May vs. June

We are planning to go to Disney the second week in June. We is me, my husband, and 2 kids in 6th and 3rd grade. Our school doesn’t let out until June.
We recently discussed going the first week of May instead. I’ve never been in Summer and it terrifies me (heat + crowds + masks.) I know early May will still be hot, but I’m thinking less humid and less crowded.
But I’m not sure I can bear to pull them out of school for a week (they have that Friday off, so it’s 4 days.)

Is early May better enough than early-ish June that you’d think it’s worth it? They’ve had a ROUGH YEAR obviously, and deserve a treat! But maybe missing school in 6th grade is just going too far.

we haven’t been to Disney since my daughter was 3, so this is sort of an extra special event that we cannot afford to do regularly.
May would be the better choice. Calendars show lower crowds

If you're still thinking about May, make sure your kids are okay with missing school. Mine went through a phase during middle school where they would have been freaked out over being gone. By the time they were upperclassmen in HS they were okay with missing days LOL.

Teacher here. I wouldn't worry about pulling your kids out for 4 days in May. They can make-up the missed work.

It really depends on your child and the school.

6th grade is middle school here, and although it is middle, they did treat it as a transition year with low pressure. Dd is now in 7th grade and it is a different world. Granted, 7th is THE year for big hormonal changes and figuring your place in the world, esp for girls. Also half of her 6th grade was NTI with Covid, so I really don't know if they would have become tighter with the reins had she be in person. 🤷‍♀️

Another thing to consider is how does your school handle absences now? At our school before COVID everything was assigned beforehand -- if you were going to be out, it was all on paper. Now, it is all computer. That could be an advantage ... unless they expect your child to be on google meets/zoom during school. (Ours does.) Something to check out before deciding.

FWIW, I have been in both May and June several times. Is it hot, duh ... it is Florida. But I don't recall saying OMG I can't take this heat in early June ... August, YES!! lol

Good luck with whatever decision you make. Just remember if you do pull your kid (no shame, I have done it) if you have a child who procrastinates with homework like I do, it was a struggle. Understandable though, no kid wants to do homework at Disney.

We have been to Disney in nearly every season. I have to say May is probably the best time to go. Flowers are in bloom. I believe Food and Wine Festival are going on in Epcot. I would go in May every chance I could go. We never hesitated to pull our kids from school. To be fair we never allowed them to miss much time, so taking a week off was never a problem with the school. I never really asked them, I told them.

Flower & Garden Festival goes on during May - Food & Wine is in the Fall :P

If you’re going to do this, why not get actually good weather in April? And yea, I don’t think anyone cares about a few days of school in the current circumstances.
