clinique and Bobby Brown. I still do wear MAC lip glosses though... they are to adorable to give up ;)

Anyways Makeup I have:
Face: Clinique foundation, Clinique loose powder
Eyes: Clinique mascara
Lips: Clinique Air Kiss ( Somebody else mentioned this lip gloss and it is AMAZING), Macplink lipstick, Mac Morning Glory Lip gloss, and many others
Blush: Bobby Brown Rosebud or something like that...

i dont really wear make-up that often. except for mascara. right now, im using covergirl lash exact. when i feel like wearing more, i use:
- maybelline everfresh concealer
- maybelline mineral power foundation
- maybelline expertwear eye shadow pallete in 'rock royalty'
- covergirl perfect blend eye pencil crayon in black
- sugarbaby lip gloss in 'uproar'

i dont use mostly maybelline products intentionally, but you can get factory seconds for about $5 at a store near my house

I have medium occuring acne.
I wear Mary Kay foundation. Light Ivory or something like that. I love it. It covers my face up pretty well without caking it on (It's a powder). The only downside is it kind of wears off throughout the day, like touching your face and sweating, and the elements.
I usually lasts me three months or so, and I don't know but I'm sure it's not too expensive. I used to wear eyeliner and mascara but I kind of decided to go with the less is more thing, though I look more tired.

Oh, also, this isn't make up but it is girl stuff. lol.
Sally Hansen fingernail polish is going onsale at Walgreens for 40% off. You buy three and you get $5 off coupon back. Three comes up to $5.50. So if you go in the next day and buy three more and use your $5 coupon and you pay $.50! Then you get another $5 coupon for buying those three. I'm pretty sure you can use the $5 off for the polish though I'll have to check on it. (:

for my face I use the Mary Kay Mineral Powder.
I love that stuff.
For my eyes i use the Eyelights mascara. (with the sparkles in it! :D)
that stuff is good.
Eyliner is whatever i happen to get at the store...i always make sure and get one with a smudger thing...i use those alot.
and for my eyshadow i use covergirl.
i get the white shimmery stuff and put it all the way around my eyes...it really brings out my eyecolor and it matches with everything! lol
I go for the "smokey eye" look...most of the time i'm pretty successful.

that's definitely true! i bought my studio finish concealer in december and it's still going to last me a few months!! and I use it almost daily! so it's definitely worth it if you ask me, $26 a year for a great quality concealer :thumbsup2

I am also a make-up addict :cutie: I love buying and trying new things. I ususally only buy department store brands for my everyday makeup like foundation, lipgloss, and mascara, but for things I use less, like eyeshadow and liner, I use drug store brands.

Right now my faves are:
Foundation: Lise Watier Mineral Brush ( best foundation I've ever tried, its easy to use, doesnt break me out, gives me medium coverage, and doesnt look cakey or fake )
Foundation Primer: Rimmel
Concealer: Clinique
Finishing Powder: Almay ( I think the line is called PureMinerals or something like that)
Mascara: Clinique
Lip Gloss: Estee Lauder ( all of their lipglosses smell sooo good )
Eyeshadow: I really use any brand of eyeshadow that I like the colours of. Right now I love Rimmel. They have these blended compact things, that are about the size of the bottom of a glass, that I really like. They are a cream shadow and they go on really nicely and last all day. I also like their eyefuls. The give really nice color, but dont last as long as i'd like.
Eyeliner: eyeliner for me is really trial and error. I have some that I like, but none that I love.

Blabbing over now :goodvibes
