Hey folks! Just wanted to drop in and say hi. I recently booked the family on this embarkment and have found the thread (and other forums) to be helpful as this will be our inaugural Disney Cruise. My Wife and I have a RCL cruise under our belts and brought our son along on a Carnival cruise about a year and a half ago. This though will be my soon-to-be 4 year old daughter's first trip so she's especially looking forward to meeting as mny princesses as possible.
I already started one thread regarding car service vs. bus to the port so any additional insight here would be helpful but my main concern here is coffee. Well, more like my wife's concern really. She's a bit of coffee junkie and has a low tolerance for sub-par joe. I have seen a few comments earlier but wanted to see if she should consider bringing her own. I'm sure it needs to be instant so any recommendations there would be good too.
Thanks!

Add me to the in pain/broken group. I came on this thread to catch up, while in tears. I went speed walking with my neighbors and I am in so much pain now. It was kind of funny to come on hear and see how many of you were also having a rough physical day... NOT that you were in pain, but yikes... we are a sad bunch tonight! I had foot surgery last Jan that went very bad. I caught a severe infection. Went in for a minor surgery and never thought I'd end up in the hospital asking if I was going to loose my foot. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks, and came home on a pic for 5 wks. Had to postpone a cruise we had planned for our 10yr and missed 4months of work. I had SO much pain still, and my last MRI said I still have an infection in my foot. Just stinks. Thursday I am going to a new orthopedic in the city. Im really praying that he has some ideas on how to make my foot better. Ok thats my sob story for the night. Back to dreaming of Disney![]()
Psssst....don't mention about the big approval over there. It's on the down-low for now until we get solid options worked out to put to the vote.
Awwww...I understand. We have another chick whose 1st bundle will be just over 1 at sailing and a few others who hope to have new additions by then. A few others aren't 100% which is okay. How do you predict where you'll be 18 months out? One of my roomies has a military hubby also. She isn't at all sure but I told her I'd hold her spot until 6 months at least & hope for the best. If we have to swap her out for another person last minute I don't think it'd be hard to fill her spot. Just think, I can't have anything come up to keep me from going because it'd mess up everyone in the 3 rooms I have booked with the onboard booking savings. Eek!!!
Even though they didn't make it to the beach it sounds like they had a great time without paying for a Disney Excursion, and that's a great review for me. We are going to cancel the Beach Day and just go it alone to Cable Beach.
I have another question for everyone that may be a silly question, but I'm assuming everyone takes cash in Nassau. I thought I read somewhere that some place don't take cash and to bring your credit card only. Also, when we get off the boat in Nassau should we take our passports? I wasn't planing on it, maybe just a copy if anything.
Good Morning fellow cruisers, it is that time of the week again!!We now have only

Ok, so on a totally different note....
I'm reading the thread about what to do/not to do on a DCL and the last post the poster put her kids didn't enjoy the AP show and Crush b/c they don't watch TV and had no clue who crush was....OMG??!!! REALLY??? WHAT'S THE POINT OF A DISNEY CRUISE IF YOUR KIDS HAVE NO IDEA OF WHO THE CHARACTERS ARE????
Ok, just had to get that off my chest and didn't want to post in her thread... plus I knew you guys would understand!
Anyway, I hope EVERYONE is feeling better. I know I am today. Green tea helps a TON!

Isn't it great that you can come here and speak your mind.![]()
Well thank you! I only started the ball rolling because it was always something casually discussed but nobody ever established when. I pushed the when part and the ball rolls from there. I have my moments with the boys when I'm like "I need to get away - NOW" and then I have my escape cruise to look forward to. That's awesome that a couple of you hung in there for your getaway cruise. That rocks!![]()

The DCL Facebook page shows two ships passing each other near Castaway Cay. Do you think we'll get to see another ship while we're on board? I keep reading about "horn battles". That would be so cool!![]()
It was my understanding that guest services will get your passports stamped for you![]()
WHAT'S THE POINT OF A DISNEY CRUISE IF YOUR KIDS HAVE NO IDEA OF WHO THE CHARACTERS ARE????
I hope hope hope that the Cove does open earlier! I was getting the noon timeframe from the DCL website, but I know that restaurants can vary.
As for passports, I'd have to find the link again, but because we are getting on and off at the same port (Port Canaveral) it is a 'closed loop' cruise and passports are not required. The question has been asked several times in the main forum. I'll go see if I can hunt down the post that included a link to an official site.
ETA: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2814955&highlight=passport This has a bunch of thoughts on what to do with passports while at the port. But not the official link on closed loops I was looking for.
Here's an article:
http://www.rushmypassport.com/blog/...-getting-a-passport-for-a-closed-loop-cruise/
This thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=19757232 has comments from someone who JUST went to Nassau and all they needed was the equivalent of a KTTW card and a photo ID. Still, most places say you need a photo ID and an original birth certificate just in case. All I know is, we'll have ours!
Now that you bring up the thyroid thing...we've had a little bit of a scare going on with Chandler right now. He's got some nodules on both sides of his thyroid. Function is just fine. We don't know what the nodules are. He's had an ultrasound & blood work. We went to the endocrinologist last week for the first time. I think we expected too much of that visit. We were hoping to go in there and have him say, "The nodules are fill-in-the-blank " and then we'd know if we should worry or what the deal is. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. He rules out a lot of things with all the questioning and from blood work. Now it's just a wait and see deal. We go back in 6 weeks for him to feel the thyroid again and pull another blood sample to check function. We do another ultrasound in 3-6 months to look for any change. Doing a biopsy this early isn't the best thing to do because even if it was a malignancy you aren't guaranteed to get that result from a biopsy so soon. For a kid who's that terrified of needles (he nearly passed out from having his blood drawn last week) inserting one into his neck isn't exactly the best course of action just yet. At first we were ready to run him to Houston to another doctor to look for more definitive answers. My mother-in-law gave us quite a bit of a perspective check when we talked to her about it all. She reminded us of the journey they took with my father-in-law's prostate cancer a few years back. Even when his blood work pointed to an elevated PSA it took 4 biopsies over the course of a year before one came back with an abnormality confirming the cancer. The doctor isn't wrong in his recommendations yet. Still, we may go on over to Houston and get him established there once we know for sure where we'll be living over that way. Just the uncertainty....

Wow. After reading everyone's entries today, it looks like you all could use a nice vacationSeriously, though... So sorry to hear about Chandler's mysterious nodules (so sorry Kelly - I can't imagine the worry) and everyone's struggles with thyroid and auto-immune problems. I hope everyone gets to feeling well for our Magical cruise
I had chronic fatigue for years, so I understand about being tired all the time. I started seeing a naturopath a couple of years ago and am happy to say I feel great most of the time now. I also lost 30 pounds without trying that hard (and zero exercise!). I don't see her anymore, but still take some of her supplements. I just love that woman. And if you knew me at all, you'd know how out-of-family that is for me - to love a naturopath. I'm one of the most conservative people I know. But when you feel that bad for so long, you get desperate (especially when doctor after doctor tells you you're fine!). Sending my best to all of you!
Ginseng extract & ginger tea top the natural energy supplement list and they have zero negative side effects.
The unknown IS the worst and am sorry you have to wait and wonder. The only thing I would say is live 1 day at a time and try not to think the worst as that can be the most damaging of all. You can only control what you can control. Hang in there!!![]()
Have you ever heard of a product called David Pal by Mind Alive? http://www.mindalive.com/Products_DAVID_PAL.htm I was never into all the naturalist/hoslitic mumbo jumbo until I was introduced to this product and for someone who's suffered from insomnia, depression and fibromyalgia all my life, this was a life-saver.
Ok, I'll stop with the dispensation of my prescriptions now.![]()
I think we all need a group hug. Ready.... 1, 2, 3
Let's all think positive thoughts for everyone especially Chandler! Kids are only suppose to get scraps and bruises that we can make better, that's it! One of my favorite shows is Mystery Diagnosis, and it always amazes me how the human spirit carries those people through their ordeal until they finally get the diagnosis.
I'm so excited for our first cruise that it makes me want to shout! Thanks for introducing me to the Port Canaveral webcam, now I'm totally addicted. Just watching those palm tress swaying in the breeze is driving me crazy with envy! I was somewhat productive today, I cleaned up the dining room just in time for Easter. Maybe I should clarify that I moved the craft supplies to another room, so is that really cleaning up?

My friend posted a pic of the Dream & Fantasy together. She said it was a historical moment because they wouldnt be seen together. Such a cool pic!The DCL Facebook page shows two ships passing each other near Castaway Cay. Do you think we'll get to see another ship while we're on board? I keep reading about "horn battles". Oh I would LOVE to see Fantasy! My friends will actually be on their when we cruise. Really tho any of the ships would be fun to see!So, let's see...our itinerary compared to a few other cruises...
We may be able to see the Dream at night on May 9th as we head out and she is heading back to Port Canaveral. There is also a very slight chance we could see her heading into out of Nassau as we head in, although doubtful as we will be coming from the west and she will be heading north.
There is also a possibility we could see the Fantasy as we head towards Nassau and she heads towards Castaway Cay, but again doubtful as we will be west and she will be further east. The best chance at seeing the Fantasy is heading to Castaway Cay while she is on her way from Port Canaveral to Grand Cayman during a sea day.
Hopefully if passings do happen, they will be announced!
Ok, that was just driving me crazy! So I just pulled the Navigators from our November 2010 cruise on the Magic, and Cove Cafe was open 7 a.m. to Midnight.
We dont have passports either. Not needed. We are cleared in the islands thru the ship, so no you dont need to carry your birth cert to get on and off the shipWE are traveling without passports (please no flames), my dd and I are getting off in Nassau for the dolphin excursion. Will I need to take our birth certificates with us to get back on the ship?
