Hi. I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place but my husband has received a job offer in Sayre, Oklahoma. We are considering a move from Tennessee. I was just wondering if anyone may be from around that area? I know nothing about Oklahoma:confused3 . If anyone can tell me any info I would appreciate it!!!

My grandmother lived in Clinton, OK, which is about 30 miles east of Sayre. It is a pretty small town. The area economy is mostly agriculture and natural gas.

A lot of the old towns on I-40/old Route 66 really do or at least did look a lot like Radiator Springs from the Cars movie. It has a main drag and then several offset streets.

The terrain there is rather flat, with mostly grasslands. So, if you are used to trees, you won't see many that aren't planted by people. If you come from a big town or even a medium sized town, I would imagine that it may take a little bit to get used to it. Most people will have known others most of their lives. People are very helpful, but it is also somewhat difficult to keep a secret.

It is typical small-town, mostly rural America. There's probably one high school.

You would be right in the middle between Amarillo and Oklahoma City on I-40. It's about 2 hours to either one of them.

Thanks for the info. We are from a very small town so we may feel right at home. I'm a stay at home mom of a 3 and 4 yr old. I love quaint little small towns, so this may be right up my alley. We have had to spend all weekend just waiting and wondering. My husband is looking to make a total career change from IT to corrections. He was in corrections for the first few years we were married until he moved over to IT thinking it would make more money. He has since decided that corrections is truly what he loves (guess someone has to love it). His goal is to become a warden. He got a call from a facility in Sayre where he did a phone interview last week for a pretty good position. They called Friday and he wasn't home and the lady was getting ready to go home and she said she wanted to make him an offer and she would talk to him Monday. So we know he got the job we just don't know if the pay will be enough to warrant moving 9 hrs away.

Sorry I rambled so much, sometimes I get started and can't stop. :hippie:

I've lived in OK all my life but I've never heard of Sayre. I'm in the suburbs of Tulsa.

I moved from Chicago to a small town in Oklahoma called CLarita. That was a culture shock. Either way I have been here now for 9 years and love it! It is a great state to raise a family and there are plenty of things to do. I now live in Ada, OK and it is beautiful. I wouldn't say Oklahoma is flat...our town is very hilly and trees everywhere. I haven't been to Sayre so I couldn't tell you how that is. I am glad I made the move.

We lived in Oklahoma for 2 years when we were stationed at Tinker in Oklahoma City. It was a nice place to live. Not much winter to speak of, more ice than snow, the summers were HOT and they can have some wicked storms. The cost of living was affordable. I agree with previous posters - a great place to raise a family.
