and I missed it because I am a relative newbie on this site, so pardon me if this has already been discussed in a previous thread.
I noticed our trip next summer is full so I called to ask the ages of the other children in our group to see if there are some close in age to my children. The ABD rep gave me the info and then I asked how many people total in the group. She said 20. I was a little confused because many of the trips have higher numbers. She said there was a limit on the number of rooms available for our trip so that is why the number is so low. So if I want to switch for whatever reason, I would move into a group of 44 max (same number of guides).
I know people may prefer a larger group. There are certainly pluses and minuses to both. But if anyone wants a smaller group, it seems like one should/can ask at the time of booking if any of the dates have a smaller limit. I didn't know that at the time of my booking.

That's very interesting. I've never been told that (although I tend to book shoulder season Adults Only, so that may be the reason!) I'm curious. You say "I noticed our trip next summer is full". How did you know or see this? Did the trip disappear from the website? Were you told that by ABD?

Because it says "Now Accepting Waitlist" on the ABD webpage for the date of our trip.
I actually would prefer to be in a bigger group. There are only 3 other children in our group, though they are all the same age, which is nice. I was hoping for more children for my kids' sake but also appreciate the smaller guest:guide ratio. The ABD rep said everything stays the same on these trips (i.e. same buses, etc) only that they are limited to the number of available rooms (I guess at one or more of the hotels) so had to decrease the size of the group.
I mention because if people would like that smaller ratio, they should ask when booking if any of the dates have that smaller limit. I am sure it doesn't apply to all the trips, but for 6/8/14 of Italy Classic, it does.

I thought something was strange, I booked the Italy trip last week, the May Adult Only trip and now the website shows call for details/waitlist. The only thing I can think of is they switched the Rome Hotel, maybe they couldn''t guarantee rooms for those days.

ABD often has a set number of rooms and depending on the make up of the parties traveling....this can limit the number of guests.

I've often heard that there are 28 people traveling but no more rooms.

That makes sense, Kevin. If there are a lot of singles, or couples with no kids, or a grandparent in a second room, etc, you'd have less people in the same number of rooms. I imagine this would be particularly true of an Adults Only trip.
