May Med Magic - May 15 2010 - Meet thread

Moneyhappy - we also were originally booked on the Highlights of Monaco and Monte Carlo excursion with DCL. We decided to do this port on our own just a few weeks ago and after contacting several tour companies, all were already full for our group of 7. I've been doing a lot of research on the cruisecritic website and have figured out (at least I think I have!!) the local transportation and it seems pretty straightforward as long as you have a plan in place. We are going to visit Monaco first and see the casino, Cathedral, palace, etc and then take a bus to Eze. Here's our plan:

•Villefranche-sur-mer to Monaco-Monte Carlo train is approx 2.50€. 10 minutes. 9:01, 9:24, 9:30, 10:01
•After visiting Monaco and Monte Carlo, take Bus 112 to Eze Village 11:25, 1:20, 3:15. Cost is approximately 1€. 20 minutes.
oBus 112 does not run often – check schedules and plan accordingly.
o112 bus stop is across the park from the Casino on Rue des Iris St. between the Casino Gardens and Blvd. Princesse Charlotte. Departs from place de la Crémaillière, one block above the main Tourist Info and casino park. Walk up Rue Iris with Barclays Bank to your left, curve right, and find the bus shelter across the street by the Costa à la Crémaillière café.
•After visiting Eze, Take Bus 83 down to Eze bord de Mer
•Take Bus 100 from Eze bord de Mer to Villefranche (l’Octroi stop)

Ok, tablemates and anyone else who might see me at dinner, I have a question for you. Do you think it would be bad if I didn't pack a skirt to wear at dinner for any of the semi-formal/formal nights. Im thinking of only bringing a pair of nice black pants with a few nice blouses. I really have to cut down on what I'm bringing because of my European tour afterwards. So do you think I would be ok?

I am sure you will be fine.
I like wearing dresses and skirts and love dressing for Dinner. We have had to pay for extra luggage, to compensate for this.

Got a call from DCL yesterday. This sounds weird, but they have asked us to reschedule our Palo dinner when we get onboard. Our reservation was at 8:30 on the last night (which was the only slot available at the time). Their reason is that due to labor restrictions with the Barcelona port, the latest seating at Palo on that night is 7:00. But if that is truly the reason, how are they able to do the late seating dinners? Confusing, to be sure. I was so looking forward to not having to do the mad rush to Rockin Bar D upon embarkation. Oh well, it's not a huge deal if we get bumped. It's not like we'll starve!

I sent them an e-mail in French to ask if they will be open the 23th May. I will keep you in touch if I receive a confirmation.

Note as there is also an adventure parc in Vizzavona (see my post of yesterday):

But in May, it is only open on reservation (for a group of minimum of 8)

Thanks so much for sending an e-mail. It appears there are at least 3 adventure parks on Corsica and I wonder if they are all operating. We had consdered the train but they appear to be to infrequent which is why we went the car route. We are willing to go to either park if we find 8 people and can make a reservation. I think the park in Vero also had a group discount if we had 10 people I think. Saved a euro or 2 per person.

I just checked for me. System showed dinner and high tea available on the first sea day for parties of 1-2. Doesn't help me as I have reservations those days and want to move them to later days.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jeff. I checked and it was already gone. The DCL rep did say someone would be waiting for us at the reservation area, so maybe we won't have to waste an hour in line to fix DCL's mistake. I want to be in vacation mode as soon as I get onboard. Lines are anti-vacation mode for me.

Is it possible or likely that we will be able to book a Palo brunch once we get onboard? I haven't seen an open spot since I first logged into the DCL website.

Certainly possible. The earlier you check in the more likely it will be. At a minimum, ask to be put on their wait list. The Palo reservation desk will be in Rock'n Bar D from 1 pm to 3:30 pm.

Yes, it is a quirk of the system. It seems to show the time(s) you already have reservations for as "available". The person who got the brunch on the other Meet thread the other day did so right when their private group brunches got approved. So I'm assuming that someone in the group had an individual reservation that got released. Same as when Jedijill's reservation was released.

I think it will be absolutely fine for you to wear trousers, what ever is convenient and makes you feel comfortable, I guess the saying “whatever floats your boat” is apt LOL

Welcome, kikina9! Malta, eh? So one of our ports will be kind of boring for you!

The abbreviations are kind of hard to get used to. Just ask. *Someone* will know the answer!
