May Exercise Challenge- 38,344 minutes!!!

63 minutes of running today (5 mies)

Total for the month: 423/1600 - past the 25% mark!

255/1200 did another 20 on the elliptical. Got until at least Friday to use my elliptical! Which is a good thing since it's going to rain most of the week.

On Saturday I may count half of my time giving massages as exercise since I'm giving 4 that day and won't have any time the rest of the day to exercise!

Man, I am loving this challenge, it is really pushing me ::yes::

This morning I did 40 minutes walk/jog, and this evening I just walked 30 minutes at sons track practice. Total of 70 minutes!!

252/1100

 Lynda

300/1200 another 45 minutes on the elliptical this morning. Hoping to do another 50 this evening.

Shopping for more cruise wear today and picking up another necessities!

TTFN :tigger:

LuLu - Thanks for posting that. It's what I was going to suggest, as well, since I have a narrow heel. Lacing it like that "locks" your foot back against the heel of the shoe so that it doesn't move. I can't do any distance without lacing my running shoes like that.

Yes, thanks for posting the pictures! I am gonna have to try my lacing like that to see if it helps me as well!

I loved the Everest Challenge and had a GREAT time. Definately hot that night - not like the Family Fiesta 5K in January - LOL!!!

I have a narrow heel. A woman at the running store showed me how to lace them to tighten up the heel a bit. Maybe that will help.

Thank you to both of you! I've laced up the pro-fitted New Balance as shown, and I'll try those again on the treadmill today. Hopefully this will do the trick.

Thanks again. :flower:

Let us know how it goes. :)

5/5 80 minutes running
5/8 40 minutes running

That brings me to 120/1200.

Luckily I have a 14 mile run and a half marathon this month so those minutes will be climbing rapidly. But running alone won't get me to my number. This challenge is a good way to make sure I am more balanced in my exercise. :goodvibes

Hi Dahly! :wave2: Nice to see you!

Thanks to the folks posting about the shoe tying! :flower3:

Great job, everyone! I think I have you all updated through this post.

--------------------------
I worked out for the first time this morning with my new personal trainer ("K."). I did 15 minutes on the elliptical to warm up beforehand. Then he and I did 45 minutes of quickly moving through squats (with a bench behind me), lunges (interesting that my balance is so bad now with the disparity of strength between my left and right knees), many machines, and lastly, 5 minutes on the rowing machine, for a total of 60 more minutes bringing me to 555.

More detail, in case you're interested (warning -- very long!)

About K., since I'll probably be posting here about those workouts which will be 2x/week starting next week-- For those of you who haven't heard me lamenting on Facebook today, let me just say that I can already tell this is going to be a love/hate relationship.

He didn't just park me at a weight bench and have me doing all free weights. He took me seriously when I said I was intimidated in that section of the gym because of my vision impairment (since I don't have depth perception and have a delayed visual vocabulary, I have a hard time finding my way around there and I am easily startled by movement around me since it can seem as if someone or something is going to hit me). He had me use a bench there to do the squats and then we moved to an area where I could hold on while doing lunges (until we are certain my knee will hold up) and to several machines that I'll be able to do on my own.

He was very specific about the settings on the machines and which ones I shouldn't use either because I am too short to use it without potential injury or because my knee isn't strong enough yet. I was really impressed with this.

When he said he's not crazy in general about the cardio machines and me spending a lot of time on them every single workout, I mentioned that I'd love to try the rowing machine. He was thrilled that I wanted to try something new and which he views as a great workout. Again, my vision impairment is a problem, though, because I can't see the screen. So, he showed me a smartphone ap that will time my intervals and use audible commands to tell me when to push hard and when to pause for a break. I've already downloaded it. It's great!

So, that's my "race report" if you will on my first PT session. I am feeling really optimistic about this being the shakeup to my routine that I really need. I haven't done any strength training of consequence since May 2010 right before the reconstruction on my knee. I can't wait to see how I feel in a month or two, strength and conditioning-wise.

[Thanks for letting me blab on and on about that. I'm just really excited about this opportunity! ].

5/8 - 30 minutes WATP and 33 minutes on Wii Fit/Active.

283/875

I am determined to get back out on the bike tonight. I ordered a new bike saddle from Amazon that should get here next week. Hoping that will help make a difference with the sore bum!

It does sound like you found a good trainer - he sounds very interested in working with AND for you!

05/09 - 10 minutes kettlebell, 35 minutes treadmill :cool1:

May Total: 235/600

The re-lacing of the shoes did it! ::yes:: Left foot feels great, and no more slipping up and down with either of them. :woohoo:

Thanks again ... I just knew someone here would have the answer :worship:

Hey Cam, sounds like you've got a good trainer and motivator! I'd like to hear more about your thoughts on a PT and how well it works for you.

I was having a seriously hard time getting motivated today, I just feel weak for no good reason! I kicked my own butt and did the 30DS (day 8!) and I found it really really hard. Did it anyway so I'm proud of myself. Once upon a time I would have said "Oh I can take a rest today".

I am hoping to do some more yoga this evening, I would like to make it part of my daily routine. Being so short and overweight and out of shape, I find I can't reach and stretch anything near like what I used to.

New total:

440/1400

Cam, I agree, it sounds like you have found a good trainer and you are on your way to reaching your goals with him!

I walked 4 miles outside, it's such a beautiful day! I was slower than I wanted to be, I was so sore from yesterday's zealous workout. :)

5/9 70 minutes

New total: 444/1200

30 minutes today. C25K W2D2.
Today's workout was the best yet. On Monday I kept checking the timer to see how much longer there was to go during the jogs. Today I only checked once. lol Everyday I find myself looking forward to the next workout. I know I need to follow the C25K plan but I really cant wait for next week and the longer jogs.

325/1000 so far!!

Hi Lisa! thanks for the wave!

today i am tired! did 30 minutes WATP and a 27 minute 4.7mile bike ride.

brings me to 340/875.

was going to be in bed by 10 tonight, but the Astros tied up the game in the bottom of the 9th..so on to extra innings...yes, it is early in the season, but every game counts according to DH! so here I sit, instead of getting off the couch....:lmao:

426/1700
Mostly running, walking and yardwork.

Dahly--I'm glad you're getting a new seat. DH is a pretty serious biker (used to race before we had kids!) and he has a fancy stationary bike in the garage. He is frequently buying new saddles. He also has to be careful of the shorts he gets at the bike store. Too often the seams rub wrong and then saddle sores result (but mostly it's just because he's been out there too long!). Bag balm is his friend.

Going to be hard to get my minutes like I want since I took a long term sub job. Hopefully the fella's injury heals fairly quickly. Between work and baseball games it's hard to squeeze in minutes. Plus I promised DH things would still run smoothly with me working full time. That means I can't whine!!! :rotfl:

Keep moving, everybody!

Good morning, everyone! Look at all those beautiful, sweaty minutes we're posting! It's funny that I love equally the posts by people who love their workouts and can't wait to do them and the posts by people who don't want to exercise but are doing it because of this challenge. ;)

Either way, every single minute counts, and if this challenge is a motivator, then that is awesome! Just keep moving!!! Today is only May 10! Many more days of movement ahead!

-----------
I was pretty wiped out last night after getting up so early for my workout, but I really didn't want to miss my deep water aerobics class last night, so I changed into workout clothes at work (so I wouldn't change my mind once I got in the car) and went to the Y. I did 20 minutes on the rower (but counted 15 due to intervals and fiddling with my phone), then 15 on the bike, and 65 in the water. That was another 95 (on top of 60 earlier in the day), bringing me to 650.
