May Med Magic - May 15 2010 - Meet thread

I am travelling with my husband and 2 children ages 7, 9, and in Corsica would love to go to the beach. I see that Disney has an excursion to the beach but am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to do on your own? I'm afraid that we could get there, by taxi but may have a hard time getting a taxi to get back to the ship. Does anyone know?

Erin

Erin,

I'd found and bookmarked this thread on cruise critic. From what I gather in it and looking at the Google Map view, it looks very walkable, less than a mile. For reference, the cruise port is on the upper right (see cruise ship docked there) and the beach is on the lower left near the Hotel Imperial.

We are looking for others who want to share a private tour in the ports of Civitavecchia and La Specia. We have contacted Rudy's guide company which is highly recommended on TripAdvisor.:thumbsup2
I will paste the reply from my email to show the itinerary for 2 of the ports:

Dear Frank and Nancy,
Thank you for contact me.

I can provide for you for services from the port of Livorno, Civitavecchia and Naples.

I provide personally for each service and, when I'm very busy, I use my associates.
I have a good team of professional dirver and guides.

In Civitavecchia you will have me or my partner and driving one hour ,we will arrive in the centre of Rome.
On the city we will drive you to visit many different sites such as
The Palatine
the Circus max
the Colosseum
the Roman forum
the Wedding Cake
The Pantheon
The Trevi fountain
The Spanish steps
San Peter Basilica and more if we can.
The car is full licenced to drive everywere and anityme you will be beside the sites with me as your driving/guide,without walking too much.(I have a diploma in art and I'm full licenced to accompany you everywere-when the parking spot is avaible of course).
We will start the tour visiting the most ancient sites and we will end the tour visiting the most modern.
So we will tour the city concerning the time, talking about the monuments and at the end of the tour, you will know this city, its monuments, its history, its legends.
After lunch time, we will go to the Vatican museum to visit the Sistine chapel and San Peter Basilica.
Me or my partner will guide you inside without additional cost (you save 120.00-150.00 euros of the guide).
After this I will drive you back to the dock.
During the tour of Rome you will have the time for your lunch.
Rate is euros 600.00.

In Naples you will have me or my associate Roberto.
From the dock of Naples we will drive to Positano (a beautiful fisherman's town on the ocean) and you will have one hour to visit the pedastrian area.
After Positano we will drive you to visit Sorrento (a wonderful town up the sea) and you will have time to visit the town and for your shopping.
After the shopping you can have your meal on a wonderful not fancy restaurant with a beautiful view of the coast.
At this point we will drive you to Pompeii to visit the ruins of the Roman town (if you wish you can have a guide - I can reserve one for you, because only the local guide can tour the site-cost is euros 100.00 for all of you).
After we will drive you back to the dock.
Rate for this tour is euros 550.00.

All the services are in deluxe vans full air conditioned.
The vans are full licenced to drive everywere and anytime we will be beside the monuments without walking too much.
The services are 9 hours in total: from 8.00am to 5.00pm.
On the rates are not included entrance fees on the sites.
If you book all 2 ports, I will discount:

Civitavecchia dock euros 600.00
Naples dock euros 500.00

Thank you
Rudy

I think someone else from our group already has Rudy booked so we will get one of his associates. I belive the vehicles will hold 6 - 7 passengers which brings the individual cost at about 100 Euros.
Thanks,.

I found this cute little free website one of the May 26th Med cruisers set up which I think is neat. Would you ladies and gents like to have one of these for our cruise? I've already tinkered a bit with weebly and it's very easy to create these type of websites. I'd be happy to create it. They've obviously got some talented, creative graphics folks on their cruise. Any folks like that in our group? Any ideas on for a cruise theme? Just let me know what you all think. :)

Jeff, that is awesome; I say go for it! Jason is IT gifted and can help with graphics (I volunteer him as he's laying in a hospital bed recovering from surgery...all is well, and he'll be healed up for May). He will be off work for a little while and will probably want something to occupy his time. I can't figure out how to put his email in here. After this post, I should have 10 and can PM it to you....

Thanks alot, I am just trying to get my head around all the information at all the ports.

Jeff, that's a wonderful idea, and it's so nice of you to volunteer. I'd love to help, but I'm not very knowledgeable about setting up websites. I'd be willing to help, if there's something you think a neophyte could help with.

Alright then. I've started playing with it over lunch and got the framework laid out. Susan and I are driving to Chattanooga, TN this afternoon to run in a half marathon Saturday morning but I'll put some time into the site this weekend and have it up by Monday.

Anyone got any ideas about a catch phrase for our cruise or do we want to stick with "May Med Magic - May 15 2010", our thread title? I'm strictly a left-brained aerospace engineer so creativity isn't one of my strong suits. :)

Sayhello and others: If, in doing your research for the cruise, you've found links to things that you think would be helpful to others, send them along to me and I'll include them on the "Links" page of the site. Also, any ideas of things to put on the site would be welcomed. :cool1:

If anyone knows of someone military who would like to take the cruise, there are now MTO discounts available for cats 4-11.

For a catchy phrase, how about " May The Med Be Magic "? OK, I'm mostly left brained too.

Jeff,

I say go for it also! That is really cool. If I could help with anything I would, just don't know what I could do. Good luck with your marathon.

Donna:)

That's funny! :lmao:

I didn't even notice the thumbs down in the subject line until you mentioned it. Not a problem momo. :thumbsup2

Oh no... I graduated from Tennessee and live in Johnson City. Way too much crimson in these posts so I thought I would plug the orange! Think of it this way, at least we don't have Kiffin.

Jeff can you or anyone recommend any tour companies that will be able to arrange excursions in all of the ports? Thanks

Limoinrome.com can do all 3 ports in Italy. Claudio is who we have been communicating with--we are using him all 3 days.
